Bournemouth V Plymouth

Recommended Posts

Saw the new look Devils at Weymouth last night but didn't see much improvement - no balance in the side. Even heavier top end and even lighter bottom end. So with the Buccs finding a bit of form of late after the arrival of James Brundle it looks like a home win but with some potentially good action in store with the Devils heat leaders. I'm going to try and get over and will be interesting to see if the crowd is any bigger now the school holidays have started and no Pirates this week. Guess both sides will be as they were last night but you might know different.

Just got back. Best crowd I have seen at a Buccs meeting this season. Not a great meeting to be honest. A couple of decent races but nothing to get the crowd going. Track became dusty after heat 9 and was very slick.

Thought Brundle was excellent and a class above NL to be honest. Should certainly be riding PL.

Three wins on the bounce for the Buccs but is it too little too late?

The riders can only ride as well as the track will allow. Until the track is prepared in a way to give good racing it is bound to be a not particularly good meeting. Trouble is that the track has been the same :( on each of the four occasions I've visited in the past two seasons.

And another thing - where on earth did that (very expensive at £2.50 and not worth the money) programme come from? Plymouth have never ever fielded the team published on the scorecard. Having made five (yes - five) amendments to the running order, there was just one heat where we were not writing different name in each of the heats. Then a league table valid as of June 4th? The promotion are having a laugh at my expense I think. I expect that Kings Lynn would have done rather better and they are not even an EL track, I hear.

"Shovlar in Buccs meeting no good! Shock! Horror! Probe!" Least surprising headline of this (or last...) year!!!

Come on Richard, slagging off the prog.: you KNOW I'm gonna respond to THAT!!

Sure this prog. was published to cover both the second leg KOC match vs. KL (on 8/7) AND tonight's meeting and that IS a new departure for the Buccs; but we won the NL prog of the year last year and with seven pages of Buccs/NL specific material plus colour action photos of Buccs' action on a further two pages and then of course there being four pages (as covering two matches) of race-card, I really can't see that the prog. is as bad as you say.

True, it's always gonna be tricky to second-guess an opposition team line-up when a prog. is printed so far in advance and THAT was a down-side: Plymouth have, though, made rather more changes than is common since the start of the month and one must assume that the line-up printed WAS as suggested by the Devils' management when this went to print...

Well,Im with Aincent Mariner on both the state of the track and programme.

I thought it was discgraceful charging full price for a programme first used on 8th July for the visit of Kings Lynn.I had been assured that a new race card insert was going to be issued. If that had been the case,it wouldnt have been so bad.Total rip off in my opinion.Of the teams printed, the riding order is totally wrong anyway, aside from the current team changes. One of the Plymouth reserves has a higher average than the rider at No.2(I havent got the prog in front of me so cant name the names)

Im fed up with trying to defend the undefendable.Matt Ford has absolutely no interest in the Buccs.Last night showed him up for what he is.The track was poor, yet again. Its never that bad for the Elite team. The programme rip off.No track shop! Why?...because hes supposedly on holiday. If its open, you make some money,if its closed, you cant make anything.

Aaron Baseby has got a real attitude problem. There hasnt been a meeting at Bmth this season when he hasnt remonstrated with an opposition rider at some point.Last night he claimed that Simmonds had cut him up in Ht4,(I found out later)What utter claptrap. He was simply out manouvred by a far superior rider. Then for Mark Baseby to get involved in something he didnt know anything about(he was too far out in front)is plain stupid. It was only finger wagging and shouting till he arrived.Grow up Aaron. To have you as Captain is a joke, surely?

The meeting itself wasnt a classic by any means.Comfortable win for the Buccs.Jaimie Pickard worked hard for little reward for the Devils.Surprised by the form of Seemond Stephens, one ride apart,he rode very well.Good to meet up with my many friends from Plymouth. They are a good bunch of people. Thanks for yor company.

Hmm, but surely another way of looking at this is that for those who went to the KL KOC match three weeks earlier and bought a prog. they already had the copy needed and so didn't need to buy another one. Meaning for Buccs' regulars the cost of the progs for the two meetings was £1.25 each NOT £5.00!! Why would anyone with the prog. for 8/7 be buying another one yesterday!?

For Plymouth fans and for others who attended yesterday but not on 8/7, there was a prog. to buy which contained more NL-specific info. than the majority of progs in this division.

There may have been one I've not seen but from my experience there, Rye House haven't - for example - printed an away team profile for a third division visitor for years!!

I agree that it would've been better to produce a race card insert to slip into last night's issue... I'll bring that up with Nigel.

Pity that one of the Bucs biggest crowds of the season should witness one of the least exciting meetings. Thats the way it goes I suppose. Stephens and Simmons rode well for a generally disappointing Plymouth team (very much too top heavy). Also Jamie Pickard battled for every point.

As for the programme you lot at least had one. I bought one at the Kings Lynn meeting then let Wessexboy borrow it provided he brought it to last nights meeting. He made sure he put it in the glove compartment of his van but when I asked him for it in the car park he said "Oh, sorry I have brought the other van tonight!!"

To Bob:

Many thanks for your unsolicited and unenexpected support. Much appreciated :approve:

To Derek:

My criticms of the programme were very specific and I'm disappointed if you consider them to be a criticism of you/your compilation. It is all to do with the presentation and nothng to do with the compilation. I see no reason for us to argue or fall out on this. However, if you insist ...

To Various Other Contributors To This Thread As Applicable: My particular 'beef' is that as an away supporter I pay my entry fee, I buy my programme, I go to my selected position around the track and I only then open the programme. Imagine if you will the reaction of the programme seller were I to insist on reading the programme prior to purchase. As an away supporter I'm hardly in a position to use my programme twice, am I? A home supporter can buy a programme for 2 meetings at £2.50 = £1.25 per meeting. As an away supporter I buy one of these programmes for 1 meeting at £2.50. Why should I pay twice as much? Were you to visit Plymouth and pay £4 for a programme I would expect you to be outraged and I would support you absolutely.

I am increasingly of the opinion that the Bournemouth promotion fails to provide me with a product that I can reasonably expect, given the fee charged. I am seriously beginning to question whether I will ever again bother to visit Wimborne Road again.

Fair enuff - and of course we shan't fall out over this!!

The ironic thing is I was MEANT to be going to the KL meeting (but a bloody work commitment prevented me at the last minute.. ) and was already planning if I did, to get you a prog. (knowing as I did, obviously, that the 'double edition' was planned to include the Devils meeting three weeks' later!) and post it to you!!

This was coz I still felt guilty that LAST season when a not-dissimilar thing happened, using a Poole prog. from the night before, these sold out (the visitors had been Swindon) and so Devils fans that meeting couldn't buy a prog. at all! And my 'perfectly crafted' words in that prog. on their club were never read by anyone from Plymouth!!!

So I do accept that things have been a tad unfair on Plymouth fans visiting Wimborne Rd. on a couple of occasions now. Which I apologise for...

To all you constant snipers about Bournemouth and its promotion,I think you will find Matt has been ground down by the moaners and I can see this will be the last season of NDL at Poole so Ancient Mariner you won't have to visit Wimborne Road again.

For all us NDL fans in Poole it will be a shame as I personally have enjoyed this level of speedway.

I apologise if I have come across as a constant sniper and/or a moaner (Mrs Ancient Mariner will probably agree with you though!). Like you I feel that NL is very much underrated and unloved. You may rest assured though that I have not specially selected the Buccs for criticism, however I stand by my comments. If Plymouth were to treat you as a visiting supporter in the same manner, you may rest assured that I would be just as quick to criticise them too.

I hope that I have reason to visit Wimborne Road in the future - perhaps when the Devils are in the EL? ;)

That's just pain daft...

He has had far more criticism from fans and managements in the EL - remembering last year's problems etc... Though he did threaten to go PL about this time last year. Whenever he's not getting his own way he threatens all manner of things. It's more likely he's sulking because Bournemouth are not top of the NDL... but there's no lower league for him to threaten to move too.

I do wish Matt would grow up...
