How old do the riders have to be to race in an under 16 event? Or do the riders have to be a certain standard?

Under 16.

Sorry about that mate,I couldn't resist. I think Ellis Perks is thirteen this year but I stand to be corrected, but they deffo have to be of a certain standard (and able to lay a bike down) and have attended training schools before they're allowed to race.

Here in Queensland riders ages vary from 7 to 16, it used to be 9-16 in New South Wales.

The standards vary enormously, so it can be quite tough for the kids starting out who sometimes have to ride against the older more experinces kids.

Riders must nominate for the Australian Under 16 Championships and generally places are allocated based on performances in the various State Titles.

Looking at the lineup Queensland have been given six spots, an indicator of the strength of junior speedway in that particular state, the six were the top six in the Queensland State Championships.

By the way it now looks like the Australian Under 16 350cc Title will be held at Tamworth on the same weekend, it was originally penned in for Kurri Kurri the week before but the Kurri track has not been given a licence yet.

BFD - The Under 16's are not taught how to lay a bike down anymore and are definately not required to do that before they can race (although it would obvioulsy be preferable if they could). They do have to receive eight hours coaching each year before a licence can be renewed and this is annotated in a log book.

I stand corrected, Mr M., but I'd think it would be a pre-requisite.

Bad clash of dates with the 350's.
