Ok ok it's in Wales but i just think it is a shame when you have foreign sponsorship it should have had the Royal Navy plastered all over the bib's since they are sponsoring british speedway at the minute.

Only Logo I ever notice is plastered across the Start Tarts' nether regions. And YES I know they were Polish and I don't give a rat's.

And knowing that your colour blind or blind after watching them anyone from the 4 would do

To be fair I noted the Torun logo and wondered why but it didn't bother me - someone else has already explained it somewhere else on here so fair enough. I was in the north lower and there was a pocket of about 10 Poles in front of me who went mental everytime a Pole came on track - let alone if they got to the turn first! It was great, they kind of balanced out the Pro Brit cheering which gave the whole thing a kind of home and away fans thing going on - made for a fantastic atmosphere - so roll on 2011 and a few more of every fan please to lift the roof off!

Just for information... The Torun advertsisng on the

GP race jackets is because Torun will be the European

City of Culture for 2011 I believe. The advertising space

on the race jackets is there for any company to bid on,

which says to me that Torun offered to pay the most

to have their name on them, quite simple really.

The individual GP meeting sponsors are normally placed

on the front fork covers of each and every rider taking

part in said GP, including the two track reserves, add

the meeting sponsors are also placed on the centre green

and airfence normally, then they get plenty of coverage.

I saw the Royal Navy logo plastered all along the safety

fence, particularly on the home straight at Cardiff.

 

The original post just comes across as anti Polish

to be honest. Just be Thankful that our current

coallition Goverment didn't get the chance to bid

for the race jacket coverage, just imagine seeing

Cameron and his dull sidekick splashed over them all

season long....

From what I understand, Torun is sponsoring the series, and so get's pride of place on the bibs, whilst the individual GP main sponsors go on the fork/handlebar covers.

 

I must admit, it does gripe me a little that so much of the sponsorship in speedway is either foreign (Torun, Akiw etc) or when it IS British, it's tiny firms like M Stead or Trucks R Us.

 

I know that Red Bull & Monster are here too, but the hoped for tie between Red Bull F1 & Speedway hasn't materialised (aside from Webber visiting Crumpy). I think they missed a trick by not bringing a couple of the 2009 F1 cars (Mclaren, Red Bull Racing) etc over to the Millenium Stadium for the Fanzone Would be a nice tie in, and could have boosted sales for both. (Anyone else fancy watching a F1 car flooring it past the castle?

 

Unfortunately, until Speedway loses it's image as a poor man's sport, it's not going to get the attention it deserves.

 

Maybe the answer is for a BIG NAME to take on a Speedway team. For the cost of a month of F1 development, a team owner could buy 21 bikes, protective gear, helmets, trucks for transport etc and have 7 riders with no "pay for points" system, but instead a regular salary, all the mod cons etc. Run it like an F1 team (on a much smaller scale) and maybe the interest will pick up. After all, would you support the Poole "Penske" Pirates or Swindon "Red Bull" Robins, or even Newport "McLaren" Wasps..

 

Just a food for thought moment of "What If Speedway had real, serious investment" Could you imagine Lotus operating the Newport track?? you think it would have problems with the conditions?

 

And just think, they could bring the startline girls from the F1 series too

No idea of the costs involved, but it just seems a strange thing for them to do.

It's a recruitment drive. When there are no wars plenty of people want to join the armed forces, but when we have a few wars going on people aren't so keen.

We're recruiting to staff a new Armada to sail into Poland and put Johnny Foreigner in his place.

 

Wonder why the opening poster didn't complain about previous GPs which were sponsored by FIAT vans? (whisper it, but the T in FIAT stands for Turin...bloody Eyeties getting everywhere).

 

I don't see what's wrong with the Leszno tourist board sponsoring speedway on a "visit Leszno" campaign. The GP programme had a "visit Wales" advert. The attractions of Wales were illustrated by photos of someone bog-snorkelling and a piccy of four cows arses....now that is frightening.

It's likely for recruitment purposes. It's typical lack of joined-up government thinking though - the government says it needs to reduce the size of the armed forces, so they go on a recruitment drive.

But we've had an election in between. It's the new government who want to reduce the size of the armed forces. It will have been the old lot that signed up to throw away loads of taxpayers money on something so barmy as a recruitment drive at speedway meetings.

People on this forum complained that tax payers money was used on the new Wembley stadium.

It's a good job no one watches the Speedway GP, think of the uproar, wasting taxpayers money on dirty motorbikes.

yeah but if anyone tries to pull that off tell them that Gotheburgs GP was sponsored byMiljöpartriet (the green party) one year

because they consider Speedway to be a very non polluting sport.

I'm not knocking their sponsorship, just questioning it. If there have been enquiries about joining the Navy as a result of their input (Out of interest, how do you know there has?) then all well and good.

It's about raising awareness in small ways. RAF Careers have in the past provided our karting series with sponsorship - which largely amounted to providing a tent with the RAF logo on it, a flag to put up on the flagpole, and few decals for the karts. Karting is watched by a handful of people, but it does still seem to generate interest and I know at least one karter that joined up.

You only have to look at motorsport in the States to see the sponsorship opportunities; Nascar runs vehicles sponsored by the Army, the National guard and the Coastguard while in Top Fuel Tony 'The Sarge' Schumacher and his 'Army of One' have dominated. Every meeting spotlights troops in the crowd or on Pit Lane - great bang for the bucks. If the RN have seen fit to go for the market good on 'em.
