Anders
DIVISION 1 - SUNDAY 10/08/08 I have previously stated that the Division 1 round held in this week is the 14th in order, but it's actually round 15. Sorry for that. Round 15: Team Värmland - Nässjö 47-49 After winning the June meeting between these two teams in Nässjö by two points, the Nässjö side once again imposed a two point defeat to the Hagfors/Karlstad team. The home side, riding in Karlstad for yesterday's meeting, dominated the meeting by winning 11 of the 16 heats, but Nässjö still managed to win the meeting! Thomas H Jonasson made another appearence for Nässjö, this time for Robin Aspegren who rode for Newport against Somerset, but he found out that it isn't easy to score at will, even in Division 1. He was passed by Jeremia Thelaus in his first, and couldn't catch the flying first year rider Mathias Thörnblom in his fourth. Though when it mattered the most, Thomas took the win in heat 16 to preserve Nässjö's two point lead. Overall, it was the depth of the Nässjö line-up that came through in this one. Reserves Michael Sjöqvist (guest for the long term injured Kalle Fleetwood-Carlsson) and veteran Mikael Axelsson scored a maximum in the second reserve heat, heat 11, which eventually proved to be the matchwinning performance. Team Värmland must feel gutted over the second narrow loss against Nässjö this season. They fielded an excellent guest for the unavailable Robin Törnqvist in Gnistorna rider Mathias Thörnblom, but they severly missed the services of Victor Palovaara who rode for the Swedish U19 team in the European Junior Team Championship in Czech Republic. Thomas Didriksson, after an 18 year abscent, was drafted in so they could field a full line-up... Team Värmland 47 Anders Mellgren 3-3-3-1-2 = 12 (5) Adrian Bergqvist 0-1-1-0-0 = 2 (5) Jeremia Thelaus 3-2*-2-3-3 = 13+1 (5) Tomas Gunnerstad 0-3-F-1* = 4+1 (4) Mathias Thörnblom (guest) 3-3-2-3-1* = 12+1 (5) Marcus Broqvist 3-0-0-0-1 = 4 (5) Thomas Didriksson R-R-T-0 = 0 (4) Nässjö 49 Jacob Thorssell 2-1-1*-2-1* = 7+2 (5) Olof Nilsson (guest) 1*-0-2-0 = 3+1 (4) Thomas H Jonasson 2-R-3-2-3 = 10 (5) Henric Lindqvist 1*-3-2-1*-0 = 7+2 (5) Jonas Messing 2-3-2-0-2 = 9 (5) Michael Sjöqvist (guest) 2-2*-1*-3 = 8+2 (4) Mikael Axelsson 1*-1*-1-2* = 5+3 (4) Round 15: Eldarna - Stjärnorna Postponed due to rain. Round 8: Hultsfred's Gymnasium - Ikaros Smederna 44-52 Ikaros Smederna took a huge step towards the league victory, in the Division 1 league, by defeating Team Hultsfreds Gymnasium (THG) with 52-44 at G&B arena. Smederna won despite that they only had 6 riders in the lineup. Alexander Edberg was forced to withdraw from the meeting since the U19 Euro Team Cup was postponed from y.day to today. Also Jacek Basinski was supposed to have ridden but i don't know why he didnt ride. To cover for Edberg, Smederna managed to loan Oliver Berntzon who normally rides for Gnistorna/Örnarna. Smederna are 10p ahead of Gnistorna and THG although both of them have 3 meetings more remaining then Smederna have. Round 15: Hultsfred's Gymnasium - Gasarna 60-33 After losing to Ikaros Smederna earlier on the day, Hultsfred got two points from the meeting with Gasarna. Daniel Gunnestad rode as a guest for the home side's Thomas Ljung who withdrew from the Smederna meeting after a crash. Christian Isomettä and Mattias Persson only had one ride each for Hultsfred, but Dackarna's reserve team still scored an easy victory. For Gasarna, Andreas Bergström top scored with 11 points in 6 rides while Simon Lindh-Åström withdrew after a fall in his first outing. Anders
A fine meeting in Malmö yesterday, on a well prepared track with good, close and fast racing. Not a single fall or re-run was needed so it all run along smoothly, infront of 1041 persons. Mikael Max was, as can be seen in the scoresheet, in a class of his own and clocked a new track record (63,5 i heat 1) on his way to the maximum. Closer though for places 7-10 as both Freddie Eriksson and Linus Sundström looked destined to be eliminated after only 4 points in 4 rides, but a heat victory each in their last outings forced a race off for places 7-10. Freddie lead from the gate and Linus Eklöf looked a sure bet for second place, but Linus Sundström chased hard for four laps and eventually found a way through on the final meters of the heat. Good racing! It will be interesting to see what Smederna's Daniel Gunnestad can do against THJ. Ikaros Smederna have an incredible line-up, with such a strength in depth. As you say, Nässjö may have the top end power, so it should be a highly interesting meeting, just hoping the weather allows the team to race on a fair track, the crowd could be in for a treat. I don't know yet if this will be streamed by Smederna, if not we have to rely on Anders filming it with his mobilephone camera . I doubt that the Internet connection from the Skogsvallen track is good enough to allow a live streaming to take place. Filming with my mobile phone is impossible, because the last phone I bought was probably one of the simplest models available (Samsung E1310), without a camera in fact. I'm 99% sure there will be photographers at the meeting, so at least some pictures will be available from the meeting. I'' post a link if that's the case. Ghostwalker
Hammarby's team manager Fredrik Edberg have received a 10 month suspension for being verbal abusive against (threatening) a referee. The claimed incident happened in June during a meeting in div 1 between Ikaros Smederna and Nassjö at Smederna's track. Edberg denies that he threatened the referee but agrees that he was upset with him because he had fined two of Smedernas's riders because they were riding their bikes in he pit without the "dead man's switch" around the wrist. Henrik Karlsson and Alexander Edberg (son of Fredrik) both received a £175GBP fine each and Fredrik though that the fine was unnecessary high for a Div 1 rider. Fredrik also claims that several other riders also rode their bikes in the pits without the safety device. http://folket.se/spo...eedway/1.781136 This is the same Fredrik Edberg who last year were convicted in court for various economical crimes. Anders
DIVISION 1 - WEDNESDAY 10/08/18 Nässjö - Ikaros Smederna 41-55 League leading Ikaros Smederna showed just why they're top of Division 1 as they got off to a massive 22-8 start at Nässjö, a hole that proved to be too much for the home side to climb out of in the end. Nässjö definitely wanted to keep their unbeaten streak at the Skogsvallen track in Nässjö (the only home loss so far was at Vetlanda), but despite a better period in the meeting, from heats 6 to 9, it wasn't meant to be. The deficit was cut to only four points after nine heats, 25-29, but the strength in depth simply was the reason why Ikaros Smederna could pull away once again after the interval. Though Henric Lindqvist won heat 11 against the previously unbeaten Daniel Gunnestad, the following three heats meant a 13-5 advantage for the Eskilstuna team, and the meeting was over. As team manager for Nässjö, I must admit I thought we should have been able to keep it closer, and even though you could easily find riders who should have scored more in the team, you'll have to stand up and give Ikaros Smederna credit for their performance. Team manager Jimmy Jansson has an interesting team, and with a couple of good additions, they shouldn't make a fool of themselves in the Allsvenskan league. Congrats! Some pictures are available on Elit Vetlanda's website. I'll post a link when the gallery on Johannes Ericsson's website are updated with pictures from this meeting. Andreas Berglund recorded a five ride paid maximum while guests Freddy Godlund and Marcus Åström scored ten points each for Eldarna. Gnistorna - Team Värmland 29-25 Both teams forced their way through the rain to get a result that would actually stand. Mathias Thörnblom scored a three ride maximum for the home side, in which Paul Mårtensson rode at number 7 after a 16 year absence to record a heat win and 4 paid 5. Guest Tim Gudmundsson had six points in three rides for Team Värmland.
Anders
*edit Anders, why did the meeting start already at 18.00 instead of the normal 19.00? Since the Nässjö track doesn't have floodlights, we didn't dare to start at 19:00. It would have been no problems if it was a clear evening, but if it would have been a cloudy evening or delays in the meeting, it would of been a high risk of the meeting being abandoned due to darkness. On another subject, a new date has been set for Nässjö's previously postponed home meeting against Hultsfred's Gymnasium. It will be held on Saturday August 28th. DIVISION 1 - WEDNESDAY 10/08/25 Ikaros Smederna - Hultsfred's Gymnasium 65-30 1st placed Ikaros Smederna secured the Division 1 league title, despite several meetings remaining in the regular season. Norwegian Daniel Gunnestad scored a five ride full maximum as the Eskilstuna team once again smashed an opponent, this time the 2nd placed Målilla team. Hultfred's Gymasnium had their top scorers in Joel Larsson and guest Mathias Thörnblom with 10 and 9 points respectively. Indianerna Junior - Filbyterna Postponed due to rain. New date TBA. Gasarna - Nässjö 42-54 Henric Lindqvist fell while leading heat 2 to gift Gasarna a maximum and an early lead. Three heats later it was tied, and when Jonas Messing and cousin Andreas scored a maximum in heat 6, Nässjö were in command. A successful tactical substitution in heat 10 cut the deficit in half, from eight to four (28-32) points, but Nässjö were the stronger team after the interval. When Jacob Thorssell made T/S Eric Andersson lose his first point of the night, in heat 13, Nässjö were close to the win. In theory, the win wasn't clinched until Jonas Messing and Robin Aspegren proved that the art of team riding isn't dead, as they scored a heat 15 maximum. Then Thorssell once again beat Andersson in heat 16, much thanks to Andreas Messing who close the inside lines on the opening bends to give Thorssell a freeway on the outside half on the track.
