Well, what a night that was! biggrin.gif

Can I say a HUGE thanks to the amazing crowd last night? You guys were awesome and the noise levels were fantastic. It had the right effect on the boys and all I heard from the riders was how amazing the crowd were. The flag waving and general enthusiasm was just superb.

I also want to praise the great work of Kevin Moore in the box who was an absolute joy to work with. He kept the results 100% up to date all night and was totally professional throughout the meeting. Ben who looked after the music also had a really tough job putting up with me every few races , the sky live feeds and all the other distractions but he coped very well indeed. Shame we didn't manage to use even half of the pre race music or play offs that I had recorded but the time just didn't allow for any of that. No sooner had the riders gone back to the pits, the 2 minute warning was on and off we went again!

Sorry I wasn't allowed to do the shout outs or interviews before the meeting - I didn't realise that until 5.30pm!!! rolleyes.gif

Obviously I would have been much happier on the centre all night but that was never an option so I found a good place in front of the Royal box and it all seemed to work OK in the end.

Credit to the Chapman family who have put so much time, effort and money into the stadium and to Rob Lyon the best team manager I have every known!

We've come a long way from my first spell on the mic there in 1988 when you had to wipe your feet as you left the stadium!

All I can say is I felt very proud to be British when our National Anthem was played at the end presentation - and I'm a Scot! biggrin.gif

Good luck to all the boys for Saturday and here's hoping we have another chance to hold such a prestigious meeting at the Norfolk Arena!

SILVER BEE and SCB and a few of their little posse with them actually cheered and clapped when Rory went hard into the fence, lads you can deny it all you like and even send in your village idiot to fight ya battles but ...... I looked away when Rory went into the fence and was facing you at the time watching you cheering and clapping

Why would they do that to a Coventry asset? I don't know anyone, other than football fans, who go to sport to see participants injured, let alone to assets of your own team.

Thought it was not as good as the first round in poland but it was very tense due to the closeness of the score . The ozzys showed a bit of immaturity when they pulled faces into olders helmet camera , couldnt visualise Adams or Crump joining in with this childish behaviour they probably cringed when they saw it sad.gif

I think the crowd was very large, does anyone know how many people were there?

Chris and Scott were very impressive!

Regarding the venue, KL for me was a very good choice as it's nearby. It also is a good track and the facilities for watching ensure that you can see well, whether you stand on the steep 'steps' or sit in the grandstand. £35? No thank you!

Australia looked very good at the beginning, winning all 3 of the first 3 heats. It was a pleasant surprise to see England, I mean, Great Britain, win. Great performance from the Brits all round :)

speedwaygp.com has the official attendance figure down as 4810. Now that seems a ridiculously low figure to what was actually there. The attendance figure was higher than that for the British Semi Final and there was definitely more than that there last night :blink::o

No sorry I think the Aussies have a great attitude towards the sport all of them do what they do because they love it and are passionate about it. They don't take themselves off into corners to meditate I like to see the comaradery that they show.

My only negative on King's Lynn last night was that I wish I never spent £35 to sit in the Royal Box as it was called what silly idiot came up with the idea that if you sat in there you had to support GB and issue you with a GB flag. I had to then go and spend a tenner to prove a point to support the Aussies instead. Also the view from their was absolutely lousy. Catering there lastnight was pretty useless as well qeuing for hours for drink's etc.

Jesus Christ why were you supporting the Aussie's

it started to liven up that might have been with the help of the insect invasion maybe they had been sent in by RORY SCHLEIN family and friends after learning that SILVER BEE and SCB and a few of their little posse with them actually cheered and clapped when Rory went hard into the fence, lads you can deny it all you like and even send in your village idiot to fight ya battles but ...... I looked away when Rory went into the fence and was facing you at the time watching you cheering and clapping, in front of me is bad enough as everyone knows that is my mega pet hate of mine BUT in front of Rorys Mum that was a definate no no!!!! ......give you your due you did try to get out of it by saying you were cheering on another rider at the time, unfortunately the rider you said you were cheering wasn't in that race!!!!!

You need new glasses and/ a hearing aid. We did not cheer as we told you last night.

Also, "Heat 10 (Re-Run): Davidsson, Aarnio, Schlein (Excluded), Woffinden (Excluded)."

So Aarnio WAS in the race. And we only said we were supporting him when we were told it was pathetic to be cheering because Rory was "last". I'll support who I want to, in the SWC, thats Team GB and anyone who's not a threat to us and taking points off the opposition (so the Finns).

My pet hate, probably the thing I dislike more than anything from speedway fans is the tendancy to cheer when riders fall off.

And sorry, but who did we "send"? I don't even know of anyone going to see you, let alone actually sending anyone.

This is one thing that really annoys me about this forum. Football fans get all sorts of stuff thrown at them, Idont know a single football fan who goes to games to see players get injured.

Sure there is probably a brainless few who do.... but the same can be said that some speedway fans only go to see crashes and injuries.

good meeting last night, in the grandstand and thought it wasnt worth its value at all, the view was near shocking from there, the fencing, and the stairs getting in the way. Commentator as usual, awful.

Ozzy's lacked the consistancy to win, whilst the brits should of run away with it IMO, as had a stronger team.

The whole set up though was good, and coped with a big crowd, so well done all to do with Lynn.

Thought the presentation was very good indeed. It was my first visit to the circuit and I found the whole set-up very impressive.

As ever, there will be the odd glitch to complain about. I know the timescale was tight with 25 heats to get through and consequently results had to be rattled through. But there is no point in building up for a big cheer by saying "And first for Great Britain..." and then having the winner's time drowned out by klaxons. Some of us nerdy types like to record these things! The repeat time was usually competing against engines/two-minute warning from the next heat. It wouldn't have done any harm to run through the times five heats at a time during grading.

And secondly I have no objection to parking in a field when the positions are indicated efficiently by marshals. I do have an objection to the complete free for all that was involved with getting out.

But these are quibbles and shouldn't be allowed to detract from an extremely successful staging.

Aren't those two sentences contradictory? How could you tell someone something without actually going and speaking to them? Telepathy?

EL riders have far more skill than PL riders, as well as speed. That's why in the latter part of last nights meeting you saw some passing. Harris in heat 24, Woffinden, Ward and Lindgren in heat 22.

A shame we had to wait two thirds of the meeting for it to wake up from the snoozefest it was. Too many on here wearing rose tinted glasses if they thought is was a classic meeting last night. It certainly wasn't. It only redeemed itself by Team GB winning and a few good races at the end. I said it earlier. Peterborough last year was in a different league to last night.

SS, you must be the most hypercritical poster this forum has ever had. You watch Poole week in and week out thrash other EL teams and yet have the nerve to call last nights meeting a snooze fest.

Team GB may not win the SWC, but they did beat a good young Aussie side who were all KL track specialist, and if that does not get your heart beating with pride then I guess you don't have one, or maybe it is the fact that 3 of your beloved Poole team were on the losing side.

Is there anything fans here won't whine about :D

I enjoyed the meet and it was wonderful to see our riders come out on top.

Of course GB won't win the WC but as long as they give a good account then that is progress.

Moaning about the fact we only beat weakened teams is pointless.

GB were weakened by the loss of Loram and Louis in previous years but had to just get on with it. That's speedway.

Credit where its due and our lads did marvellous.

I thought the Aussies would pip us and those last 5 heats would go their way.

Glad to see I was wrong and our lads fought for every point.

Tai beating Holder was class and had to laugh at his comment that he could see what Chris was doing by watching the helmet cam on the big screen. Good one son!

Lee got a great win and Steady was exactly that.

Bomber and Scotty were top class and inspired the rest.

Getting to the final is an acheivment for GB and one hopefully they can build on.

It might help inspire some of the younger lads to want to be part of that.

Our boys never seem to get the money from sponsors they deserve and have the handicap of usually being outclassed equipment wise but last night was their night and they deserved their glory.

Putting them down especially when those doing it are British is silly.

Last year the Russians deservedly got tons of praise for thier qualifying feats and what GB did last night was no different to that.

We are hardly a top speedway nation anymore.

Give cerdit where it's due and deserved.

We did well last night.

:)

Couldn't agree more. Well done to the Brits, an excellent result and best of luck for Saturday. I hope that Stead improves his gating as it will be vital at Vojens. Couldn't believe Lindgren trying to get reinstated for Heat 1 - clearly minimal contact if any at all and nothing to make a rider fall off. I don't think the Aussies were being arrogant, simply trying to keep relaxed and not let the pressure get to them. Wonder if Lyon will keep the same riding order putting out Scott in the first & last heats - I think it should be the job of the Captain to shoulder that pressure to bring it home.

No. I tend to find that when someone is shouting at me from 20 metres away, I'm capable of shouting back. I don't need to send anyone.

I hate to have a conversation with you if it has to be done by proxy/with a middle man :P

I dont post often but due to the fact that everyone is entitled to there own opinion and freedom of speech, i feel compelled to say that tonight in my opinion! the racing was awesome, the track was superb, the riders for all teams were fantastic (and lets face it we were not riding), but most importantly Kings Lynn (Norfolk arena) gave a superb venue tonight and yes they were chosen over others. So what ever our personal opinions our or your feelings are to Kings Lynn, lets be honest and say that tonight speedway was the winner, and maybe we could please show some appreciation to the staff and crew that do read this forum and are often the unsung heroes (they do have feelings too) have worked endless hours for not just tonight but for some, many days, weeks and even months too bring you the fans/critics a meeting that will always contain controversy.

As a signing off note I would like to say well done and congratulations to everyone involved tonight and most importantly congratulations to the fans for all there support whoever the team they choose and the rider they follow!

Excellent post and I agree with all you say.

Well done Kings Lynn and, of course, to Team GB!
