Mimmo
I've known Simon ever since the day he started riding, and whilst I unfortunately wasn't at Newport yesterday, no one will ever convince me that he wouldn't have been focussed, because it's just not his nature. He scored 1-point at Stoke last night.
jollie roger
Joe had a go but Shane was poor to be honest and as a pair they were by far the weakest in the field and finished up 5 points less than IOW as the lowest scorers. With so many notable absentees the field was somewhat dimished but congratulations to Plymouth, they top scored in qualifying and beat Kings Lynn 7-2 in the final so they were deserved winners. That said, they could have been pipped into the final by the Hornets duo who needed a 7-2 in their final heat to go through. All looked good when Todd and Tony gated on the Bournemouth pairing and seemed to be heading out of turn two in first and second but Tony got sucked into the fence and was excluded (sorry, disqualified ) as the cause of the stoppage. With that went the Hornets' chance and Plymouth went through. Tony's frustration was plain to see as he thumped the air fence and trudged dejectedly back to the pits with his head bowed. Not one of Tony's best days but he has been excellent for the Hornets this season so he can be excused a slightly off performance. Simon Lambert was the pick of the individual riders with an unbeaten 16 in qualifying but was beaten in the final much to his frustration. Adam Allott and Nicki Glanz were the other two who showed well today and if Craig Cook had been available for Buxton they would have walked it. All in all, not a very good day's racing with not much in the way of overtaking and the track a bit bumpy and dusty from the off. So, congratulations to Plymouth, they deserved the win.....but, where are you Devils fans?
whippy
lambert was the top rider but apparently had to get off.presumably to get to stoke to ride for sheffield.he even said in an interview i wish they would get on with it.then they run heat 20 before heat 19 to help him out.he lost the final because he wasnt focussed.if he couldnt give full commitment he shouldnt have been there.we were without smarty because he was riding at stoke.no problem with that cuz smarty knew where his priorities lie.this is not sour grapes but ive been to newport 3 times now and the racing is rubbish.this is why newport fans dont turn up.i have been without a team for a long time up till this season but i couldnt watch this stuff every week.helpfull point to newport if you want to attract fans rip the beach up and lay a track that produces decent racing You are so off the mark with Simon. He is very focused and he gives his all each time he goes out. He will be gutted that he and Adam missed out on taking the title. He may have only scored one point for Sheffield but you can bet he never gave up trying in each race. Just as an aside..............why on earth were the pairs held at Newport. Should have been more central for all supporters, Peterborough is ideally situated.

Stoaty
Just as an aside..............why on earth were the pairs held at Newport. They held it because they won it last year. Should have been more central for all supporters, Peterborough is ideally situated. Ideally suited for Peterborough, yes. Not so ideal for Plymouth. Shadders
They held it because they won it last year. Ideally suited for Peterborough, yes. Not so ideal for Plymouth. Presumably Plymouth will be holding the pairs next year, which will mean an even longer journey for visiting fans!!!

Not so ideal for Plymouth. didn't realise Newport had won it last year.......will it be held at Plymouth next year then?? I suppose wherever it is held will it will always be more difficult for some more than others. Edited August 8, 2010 by whippy
ancient mariner
Presumably Plymouth will be holding the pairs next year, which will mean an even longer journey for visiting fans!!! So are you suggesting that Plymouth should never be allowed to win it? Plymouth was in the past named as the venue for the 4TT, but was binned because none of the teams wanted to travel there. RHayes
Bruno You shouldn't be so quick to criticise the Newport track, for Saturday the weather for around the Newport area was supposed to be rain on and off all day. All areas around Newport were wet and where I live, which is about a 5-10 minute drive away from the Stadium, the roads were absolutely soaked with alot of surface water. Bruno, you must realise that the Malletts were in a no win situation because they couldn't water the track in case of more rain, therefore at the beginning of the meeting the track was dusty. Newport's track is better when there has been rain for a couple of days before the meeting along with plenty of cloud cover, therefore the track stays consistent and there's no dust - or a beach as you refered the track to. Bruno, on yor comment that Newport's track is a beach, it doesn't need to ripped up and re-laid, the track over the past couple of weeks has been very consistent and when Somerset were at Newport on Sunday, the times were very quick even when Kim Nilsson came within half a second of the track record in Ht 12. I would also like to say congrats to Plymouth on their win and to King's Lynn for making the final as well, brilliant performance by them.
