TwoMinuteWarning
Greg has given great service to the USA team over the years. If he concentrates on earning the money towards the end of his career, then so be it.
Midnight_Lady
Greg has given great service to the USA team over the years. If he concentrates on earning the money towards the end of his career, then so be it. That's fair comment to a point. But why is he named in the US squad when it's the same thing every year and always at the last minute he withdraws? I think there are a few more Hancock and Fisher fans around than thee are Katajisto fans The Americas would draw a crowd, the Finns, nobody really cares. Monarchs fans care
Phlipphlopp
If Greg had turned up they might have got through, yeah...but they would still have been completely outclassed in the next round, just as the Finnish team will be. Given Greg's recent history of not racing in the SWC, if I was one of the other 4, I would be more peed off that the US didn't expect this and get someone else over to race. True , but its the bigger picture that pees me off . Look at the great riders from the states that we've had the privilege of watching over the years , and who do they have now ? Just Hancock at the highest level , and no-one else from the states anywhere near his level . Unless the authorities over here let US riders come over here on realistic averages , US speedway is dead . Sorry for airing my grievances on this thread , couldnt be arsed to start a new one . SteveEvans
One of the main problems with Speedway in the U.S. is the tracks don't want to pay the AMA the $500 fee per race to sanction each race. Only Auburn pays that fee, so Dave Joiner (Promoter of the Auburn track) was the only AMA qualified person to be the Manager, but why didn't he recruit the best available riders when he knew that Hancock and Wells couldn't race (and he knew before the Dream Team left for the UK), and how did he not know about the age limit, which DQ'd Manzares? Who the heck knows. I know that Eddie Castro and Tyson Burmeister wanted to race Italy, but Joiner didn't make that decision until after the DT left to go back home, so he nominated Hedden. From what I've seen what's going on here in the U.S., nobody cares! The Promoters are doing all they can to fill the seats at each track (Costa Mesa, IMS, Industry Hills, Victorville, etc.), and can barely afford their Cost not to mention paying the AMA $500. If you look at the YouTube videos highlights of Cost Mesa opening night from last week...the stands are half full. Steve Evans & Co. is doing all he can to revive speedway in the states, but it hasn't been easy for him, to say the least. The Promoters are starting to work together, but is it too little, too late? Time will tell. And Yes it upsets a lot of folks over here that Greg didn't represent, but he's got his own reasons and commitments. There is no $500 per event AMA Sanction fee -its about $50 if I recall. The team manager does not have to be a promoter (it was Richard Child before). I can't speak for other promoters but I have met with USA Speedway (the AMA appointed body to run speedway) many times. The main reason I don't use them is that their insurance policy does not cover what I run at my tracks as I run speedway and mini sprints and AMA only covers bikes / sidecars. This is why I stopped using AMA back in 2007 though it should also be noted that AMA insurance has since doubled in cost whereas the compnay I now use is half of what I paid with AMA. Note that there are 9 board members of USA Speedway. Dave is thhe only promoter on the board and the chairman. Billy Hamill is one of the other eight. American Speedway has its problems but I talk to lots of British promoters and our scene is no more chaotic than anywhere else. For me - I have no pool of money, no sugar daddy just a pure grass roots effort with lots of help that gets the job done to some degree. Also my sole reason for doing the DT is so that one day we are back as a top 6 Nation. We have a long way to go but the progress we make is rewarding all the same. Unless I misunderstood some previous discussion, US riders get to come into the PL on a 5 average these days.... Back in the 80's, they had to come into the BL (i.e. the top league in the UK, when it had all of the World's best riders racing in it, so basically the top league in the World) on a 6 average, and if they didn't get a 6 in their first season, they weren't coming back the next year as they wouldn't get a work permit. All the great Americans from the years gone by met that requirement.... US speedway has fallen on hard times, but I'm not sure you can say that the current rules in the UK are harsh on the Americans....
wooracing
Wow Mike, that is quite a statement and some pretty serious accusations towards Dave. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it, but wow, this is a forum that is read all over the world. You may have some gossip that you hear, but posting it like fact ...hmmmmm good luck with that and in my opinion Not cool dude. Oh, and your sweeping statement that nobody cares about speedway here is just plain insulting to all those folks who do! f-s-p
He has done this now last 2 years? if thats the case replace the US by Scotland, alt least we would get 5 there. Great news for KL, might see a few Monarchs down for the round. Hancock was in Latvia last year, Kalle "almost" beat him then so who know's what would have happened this year... I think there are a few more Hancock and Fisher fans around than thee are Katajisto fans The Americas would draw a crowd, the Finns, nobody really cares. Well Finland won it's qualifier against the teams present in Italy, so we are in the TOP8 of the world in 2010. Live with it!

RHK
Fair Play to Finland! I think they have had the best team to challenge for the SWC for a long time and deserve there place! Good luck to them @ Kings Lynn in July and any supporters that will be there to cheer on their team. Also good to see that the whole team were using the new DEP Silencer, interesting? f-s-p
Fair Play to Finland! Also good to see that the whole team were using the new DEP Silencer, interesting? This is something that our team manager had been working on for over a month with Nieminen and Kylmäkorpi so that we would have the edge regarding the silencer issue. DEP has been tested by both Nieminen and Kylmäkorpi to the extent that they were known to be the best pick. It was also known long ago that the new silencers would be mandatory for this event. Those two heat results are wrong. In heat 7 Nieminen beat Gregoric, so Nieminen scored 12 points and Gregoric 11. And in heat 17 Kraljic beat Kylmaekorpi, so Kraljic scored 6 points and Kylmaekorpi 11 points.
