willp
Anybody know what the qualification criteria are and who might be the likely teams and riders to take part? The qualification criteria should be the same as the PL Pairs, each NL club can pick two from their top three riders.

philcrumpisgod
Now that we have the draw, does anybody know the format and how the riders are picked/qualify? No Rye House, they'd be ok with Kyle Huges and a n other. Why aren't they in it? Also, any news about the start time? It's on the BSPA site -- -Start time 2.30 -scoring system for the event will be 4,3,2,0 -The action will be keenly contested over 20 heats, 10 in each group, followed by a sudden death final. -each club has the opportunity to nominate two riders from their top four in the July averages Edited July 22, 2010 by NWS

dickiemint
How is Dyer eligible, I thought riders on assessed averages could not be considered. Is this another case of the rules changing according to weather etc.

philcrumpisgod
NEWPORT SPEEDWAY STAGES NATIONAL EVENT By Newport Speedway ~ Tuesday 3rd August 2010 The National League Pairs Championship will be staged at Newport Speedway this Saturday afternoon from 2.30pm with all ten National League clubs competing and the home club defending the title won at the Isle of Wight Speedway last August. On that occasion the Newport Hornets were represented by Tony Atkin and Grant Tregoning. With Tregoning not returning from New Zealand for the 2010 campaign then 17-year-old Todd Kurtz will team up with his 44-year-old skipper in the attempt for the South Wales club to retain the title on home territory. The opposition will be formidable especially in Group A which Newport has been drawn in as the Plymouth Devils pair of Nicki Glanz and Mark Simmons are well fancied by the sport's pundits while the Bournemouth Buccaneers pair of James Brundle and Kyle Howarth are certainly a strong duo. In Group B the Weymouth Wildcats combination of Byron Bekker and James Cockle are experienced despite their comparative youth while Buxton's Adam Allott and Robert Branford were very effective in a recent victory for the Hitmen over the Hornets at Queensway Meadows. Throw into the mix the fact that Nicki Glanz plus the Isle of Wight pair of Nick Simmons and Danny Warwick are ex-Newport riders and that Shane Hazelden(Rye House) was a Hornet at the latter part of the 2009 season and there is nothing predictable in this prestigious national event which will attract speedway fans from far and wide. GROUP A: DUDLEY: Jake Anderson, Michael Dyer BOURNEMOUTH: James Brundle, Kyle Howarth PLYMOUTH: Nicki Glanz, Mark Simmonds NEWPORT: Tony Atkin, Todd Kurtz IOW: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick GROUP B: WEYMOUTH: Byron Bekker, James Cockle RYE HOUSE: Lee Strudwick, Shane Hazelden KINGS LYNN: Simon Lambert, Adam Lowe SCUNTHORPE: Steve Worrall, Scott Richardson BUXTON: Adam Allott, Robert Branford There will be 10 races per group and the 21st heat will be a one-off decider between the respective group winners. The scoring system has been amended to 4-3-2-0 for the four riders in each race. Admission prices are £12 adults, £10 concessions, £4 children aged 5 to 15 with under fives free. The event programme will be £2. Speedway continues at Newport on the Sunday afternoon when the Wasps face the Somerset Rebels in Premier League action from 2.30 with a special admission promotion of £10 for adults with a family ticket available at £25 covering two adults and two children. philcrumpisgod
Jacobs and Hazeldean for the Cobras... Beat Pairs? hmmmm...... Joe had a go but Shane was poor to be honest and as a pair they were by far the weakest in the field and finished up 5 points less than IOW as the lowest scorers. With so many notable absentees the field was somewhat dimished but congratulations to Plymouth, they top scored in qualifying and beat Kings Lynn 7-2 in the final so they were deserved winners. That said, they could have been pipped into the final by the Hornets duo who needed a 7-2 in their final heat to go through. All looked good when Todd and Tony gated on the Bournemouth pairing and seemed to be heading out of turn two in first and second but Tony got sucked into the fence and was excluded (sorry, disqualified ) as the cause of the stoppage. With that went the Hornets' chance and Plymouth went through. Tony's frustration was plain to see as he thumped the air fence and trudged dejectedly back to the pits with his head bowed. Not one of Tony's best days but he has been excellent for the Hornets this season so he can be excused a slightly off performance. Simon Lambert was the pick of the individual riders with an unbeaten 16 in qualifying but was beaten in the final much to his frustration. Adam Allott and Nicki Glanz were the other two who showed well today and if Craig Cook had been available for Buxton they would have walked it. All in all, not a very good day's racing with not much in the way of overtaking and the track a bit bumpy and dusty from the off. So, congratulations to Plymouth, they deserved the win.....but, where are you Devils fans?

bruno
lambert was the top rider but apparently had to get off.presumably to get to stoke to ride for sheffield.he even said in an interview i wish they would get on with it.then they run heat 20 before heat 19 to help him out.he lost the final because he wasnt focussed.if he couldnt give full commitment he shouldnt have been there.we were without smarty because he was riding at stoke.no problem with that cuz smarty knew where his priorities lie.this is not sour grapes but ive been to newport 3 times now and the racing is rubbish.this is why newport fans dont turn up.i have been without a team for a long time up till this season but i couldnt watch this stuff every week.helpfull point to newport if you want to attract fans rip the beach up and lay a track that produces decent racing
Allitt Racing
Bruno You clearly do not know Simon very well. To say he was not focused is way off the mark. Plymouth rode a very hard and intelligent first turn that is why they won. Simon was fully committed to the meeting he scores prove that. It is comments like yours that do damage to riders when clearly Simon was 100% committed hence him being at the meeting in the first place. bruno
apologies to simon if my comments seemed harsh.however i fail to see how anyone could be focussed racing a final then knowing he had to get to another meeting when time was against you.anyhow well done to him in the main part of the meeting.hope he got upto stoke on time.i see sheffield won so it looks like his decision was justified tho i dont know how he got on himself
