I've just missed that man not racing in this country. Didn't even have the chance to see him last season when he was with Eastbourne for a little while. The Poles pushed them all the way at Vojens in 2008 and Denmark seemed set for domination around that time. It's all gone pear shaped for the Danes since then and they didn't even make the final last season, in spite of hosting one of the "semi-finals" (Russia won at Vojens). Only Bjerre has really shone for the Danes this season, so it's easy to see why people are "bigging up" the Poles. Gollob and Hampel are leading the world championship charge, while Holta is comfortably in the top eight. Add to that Kolodziej and Miedzinski who both are showing really good form and it wont be a wild guess that the Polish team will be hard to beat. especially this year, when Ole Olsen is out and Tony Olsson is in charge of the track. I think this could be fairly tight between 3 of the teams, no disrespect to the Finns. Isn't Olsson's mantra to leave it in the hands of the usual track staff, which for Vojens would mean Ole Olsen, or has he stepped down from active involvement at Vojens as well? However Zorro said in his radio show a few days ago that its Tony who decides what the track should be like and that BSI/FIM brings their own track staff. Nicki Pedersen hasn't been at his best this season either, although I'm not sure if he was at the race-off last season after clashing with Laguta in Vojens. Only Bjerre of the Danes has showed much of anything this season. I don't totally discount Denmark, I just understand why people are tipping the Poles. Most British riders seem to be diminished when they pull on the country's racing jacket, or haven't you noticed some of Britain's abject displays in recent seasons? He's a Poole rider so it is obvious that (some) Coventry fans just have to say something distasteful, in the same way that some Poole fans have to do the same back at Coventry riders! I was at Peterborough and Leszno last year and was most impressed with the Brits; they were a young side and even tho' they didn't do brilliantly they never gave up and represented their country well. Having said that, the Poles were a well-drilled machine but it still came down to the last heat decider and if it hadn't been for the rain around heat 20 and the Joker the result could have been totally different - but then if me auntie had balls she'd be me uncle. With the old hands back in the team and racing well I'm looking for an improved performance from GB this year and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they finish runners-up to Denmark in the Race-off. (I'm tipping Poland and Oz to go straight through to the Final, and checking the trusty Rose-tinted Crystal Ball all I can see through me Green & Gold Blinkers is an Aussie Victory - NURSE!!!!)
