speedy den boy
"It's really idiot bad" Västervik Speed Railways Seimour Östervall on audience figures Attendance Tappet continues to Västervik Speedway. President Seimour Östervall is, to say the least, frustrated. And Sunshine Speedway. An equation that usually get Västervik residents to pilgrimage to Swedbank Arena. But in Tuesday's game against Rospiggarna fainted only 1741 people to get to the match. - It's really idiot bad. I had expected more now that the weather was good. Possible to hockey on the TV recording. I feel frustrated, "says Seimour. The question is whether Västervik residents are more concerned about their Speedwaylag or if the club is too bad at promoting itself? - We have just had a crisis in the club. I really think Västervik residents can get off the couch, "says Seimour. Can you market yourself more? - Well, we can only hope that people will. Now is not the declining attendance figures any major disaster, when the club only budgeted for 1800-2000 people. Ghostwalker
Speedy den boy, do have a link to where you read it? If you post it i can give you a much better translation. Also a little side note, Swedish speedway teams does NOT have a owner, they own themselves. Evben if all teams have incorporated the actual team organisation always owns at least 51% of the stocks of the "Speedway team Inc."
Deano
Either way... I get the jest he's one disappointed promoter.

Ghostwalker
Either way... I get the jest he's one disappointed promoter. Seimour Östervall is the club president as he is the chairman in Västervik Speedway. Swedish teams doesn't have the promotor system you have in Britain. Its really *swearing* bad. The amount of spectators continues to go downwards and the chairman Seimour Östervall, is to say the least, very frustrated. Sunshine and speedway usually means that the poeple will come in good numbers to Sparbanken Arena (sprabanekn is a local bank in Västervik) but against last weeks meeting against Rospiggarna, only 1744 people showed up. Its really *swearing* bad, i had expected more now when the weather was good but perhaps icehockey on tv (world championships) affects the amount of spectators. I feel very frustrated says Seimour Östervall. The question is if Västervik's inhabitants isn't more interested in seeing their speedway team or if the club is not good enough at market and promote the team? We just had a crisis in the club. I think that Västerviks inhabitants should leave the coach says Seimour. Can you market yourself better? -Well we can only hope that people comes. The low attendances is not an immediate disaster since the club have calculated with a spectator average at 1800-2000 people/meeting. -its better to make a lower expectation budget then to make a budget with exaggerated expectations that will be hard to reach up to. Haven't you put the ambitions to low? -after the crisis we have had to focus on chasing sponsors and money while we also have lowered our rider salaries, says Seimour, who explains that the club haven't had neither the time and financial resources to promote themselves better. Will it become better in the future? yes then we will have the time to structure it allot better. the bold lines are the reporters question to the club president. http://www.vt.se/spo...ticleid=5384737 Edited May 25, 2010 by Ghostwalker

womble53
Not just GB then! I would think that there are quite a few UK promoters that would kill to get 1700+ supporters through the gate

Sounds as though the Swedish clubs have budgeted ok though regards paying their riders.

Sounds as though the Swedish clubs have budgeted ok though regards paying their riders. Don't think Västerviks attendances are down by half let alone more than half.Maybe 30%.But they have only had two home meetings or so.And i can't say what the weather has been like there, but judging by here the temps are 5 degrees below average for May.So a few good meetings with good weather and they will be on target again.Of course that might also be affected by whether they are riding at the same time as a big football World Cup match. But the World Cup will affect almost every sport in every country.Västervik aren't ,as far as i know one of the clubs that get 4 or 5 thousand Edit:Checking the previous 7 seasons for the only meeting that can be compared i.e Rospigarna i make it that this meeting of 1,744 is about 20% down on the average.I guess as the Dackarna meeting was only run until the 11th heat, that it was affected by the weather and so can't really be compared to previous season Edited May 26, 2010 by iris123
Ghostwalker
last years spectator statistics (from speedway.nu): Dackarna....... 4255 Lejonen..........3800 Indianerna......3452 Elit Vetlanda...3338 Västervik........3138 Piraterna .......3111 Vargarna........2508 Rospiggarna...2473 Smederna......2163 Smedernas home meetings were held early in the season before they went broke and the weather wasn't especially good at the first 2-3 meetings. And the final home meeting at Vargarna, which was held at a sunny June evening, attracted 3183 people and their lowest attendance was against Rospiggarna when only 1400 showed up. f-s-p
Also the hockey WC was on for the past two weeks. People outside the UK yet still in EU are interested in ice hockey a little atleast. Swedes and Finns anyway...
Lejon
We have had a very cold spring over here in Sweden - although the northern parts had very hot temperature - still no speedway tracks. If speedway is taking a punch this spring the footie had a downfall with 30-40% this spring. I asume people have got a good explanation to this. Paying 140 SEK to get through the turnstiles seems maybe to U.K spectators cheap I think - still it is in level with swedish PL footie and if you field a team that don´t perform and the weather is bad , well...
