Tom Farndon - 2010

There are two anniversaries in 2010, the 75th anniversary of Tom's death (30 Aug 1935) and the centenary of his birth (11 Sep 1910)

New Cross Stadium has long gone, so too has his birthplace in Henrietta Street, Coventry

Are there are plans to visit Tom's memorial in St Paul's Cemetery, Coventry, on 11 Sep 2010?

I think it's 30 August. But I will confirm that.

It would be nice if both we're commemorated. Sep 11 too.

I'm reading the book now norbold but only just got to the end of his Brandon days.

I' found it fascinating how he struggled early on to stay aboard his machine whilst he perfected his amazing talent.

Many of the greats found this too, including, more recently Billy Hamill.

Barry Briggs was another prime example.

Yes, the service will be on 30 August. Any ideas what we could do on Sep 11 as well? I'm all for it if we could think up something meaningful. :approve:

Are there any plans for 11 September? Remember his birthplace is no longer standing

Five generations - 20 relatives - of the Farndon family were there including the youngest, four=week-old Beth.

Mike Lawrence brought along a 1940s Exelsior and a 1928 Dirt-Track Douglas. the weather was kind and the ceremony was conducted by WSRA Honorary Chaplain the Rev Mike Whawell.
