BOBBATH Posted March 4, 2010 Report Share Posted March 4, 2010 In the latest issue of Classic Speedway(what a great magazine that is), there is an article by John Hyam about Vic Ridgeon who has now passed away. John mentions Al Sparrey as one of Vic's friends and colleagues-I remember Al he was a real character-I associate him with the old SAL and Swindon. Anybody know if Al is still with us.Hope somebody can tell me-I'm beginning to think all of you other forumlanders are younger than me(even Norbold)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was some extensive coverage of him on another site about six or seven months ago. Sparrey also had some involvement with Yarmouth in the 1950s. As I rider I was happy, unless of course I was falling off! Norbold, Tom Farndon wasn't the tallest rider or the shortest rider, If he was gay it wasn't mentioned in the book. Surely some of these facts should have been mentioned? ....... There again there was no mention in your book on the the classic meetings about the Jimmy Crawford Novice cup meeting held at Sheffield in the early 70's. Surely my only proffessional speedway gig deserves to be in the book. A scintilating 4 points out of 15 should be recorded for posterity! I have two copies of tat fateful meeting and when I find and buy the other 3 in exisistence I will have the market covered and sell them on E Bay and make the sort of money Speedway jounalists make! I have no idea what this post has to do about Al Sparry Hopefully the the moderators will open up a thread called Classic Speedway meetings Norbold missed!!! In French? Contrary to popular belief, I'm not old enough to actually remember Al, but I do know that my parents often mentioned that he could be a little wild on the track!
