willp
THE Golden Hammer, one of the region's most famous sporting events from the past, is back next month! The showpiece individual event, which regularly attracted crowds in excess of 5,000 at Cradley's old Dudley Wood home, will be staged for the first time since 1996 at Wolverhampton's Monmore Green Stadium on Tuesday, July 13. It will be staged over 20-heats and the winner will be the top points scorer under the traditional old format. All eight Heathens squad riders have been included in the line-up and they'll be joined by eight invited guests from around the National League, including American ace Gino Manzarez. And as a bonus to fans, admission prices will be pegged at £10 adults, £5 concessions and £2 children - a special full colour programme with extra pages will be produced for £3. Season tickets will also be valid in a goodwill gesture to holders. Team boss Will Pottinger said: "This really is great news, Nigel (Pearson) and me looked at the gap in meetings and he then suggested we should do the Golden Hammer. "It's a meeting a lot of supporters have been asking about and it represents great value for money in my view. It's a win-win situation and once again brings more publicity to the club. "One of our supporters, Dee Gee Trophies, are already looking into providing a replica Hammer for the winner!"

willp
DUDLEY Heathens Speedway bosses have been amazed by the response from fans to the return of the Golden Hammer individual meeting next month. The event, which is also promoting the FAST message through Dudley Stroke Association, takes place at Monmore Green, Wolverhampton, on Tuesday, July 13. Club manager Will Pottinger said: "The feedback from supporters has been quite staggering and we're going to have a great night. "Everyone I've spoken to is excited about it and we're really looking forward to a great night of racing. "It's also nice to be promoting Dudley Stroke Association and their FAST message - Face, Arms, Speech, Time. "Riders have welcomed the meeting too and in bringing back the old days we've even got the original Dudley Wood Pork Sandwich van coming to Monmore Green. That will be busy all night, I'll be tucking into one for sure!" All eight Heathens riders have been booked for the event along with reigning National League Riders' Champion Craig Cook, Mildenhall man Jerran Hart, Aussie newcomer Michael Dyer, American teenager Gino Manzarez and Newport's stylish Australian Todd Kurtz, Birmingham reserve Kyle Newman and Buxton's new sensation Nick Morris. Brummie Kev
Looking a decent line up, might pop along to this. From a Brummies Perspective I hope Kyle Newman does very well and should be good to see Aussie Michael Dyer. I read that we are funding his trip to the UK so should be interesting to see if he is one for the future.
willp
DUDLEY Heathens skipper Lee Smart will appear in the first race of next week's FAST Golden Hammer individual meeting at Wolverhampton. Smart, who freely admits he enjoys riding the Monmore Green track, will face young Aussie sensation Tyson Nelson, Heathens colleague Jake Anderson and Glasgow's teenage star Nick Morris in the prestigious individual event which takes place on Tuesday, July 13. Heathens Chairman Nigel Pearson said: "It's an exciting field, packed with young riders desperate to make their mark. "And the fans are excited by this meeting. As soon as we announced the relaunch of the Heathens after a 14-year absence we were snowed under by requests for the Golden Hammer." Smart, meanwhile, has also been booked by parent club Birmingham to make a guest appearance for them against Redcar at Perry Barr on Wednesday. GOLDEN HAMMER LINE-UP: Tyson Nelson, Lee Smart, Jake Anderson, Nick Morris, Craig Cook, Ashley Morris, James Sarjeant, Kyle Newman, Tom Perry, Gino Manzares, Micky Dyer, Jerran Hart, Simon Lambert, Richard Franklin, Todd Kurtz, Jon Armstrong. heathen79
GOLDEN HAMMER LINE-UP: Tyson Nelson, Lee Smart, Jake Anderson, Nick Morris, Craig Cook, Ashley Morris, James Sarjeant, Kyle Newman, Tom Perry, Gino Manzares, Micky Dyer, Jerran Hart, Simon Lambert, Richard Franklin, Todd Kurtz, Jon Armstrong. Cracking looking line-up. Smart, Cook, Kurtz, Armstrong, Hart probably all capable of winning. Perry, Dyer and Morris all good spoilers too. Not sure whether there may be a question mark over Tyson Nelson now given the protests about his visa. I heard the suggestion that he may not be allowed to ride anywhere, including in this meeting (Edit: hopefully he's ok to compete as it's just an open meeting). rami
I predict it will be called the golden hammer not the golden helmet Difficult one to call, its an excellent line up but i will go for a top three of Lee Smart, Craig Cook, Jon Armstrong but then you cant rule out Nick Morris, Jerran Hart, Simon Lambert throw in a couple of spoilers Tom Perry, Micky Dyer and young American Gino Manzares - almost impossible to call, really looking forward to it as long as the rain stays away. Brummie Kev
This should be good if the weather holds, hoping Kyle Newman can take the win but there are so many others that could do it. Might get there a bit earlier as I reckon there might be a huge queue at the gates like the Bournemouth meeting. Can see a crowd of over 2,000 there tomorrow easily.
