This meeting was to top off the training camp at the track during the weekend.

Extraliiga opener at Pori. A lot of falls caused by over enthusiasm. Markku Autio has a suspected broken collarbone after a somewhat idiotic move against Juha Hautamäki on the second bend of the season in heat one. The video link given before is the perfect explanation to what happened, just change the other rider involved (Juha Hautamäki was hit but did not fall) and the date in your head. Good meeting overall, looking forward to the rest of the season.

Kauhajoki speedway last saturday. I'm told the weather was not that good so only 30 spectators. Juha Hautamäki made a new track record in heat 6. I guess it tells its own story about the meeting that the winning times in heat 6 and 7 are 13 seconds a part.

KC at Seinäjoki was ridden on sunday but I dont have the results yet.

 

During the weekend I heard Jere Lehtonen broke some ribs and punctured a lung and Jukka Nieminen broke his collarbone. Small incidents here and there...

Yeap, weather was terrible. Track wasnt in so good shape before the meeting. I would say that the shale on the track is totally wrong type. There wasnt hard surface on the track. You could kick it like 10cm deep and it was just as soft as the top. And rain didnt help it. My opinion would have been to cancel the meeting. And ride it later.. with more racing and spectators. But referee says how it goes. Only top5 riders could actualy race. Rest just tried to go around for 4 laps.

 

On sunday at Seinäjoki. Weather was great and so was the track that had been prepared in the way it should be. One of the best tracks in Finland at the moment. Still some accidents and broken bones and bikes. I think totally last weekend 4 bikes and 3 or 4 riders. One with ribs and lung, one with collarbone, one twisted knee, concussion and one with little concussion.

 

I hope we have full teams on this week's sunday at Lahti. How is the track?

Extraliiga 3/8 next saturday at Lahti has been postponed until tuesday 22nd of June.

 

I dont know about the Lahti track. Kauhajoki has been the same since it started. They did put some clay in it a couple of years ago and it was better for a while. Usually also always very dry and dusty if it's not raining. I've (and MANY others) tried to say something politely and at times just mentioned that its crap... I do wonder how it'll be prepared for the Finnish final!

 

When Hautamäki rode the track record in the opening meeting of the track it was very soft and his line was maybe a bike lenght off the kerb all the way with the back tyre 2-5 centimeters deep in the gravel. So it must have been really soft this time!

In last summers Kaupunki Cup match at Kauhajoki track was good. And there was a little bit hard surface under the dirt. On saturday there was very deep ruts at the first bend and the second one wasnt any better..

Rene Lehtinen has crashed in practise yesterday pretty heavily. The info from the Finnish longtrack supremo Seppänen is that he has a couple of compressed and fractured vertebraes in his back. He lost the axel in his front wheel and flew over the handlebars and in the end to the fence. Luckily (apparently) the was no fear of anything worse and the story I have is that he's out for 10 weeks on scrutches and a corset/back support. Lehtinen uses the donut-style neck support.

 

Forecast for this weekend is pretty moist for most of Finland, so Kauhajoki on both days looks under doubt.

Extraliiga at Kauhajoki rained off. New date later.

 

First round of the 80cc Suomen Cup was won by Henry Ahlbom before Vili Mattila and Niilo Vuolas. Vili Hautala was third. It looks like Jooa Partanen (currently out with a hand injury), Miikka Hyyryläinen, Vili Mattila and Ahlbom are the Finns for the 80cc Euro's and World's. Today's meeting was supposed to be a quali between Ahlbom, Mattila and Hautala for two places. Partanen and Hyyryläinen have already been nominated before. Full results tomorrow, I'm too tired to write them now...
