WembleyLion
I am thinking of taking this one in by flying to Trieste and staying in Udine. I would appreciate any thoughts or advice from those who have been there before and in particular whether it is possible/easy to get any form of public transport to Udine after the meeting or would hiring a car be a better option? If this is the case is it easy to park at or near to the stadium? Are there any places to stay within a couple of miles of the track - most places I have found are a bit further away than this? Thanks in advance of any help.
snapper
We took in Terenzano last year and I will try and answer your questions. I think Udine is the nearest place to stay as the track is next to a small village but just off the Autostrada. If you hire a car there is plenty of free parking in the fields next to the stadium. The fields are all marked up for car parking. I think you would strugle to get any public transport back to Udine, you could book a local taxi to take you there and come back for you I am sure your hotel could sort this out for you. We flew into Milan(only direct cheap flights from Scotland) and hired a car and stayed in Padova(as we were staying on for 3 days and know the area well). the road to the stadium is great and easy to find. If you need any more info just let me know. Ian
Sandie
We stayed in Udine (edge of) and the hotel was lovely. You do need a car, in my opinion, to do this tour justice. You can either drive in or get a taxi into the town. But our problem was finding open restaurants in the evening. Maybe it was a language thing but all we could find were coffee shops and bars. We did eventually find places but it was a bit of a strain. A taxi to the stadium was going to cost £30+ and we were told it would be difficult make sure there was one there at the end to bring us back. After the actual meeting some others in our hotel tried to get a taxi and couldn't get one. Luckily they had connections so returned to the hotel in a riders van and other vehicles!! We flew into Venice Treviso and it wasnt too long a journey. I would however consider going somewhere different this year to stay. But not sure where yet. If you are hiring a car why not try Lido de Jessolo. It's a great seaside resort. Has one long road for shopping about 6 miles long running parallel to the coast. This road is pedestrianised after six at night with masses of restuarants and bars. Unbelievable choice of hotels. and great night life as well . Only a boat trip away from Venice.Verona is nearby too
WembleyLion
Thank you very much Ian, Sandie and Mick. It has helped me to make up my mind to hire a car. Unfortunately I can only stay one night otherwise my daughters will miss school! Kind regards Eddie
Speedwayleics
I am thinking of taking this one in by flying to Trieste and staying in Udine. Thanks in advance of any help. Hi. We went in 09 and stayed in Trieste which is ok for 2 or 3 days but not much longer. We hired a car between the 4 of us for the day of the GP only. Caught bus from airport to Trieste city and hired car in the town. You can park right outside the stadium. you can see the field on google maps. I would recommend taking something windproof. We sat at the top of the open stand just at the start of the back straight and with no protection behind us and a fairly strong cold wind some of where very cold...even in Italy...well it was Sept. Below was taken from http://www.italyheaven.co.uk/friulivenezia...te-airport.html Local buses are run by APT Gorizia: see our links panel for the latest airport timetables in pdf format, which at the time of writing you can download by clicking on "Scarica PDF linee aeroporto". As well as the 51 to Trieste and the urban bus 10 to Monfalcone, they also operate services to Gorizia (bus number 1), Udine (the 51: check you catch the service towards Udine not Trieste) and to seaside resort Grado (bus numbers 1 and 26). Occasional services of the 26 also stop at Aquileia - check timetables for more information. Service bus 51 goes to Udine from right outside airport at the small onsite bus station As for after the meeting...not sure. Best bet is hire car then you can come and go as you please.
