Dave Stummings
For those of us who like to reminisce, like me, there’s a real nostalgia moments from Hackney 1976 on facebook. www.facebook/hackneyspeedway. Hackney Speedway is reliving week by week, day by day and in some cases hour by hour meetings from the 1976 season. It would appear that dates are identical to this year and there are updates from all the Hawks 1976 meetings and I’m just loving it! It’s just like speedway updates from 1976, how cool is that! Really is worth looking at, even if you’re not a supporter of the Hawks! If your team was in the 1976 Gulf Oil British League [First Division] it’s worth joining facebook if you’re not already! The teams in the 1976 GOBL are:- Belle Vue Birmingham Cradley Exeter Halifax Hull Ipswich Kings Lynn Leicester Newport Poole Reading Sheffield Swindon White City Wimbledon Wolverhampton
Robbie B
Even though I'm a Dons supporter this is a great idea. Can't wait till 1st November comes round I've joined waiting for the friend request to be accepted. I do have a Wimbledon speedway website that's dedicated to Wimbledon's 1976 season www.wimbledonspeedway1976.co.uk Edited March 26, 2010 by Robbie B

WembleyLion
Ah 1976 at the Wick - great memories none more so than on Good Friday (16 April) - Hackney 23 v 55 Ipswich. Strangely enough they had also met at Foxhall Heath that afternoon and the Witches had only won by 4 points! The Witches often did very well at Hackney and in part this was testament to the great race track at Waterden Road.

As you say, the Witches always seemed to go very very well around Waterden Road, almost like a second home track for some of the Witches riders. I remember in particular, that John Louis and Billy Sanders used to love the place, always scoring reasonably heavy points there. No wonder Len Silver doesn't get along with JL these days, he's probably still smarting at all those defeats..... The Spring Gold Cup... those were the days. I thought there was some great races/meetings post Len Silver. The Kestrels team had some fantastic riders.Even as a South London Dons fan,i regularly travelled up to Hackney in this period. For a number of seasons i hardly missed a meeting i think
