Whose Idea Was It To Use Kings Lynn ?!?

Recommended Posts

Great meeting, best I've seen for a good while, the track was fair, no advantage to the Australians, in fact if anything it favoured the GB riders. Either way I can't agree that it was the wrong venue.

Not seen a meeting from KL for years, saw some great ones in the 70s though, Bank Holiday monday fixtures against Belle Vue, morning starts I seem to recall.

Just goes to show that this thread was a complete load of ballcocks icon_lol.gif

Rob Lyon looks the part as Team Manager and we actually had a venue and track which served up a fantastic night of entertainment and a team which did us proud, happy days icon_smile_approve.gif

Still stick to what I said when starting this thread. We were very lucky to make it through and if it had been held at Monmore we would have had an easier ride.

Pleased we made the final Good effort this time from Team GB. But what would have been said if we had lost by point? I wasn't very far off with my thoughts.

Totally agree, Some great racing and passing with a more than a pleasant final result. :approve:

Saturday of course is a different matter, but we were the best tonight, well done. :D

And I am glad I was wrong with GB pipping the Aussies. icon_smile_approve.gif

But it doesn't take it away from the fact that IMO we should have used an EL track like Monmore, Coventry or Poole.

I don't think we should. If the facilities and track are among the best in the country then I don't care who rides there week in and week out nor at which level. If all Speedway stadia had the facilities and racing that were on offer tonight then I believe Speedway in this country would be a lot healthier than it is now.

I liked the fact that the venue was pretty much neutral for everyone as I think it made the meeting closer and thus more exciting which means that there were two winners tonight, Team GB and, more importantly, Speedway.

I really cant understand whats wrong with Kings Lynn, tonight was fantastic and great advert for the sport. Yet here we are again where there seems to be a Premier/Elite thing going with this forum again. If it wasnt good enough then why did the FIM choose it, the likes of Poole and Coventry had had the big meetings in the past so why not let Kings Lynn have their turn. They did a great job and Im astonished at why people are moaning. GET A GRIP!!!!

There's no denying that Monmore is a super track Steve, but it just doesn't have the facilities for a meeting like tonight..A crowd of that size , needs more than home straight viewing and more than two ladies toilets, it's bad enough on a normal race night!

You missed out Peterborough, one of the best tracks and one of my favourite tracks to visit :approve:

I missed out Peterborrough because there would have been little point in turning up tonight as the Aussies would definately have romped it. ( at Poole as well)

We got away with it tonight because neither Crump or Adams were riding. If both had been riding in place of Ward and Schlein, they would have romped home by a dozen or more points.

Stick the meeting on a small tight track and give the foreigners something to think about. But regardless of that, we got away with it and that's all that matters at this moment.

I think we're all aware that had Crump and Adams been in the team it MAY have been a different story..But you, of all people running a business will know, that you go for the option that gives you a maximum return??? Despite your protestations, I think the Management of Kings Lynn provided a brilliant event :)

How about Lakeside then? Small tight track and EL riders will have ridden it regularly.

Frankly I'd rather see good racing and for the final 2/3s of the meeting tonight Kings Lynn provided it brilliantly much like Peterborough last season.

There is no denying that with Crump and Adams riding it would have been a different prospect but the Aussie team was designed around Kings Lynn specialists tonight and the Brits did a great job of beating them.

Utter madness to use Kings Lynn.

(1)It's not an EL track. Team GB hardly ever ride on it. Where's the home advantage?

(2)Why wasn't a British EL track used? SWC features EL riders, not PL riders. Kings Lynn should have no right to hold this meeting as they show scant interest in mixing with the better teams.

(3)Why chose a track on a Monday which is about as remote as you can get?

(4)Why chose a track that Batchelor and Ward were brought up on?

(5) This meeting should have been held at Monmore, Coventry or Poole, or a track where the British riders hold the upper hand over their rivals.

(6)This is going to be a walk in the park for the Aussies. Poor call to go to KL.

Lets actually look at what Mr Shovlar said;

Question 1 Its not an Elite track that the Team GB regularly, well okay but it is also a track that the opposition will have rode on regular basis with the exception of Darcy Ward, but how does he know that the Team Manager of Team GB has not arranged for the riders to have a private practice.

Question 2 its not an Elite track, no it not but why should it be why should it be an Elite track, why does it have to be that Elite has the monopoly on International meetings.

Question 3 Okay I will accept that Kings Lynn is not the easiest place to get to.

Question 4; Yes they were brought up on the Kings Lynn track, but young Darcy Ward clearly stated tonight that Kings Lynn was not his favourite track.

Question 5 Coventry I might accept, and at push Monmore Green but seriously Poole when was the last time a British rider let alone one the squad rode for Poole, and also three of the Aussie squad ride for Poole.

Question 6 Clearly you got that one completely wrong Steve as the only walk in the park that the Aussies are doing is to Vojens.

What about a big pat on the back for Keith Chapman and his team

Kings Lynn has changed quite dramatically since my last journey there( for an Olle Nygren training school) and what a super race track wish we could have one like that at Poole every week.

Big thanks to KL

You can expect to see more big time events at Kings Lynn.

Keith Chapman has invested heavily in much improved facilities with a view to staging events such as tonights. Kings Lynn has always been a good race track, much favoured by many top riders for many years, that can only have been enhanced by tonights meeting.

Other than its location what doesnt Kings Lynn have going for it ?

For confirmation just take a look at the stuff on You Tube from 1980, there was nothing wrong with the racing then, there isnt now.
