asturmer
We have heard of speedway riders who went to jail! What about those who became policemen after they retired from the Sport. The one I,m thinking of is the tall gangly underrated but highly skilled National League rider for Eastborne and others..... Andy Buck, who is now a police dog handler in the North East of England. Any others out there? Edited January 21, 2010 by asturmer

Any others out there? There was a Canterbury rider who was also a serving policeman - late 1960s early 1970s. His name escapes me at the moment. I think he later became a small oval car racer. BOBBATH
What's the betting this will be a shorter list than the much maligned "riders who went to jail thread"!!!!!!!
sussex bulldog
I can't name another rider but speedway announcer Kevin Coomes is a member of Sussex police.
scarletrider
I'm not sure but was Terry Barclay in the police force? "The Mackem"
tigerowl
I wouldn't swear to it, but I've got a feeling that the Red Star Prague team in Czechoslovakia had links to the state and some of their riders were in the police. One that springs to mind was Milan Spinka but I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong. Also, while I think on, Sprouts Elder, the famous pre-war American, joined the Californian Highway Patrol after retirement. And no, Bruce Penhall doesn't count on this thread. Any others out there? Was there not a different Andy Buck who rode for Teesside, mainly at reserve ? Just wondered as he was based in the North East if it could be him instead. Think the was a guy called Trevor Buswell who rode for non league Brafield, circa 1966, who was a serving PC at the time.

The Teeside Andy Buck may be the same one who went on later to ride for Peterborough from 1979, he would have been a very young reserve at Teeside! The Andy Buck who joined the Police Force rode also at Scunthorpe for one season in 1985 after leaving Eastbourne!! So must be the tall balding Andy Buck, same one?
tigerowl
Just reading some Speedway Star & News issues from 1965-66 and there was a rider competing at Adelaide called Morrie Caldwell. His nickname was 'The Saint' (reason unexplained) and he was a serving traffic policeman in South Australia.
