Anders
SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 10 Tuesday June 29th 2010 VALSARNA - VÄSTERVIK at Emtbjörks AB Arena, Hagfors After taking all of their three points away from home, Valsarna will be looking to stop their home losing streak at three meetings. The Laguta brothers are still left out, while Roman Povazhny and Krzysztof Jablonski are still in the line-up. However, Valsarna must still cope with the absence of the injured first choice junior Anders Mellgren, with Victor Palovaara taking the junior role. Västervik are back at full strength after Rafal Okoniewski missed last week's action due to a heavy work load with his Polish team Rzeszow. Okoniewski is back, which pushes Nicolai Klindt down to reserve, and Tomasz Chrzanowski out of the line-up. Valsarna (home) 0 (43) 1. Roman Povazhny 2. Sebastian Ulamek 3. Daniel Nermark 4. Henrik Gustafsson 5. Tomasz Gapinski 6. Krzysztof Jablonski 7. Victor Palovaara ( 8. Marcus Broqvist ) Västervik (away) 0 (53) 1. Rafal Okoniewski 2. Peter Ljung 3. Chris Harris 4. Tomasz Jedrzejak 5. Tomasz Gollob 6. Robin Messing 7. Nicolai Klindt ( 8. Robin Bergqvist ) *-*-* LEJONEN - VARGARNA at Axelent Arena, Gislaved The Lions are currently in a three meeting losing streak, and have opted to scratch local rider David Ruud, which is unusual since this being a home meeting. The trio of Nicki Pedersen, Chris Holder and Mikael Max all missed last week's trip to Norrköping but are back in the line-up, replacing Ruud, Leigh Adams and Niklas Klingberg who scored a combined 16 points between them at Vargarna. Krzysztof Kasprzak and Adam Shields are missing from the Wolves's line-up that won comfortably against Lejonen last week. They are replaced by the British duo of Tai Woffinden and Daniel King, as both of them enters at second string positions. Perhaps team manager Peter Jansson have Kasprzak's two performences in Gislaved last year in his memory, with the Pole scoring a lowly 6 points in 9 rides! Lejonen (home) 0 (40) 1. Chris Holder 2. Dave Watt 3. Troy Batchelor 4. Piotr Swiderski 5. Nicki Pedersen 6. Dennis Andersson 7. Mikael Max ( 8. Oliver Berntzon ) Vargarna (away) 0 (56) 1. Scott Nicholls 2. Daniel King 3. Adam Skornicki 4. Tai Woffinden 5. Adrian Miedzinski 6. Michael Jepsen Jensen 7. Kim Nilsson ( 8. André Hertzberg ) *-*-* DACKARNA - PIRATERNA at G&B Arena, Målilla While Dackarna are at full strength, the same can't be said about the Motala outfit. Jonas Davidsson and Linus Sundström are missing due to injuries, and that's two big blows for the Pirates, previously without Emil Sayfutdinov. Against Dackarna, it's especially crucial to gain some advantage against the reserves, but Tomas Bäck will be out of depth IMO, so Piraterna are certainly up against it. Dackarna haven't lost yet, and I think they'll remain unbeaten after this one. Dackarna (home) 0 (48) 1. Andreas Jonsson 2. Hans Andersen 3. Fredrik Lindgren 4. Peter Karlsson 5. Rune Holta 6. Ricky Kling 7. Ludvig Lindgren ( 8. Joel Larsson ) Piraterna (away) 0 (48) 1. Antonio Lindbäck 2. Damian Balinski 3. Rafal Dobrucki 4. Robert Kosciecha 5. Greg Hancock 6. Tomas Bäck 7. Maciej Janowski ( 8. Tobias Bäck ) *-*-* INDIANERNA - ELIT VETLANDA at ICA Maxi Arena, Kumla Most of the Indianerna riders from last week remains in the team, as Magnus Zetterström appearently is still unavailable from his broken thumb. Daniel Jeleniewski, who was also unavailable at Vetlanda, enters the team instead of Linus Eklöf to form strong a partnership at reserve with Simon Gustafsson. Elit Vetlanda are in good form, and keeps the same riders in the line-up as in previous weeks. The evenly matched duo at reserve, Aspegren/Gomolski continues. However, a change has been made as Janusz Kolodziej takes the number 1 race jacket, while Lee Richardson rides as a second string alongside Jaroslaw Hampel. Jonas Messing takes the number eight junior position, instead of Jacob Thorssell. Indianerna (home) 0 (33) 1. Niels-Kristian Iversen 2. Bjarne Pedersen 3. Piotr Protasiewicz 4. Leon Madsen 5. Grzegorz Walasek 6. Simon Gustafsson 7. Daniel Jeleniewski ( 8. Pontus Nilsson ) Elit Vetlanda (away) 0 (63) 1. Janusz Kolodziej 2. Thomas H Jonasson 3. Jaroslaw Hampel 4. Lee Richardson 5. Jason Crump 6. Robin Aspegren 7. Adrian Gomolski ( 8. Jonas Messing ) *-*-* This week's Canal+ meeting is - once again - the Dackarna vs Piraterna fixture. That one, and all remaining meetings, can be followed via live updates on www.speedway.nu from 19:00 local time.
brandonbee48
Anders, thank you for your always informative and considered posts. A few questions for you. Is there a points limit for the teams in Sweden? I know they have a squad system but is this also subject to a limit? Secondly, what is the admission price for a meeting? The crowds look reasonably good for a televised meeting, particularly compared to England. Are the teams financially okay on this set up? They are very strong teams, compared to the UK, which is why i always look forward to Tuesday.I love the atmosphere at the venues, particularly the tracks with picnic tables at the start line. I hope we get a stream tomorrow and send my regards to you from the USA. Alan.
Anders
Anders, thank you for your always informative and considered posts. You are welcome. Is there a points limit for the teams in Sweden? I know they have a squad system but is this also subject to a limit? The point limit for each line-up (riders 1-7) are 42.00. Of the seven riders in the line-up, at least one must be a Swedish junior. There are no point limit for the entire squad. Secondly, what is the admission price for a meeting? The admissions for Elit Vetlanda are: Adults (from 18 and up): 150 SEK (12.90 GBP / 19.40 USD / 15.70 EUR ) Youth (16 and 17 years): 50 SEK (4.30 GBP / 6.50 USD / 5.20 EUR ) Programme: 30 SEK (2.60 GBP / 3.90 USD / 3.10 EUR) Seating in grand stand: 20 SEK (1.70 GBP / 2.60 GBP / 2.10 EUR) I guess that most of the other clubs have 150 SEK for adults, but possibly have an special OAP and/or student discount as well. We (Elit Vetlanda) don't. The crowds look reasonably good for a televised meeting, particularly compared to England. Are the teams financially okay on this set up? I must admit I were surprised to see the attendence figure for last week's TV meeting, I wouldn't have expected that many TBH. If I'm forced to make a guess, my estimation is that the figure is around 20% less people on a TV meeting, than on a meeting against the same team, but without TV. The deal with Canal+ isn't an exceptionally good one from what I've heard, but it's still coverage, and it helps to attract sponsors. For the general finances among the clubs, it could be a struggle for many teams. Attendence figures are way down so far, in comparsion to the averages of last season. Rospiggarna, Lejonen and Västervik have so far lost more than 30% in attendence figure, and the league in general is down by almost 19 %. Alarming figures, and Valsarna have already discussed in cutting costs. We'll have to wait and see...
brandonbee48
Anders, thank you for your information regarding the questions i asked. Very much appreciated. I see the crowds in Poland and go "amazing". I see the crowds in Sweden, and go "respectable, considering the economic situation". I see the crowds in England and i want to weep. I know these are televised matches, but still. I see Coventry and Wolverhampton, where i used to go every week, and i can almost count the total number of people. The promoters??????? in England need to look at Polish and Swedish admission prices. If i were there and at 16 pounds , i might be tempted to pick and choose a bit.Plus you get 16 heats in Sweden. Very best wishes. Alan.
Ghostwalker
i have to say that i am quite surprised that both Västervik and Valsarna have such poor attendances. One would think that a team like Valsarna, who have managed to return to Elitserien after many years' absence, would have some interest among its fans and those who live in the town of Hagfors and it surroundings. But on the other hand we've seen it before with Smederna, Masarna and many other teams. The fans seems to be too picky when it comes to their own team. Fans don't seem to understand if they stay at home their team won't get any money to sign good riders and then the team will loose allot and then more fans will stay at home. Some of Smenderna's officials claimed that the track is too far from the city centre. However in 2003 Smederna had an average of 4300 people/meeting then we lost the final against Kaparna and that was the beginning of the end. Also look at Dackarna, a team in a 1800 people municipality, who have had almost 4000 people/meeting so far this season. So i don't think the distance is the main problem but rather that people are too picky about what riders they want to have in the team. Regarding the lack of team points limit i would like one that was set about 10-11-12p higher then the 1-7 limit this would prevent teams from signing high averga riders just as a backup. Particularly Lejonen has used this method. A team that has won two titles with money they dont have.
