andyevans
Greetings to everyone !! As a newport wasps fans I guess the British grand prix is on my doorstep and as we all know what an atmosphere will be generated on Saturday. I have got into speedway the last 10 years through my Polish wife and she will also be in attendance again. Last year the city centre resemebled a building site but I am pleased to say that the city centre now is looking splendid. There is one of europe's largest indoor shopping centres now open and the building work has long gone. Theres a John lewis and more restuarant and bars !! So cant wait to get out and about and enjoy the atmosphere around the city centre !!! Its in a way the spiritual home now of Uk speedway and I think compared to Wembley you cant beat the fact its in the centre and the colour and passion prior to the meeting with fans from across the world cant be beaten. For those down for the weekend, Glamorgan have a 20/20 evening game starting at 6.15 on Friday night the ground is a 17,000 situated in the park next to the Cardiff Castle so hit the booze early and if you fancy dress up its a cowboy theme night !!!! The cardiff castle is always open to tourists and well worth a tour, And of course Cardiff Bay is now superb and great on the Friday night and ideal to relax by the seafront. The millenium stadium is around a 5min walk from the main train station, and there are two large weatherspoon pubs great for cheap booze and food, The gatekeeper opposite the stadium and the prince of wales around the corner from the central train station. There is also a 3rd weatherspoons called central bar which is at the end end of Queen street and is usually less busy so ideal for food. They also operatre a boat trip now from Cardiff Bay into the city centre for thoose drinking in that area and fancy something different other than a taxi !! So get your flags and air horns to the ready its gonna be another superb weekend !! Who am i supporting ? well if i say anyone other than gollob i think my wife will slap me he he !!!! Ps there has been a keen history of speedway in Wales a fact often overlooked, Newport wasps are currently flying the flag and of course several clubs have come and gone including a team who once operated in Cardiff itself. And Freddie Williams a Welshman actually won the championship equivalent twice in the 1950's !!!! So there we go Croeso i Caerdydd welcome to Cardiff and I hope everyone has a superb day !! tomcat
Does anyone know how the Mighty Midget is after his spill at Eastbourne on Monday? That was an awful looking fall onto his left wrist and with the subsequent icepack being applied, I wondered if he is going to be fit enough to race on Saturday. Be a shame if he missed out at Cardiff as I reckon he will be there, or there abouts for the Title come the end of the GP series. So...does anyone know how he is? Cheers, TomCat

shirlgirl
Any advice on parking? We're aiming to drive into Cardiff and spending the day looking round before heading to the stadium. Is there any city centre parking or is park and ride the way ahead?
scottyfan
It's my first trip to Cardiff so don't know what to expect exactly so I'm after some advice. Firstly and most importantly when is tapes up? I've seen that engines start at 5pm but I imagine this isn't the time for heat no. 1, is it recommended to get there early to 'soak' up the atmosphere. Also is there any parking near the stadium or is park and ride the best option? Thanks in advance! We usually park at county hall park and ride which is just a few minutes ride by bus into the city centre. There is a car park near the stadium but it is qued up all day to get in, so I would advise park and ride.If you wish to see the pre meeting entertainment and "soak up" the atmosphere,(the atmosphere starts to build up around mid day in the town let alone the stadium. It really is a brilliant day allround) then you should get to the stadium by 3.30-4.00. The meeting usually gets underway with the parade at 5.00, first race as soon as the parade is over. Hope that helps Scottyfan Edited July 7, 2010 by scottyfan

Is there any city centre parking or is park and ride the way ahead? my brother always parks on the grass verge on the way into cardiff by the police station but be warned i have known parking tickets given out. altho hes parked there most years without trouble.the park and ride system would be my advice altho there are car parks over by the harbour area i think
Starman2006
One right outside the stadium, multi story, but that will cost you. that said, if there's several of you in the car split it three or whatever ways and it will work out cheep! There are parking places around the stadium area, but check where you park first for signs or clamping signs!! Just be careful where you park, the sharks will be out in force!! Beeone
Last year there was a large parking area in the park near the stadium, by the cricket ground, it's also where they park the coaches, I don't know what the cost is, or whether there is a charge at all. I actually parked in a multi storey 15 mins walk from the stadium, there was plenty of room in there and it cost me about £7 for the day if I remember right, I'm sorry I cant remember the name of the road it wis in. Have a look on here http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/info/parking_in_cardiff/299/
SimonB
As I said on another thread we park at Newport and use the train to and from Cardiff. Works out a bit more expensive but there are no traffic jams trying to get out of Cardiff.
