SCOTLAND1314
Not that I'm looking for it to happen, but does Greg Hancock's non-appearance mean he will be banned?
Sandie
With all due respect, the USA are never gonna do anything in the SWC at the moment. Given the amount of money that Zielona Gora pay Greg, I think they are perfectly entitled to request that he focus on their matches. Having said that, it is pretty pathetic that the USA raced with only 4 riders. So by that argument, any promoter paying the most money is entitled to call the shots. WRONG - Country should always outweigh club. If Greg had turned up and scored 15, the USA would now be in the SWC itself. If I was one of the other 4, I'd be a little peed off. Yes and we were. Having attended this meeting we were very disappointed with the news Greg would not be riding. He would have been back for his Polish fixture. And to be honest I really feel the result could have been different. Taking nothing away from the Fins, and indeed the Slovenians who came back with gusto, it really could have been three teams all going for that top place. Not very happy with the Gino situation. With the greatest respect to any team manager, ou would have thought this was basic knowledge number 1 - young rider - check the rule book. The young man was absolutely gutted but he was included in the whole event - parade and podium at the end. The USA team really did pull out all the stops to ride for each other on Saturday night. Chris and the Fish did their job well, Kenny rode so well but simply did not have the luck you need, so his points dont reflect his effort and Tommy tried but couldn't quite mix it. Very pleased we went to this - it was a very good meeting. And although we didn't speak - I have now seen Tomas (on the podium!!!) - not sure about the colour of your jackets though - bit erm - yellowy, greeny, icky!!! Good comeback guys

I didn't say that they should called the shots, I just said they were entitled to request that he focus on their matches. Ultimately the final choice would be with Greg himself, and he clearly felt that his priority should be Zielona Gora and not America or he would have been in Italy yesterday. Which is indeed a huge shame. You hear lots of stories surrounding the AMA and the older riders and I'm not really sure whether Greg wanted to be in Italy or not. And unless I speak to him myself (which isn't likely to happen) I don't know if I will ever know the answer. There are two sides to every story and I am certainly not about to sit in judgement of him. All I know is that is was a disappointment he wasn't in Italy but the remaining riders have now stepped out of his shadow and ridden for Team USA as a new group of riders and the future of America

The positive side is that Kerr and Ingalls are for sure on the up. Tommy did not have the luxury of European meetings as Kenny did but it was good to see him put some points on the board. For those who say that the USA is not a top 8 nation I would disagree. If we fielded our best team, which in my opinion would a squad of Greg, Billy J, Fish, KerrKat, Ricky and Kenny, we would have been easy winners. It is a matter of better organization and planning on this side of the pond to track that team so that we can reclaim our rightful place in the top 8. Despite it all, you can see how the American spirit touches the heart of the British fan with the likes of Sandie and a few others travelling all that way to support a country which isn't their own. Well done to the brave 4! Edited May 2, 2010 by SteveEvans

Well done to the brave 4! By the brave 4, your meaning the riders and not Matt Davis, Nikki, Lora and myself - the four travelling fans supporting America! And if your talking about the riders - I would say 5. Gino may not have ridden but he was definitely part of the team from start to finish. superguest
Massive shame Gino wasn't allowed to ride and make it a fair competition with 5 riders each. Well done to Finland on their win.

Why? didn't the Yanks read the rules? Until the internal politics is settled, and the US keep declarig line ups they know wont happen, why dont they quit the SWC? Give another country who will put a full line up in? Edited May 3, 2010 by Dekker

Tend to agree.Does p people off big time when they pay out and then the top rider in the field isn't there. And let's face it he probably isn't ever going to do another of these meetings and the States will be a pretty run of the mill team for the foreseable future. It is ok to say "our best team on paper",but if Greg doesn't want to ride......might as well say the same about Slovenia, but Ferjan doesn't want to ride for them ..........Who could take their place though?Ukraine or Argentina or ? superguest
Just for entertainment sake, It's better to have 4 riders in a race. USA speedway has massive competition from all different sports which makes it harder to attract talent. However, Chris Kerr and Ryan Fisher did better than what Scotland would have scored IMO. Dekker
Not saying they wouldnt, but at Scotland would get 5 eligible riders there as could several other countries. It's clear the AMA aint interesting in speedway so if they wont back the team and make the likes of Wells and Hancock ride why bother with it. It's clear the AMA aint interesting in speedway so if they wont back the team and make the likes of Wells and Hancock ride why bother with it. The rules state Gino could not ride so it was major error on the result of the team manager. No way should USA give up its spot - we came third plus with the likes of Kerr and Ingalls we are a nation on the rise, a slow rise albeit. Greg is at the end of his career and the likes of Kerr, Fisher and Ingalls can form the nucleus of the side for the next 10 years. There is more of the same where Ingalls came from and plenty of talent that hasn't even made the Dream Team yet. Aside from heat 1 we did havea rider in every heat as each team member took a joker = 6 rides. Yes, the AMA needs to take this more seriously and now is the time as qualifying is a possibility. Seeing as I personally know most of the board members this is going to be addressed. As far as Scotland taking our spot - as ineligble as Gino was due to their being no Scottish federation. Scottish riders would have to be good enough for Team GB. There is nothing however stopping a Scotland team putting on some challenge meetings versus say, Team USA. Now there's a thought... As it was a german ref Froschauer, you could watch some German videos from Youtube. I have the secretarys filled spreadsheet and even that does not give all the exclusions and falls or heat times, so I guess your out of luck. Been told that there were photographers like ants but no mention of it been taken on video.
