Bob Kilby Memorial 18/03

Recommended Posts

From Swindon Website:

TRIPLE World Champion Nicki Pedersen is a confirmed starter for the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting which opens the 2010 speedway season at Blunsdon on Thursday March 18th.

The Danish star will line up against Robins' skipper Leigh Adams in a sixteen rider field which will compete over a Grand Prix style format.

With Pedersen not competing in the 2010 Elite league and Adams not part of the Grand Prix series, The Bob Kilby Memorial meeting will provide British speedway supporters a rare opportunity to see Pedersen and Adams race against one another.

The 2009 event attracted a large crowd to Blunsdon, and those in attendance saw Leigh Adams register a hugely popular victory.

Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:

"It's exciting news that Nicki Pedersen has agreed to ride at the Bob Kilby Meeting and alongside Leigh there will also be a number of Swindon riders competing.

More names will be announced in coming days as the meeting is now under eight weeks away"

If it's as good as last year will be well worth it...good weather, Adams winning the final from the back, and a 4,000 crowd. :approve:

Fitting tribute to Kilb.

Hope Lindback is there again :approve:

Agree - Lindback was quality last year - lightening fast in the early heats.

Nicki was especially graceful and charming in the post meeting interviews, after he succumbed to Leigh's sublime second bend cutback in the final.

Would also be good if one or more of the top boys who rarely grace these shores could be persuaded to ride (Emil, Herbie, Rune etc.)

Hopefully Crumpy will be in town after the Ben Fund Meeting a few days before. Would be great to see Lindback and Emil too after Emil had visa problems this time last year. Hopefully Patch could get Rune to come over aswell, maybe butter him up for a place in the 2011 team along side Zagar :P Talk of the devil, hopefully he'll be there too.

should be a good one whoever comes off though.

I hope that future World Star Troy Batchelor gets an invite. And why not get Pavlic along whilst we're at it

Hans and Johno added according to the Swindon website... Pepe Protasiewicz, Renat Gafurov and David Ruud next with any luck! :approve:

Must be about time for a couple more riders to be drip fed through to the fans.....?

Wonder what time it kicks off, given 23 heats on a Thursday?

Last year's event was on a Sunday at 6ish if I remember rightly, and finished around 9pm.

Latest News from the Swindon website...

POPULAR Australian Davey Watt and talented British youngster Ben Barker will ride in the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting which takes place at Blunsdon on Thursday 18 March. The confirmation of Watt and Barker, both established Elite league riders, means just two slots remain for the event which raises the curtain on the 2010 season at the Abbey Stadium.

Indeed, Davey Watt and Ben Barker traditionally ride the Blunsdon race-track well and their inclusion helps bolster what is already an exciting looking field. The Bob Kilby Memorial meeting will be staged over a Grand Prix style format and includes Danish star Nicki Pedersen along with Robins’ skipper Leigh Adams. Joining Pedersen and Adams are International heavy hitters Freddie Lindgren and Hans Andersen. Meanwhile, popular Swindon asset Lee Richardson is joined by former Robins’ favourites Seb Ulamek and Steve Johnston. 2010 team members Simon Stead, Mads Korneliussen, Morten Risager, Gregorz Zengota and Thomas Jonasson all feature in the event.

The current line-up for the event is as follows:

Leigh Adams, Nicki Pedersen, Lee Richardson, Freddie Lindgren, Simon Stead, Seb Ulamek, Hans Andersen, Steve Johnston, Mads Korneliussen, Morten Risager, Thomas Jonasson, Grzegorz Zengota, Davey Watt, Ben Barker.

Good to see that Patch has arranged a "pantomime villain" so that we all have someone to boo! :P

...and no doubt Swindon fans are hoping to give Leigh Adams the traditional panto shout of.."He's behind you !"

So who is the Pantomime villian? Can't see Batchelor in the line-up.

Who will be the last two riders? Would like to see Jason Crump and Antonio Lindback but presumably they have already declined.
