Personally, I think that Schlein will be Holder's biggest rival, especially in Gillman. Rory grew up in SA and won quite a few meetings in there. I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to beat Chris in that first round. Batchelor and Ward should battle for 3-rd place with possible distractions from Woodward and Lemon.

Rory's from Darwin, Dexter. How he goes depends on how he's pulled up after that crash at Ippo (after that crash at Brandon, etc, etc).

Naturally as a Territorian I hope Rory does well, top three for sure; my fingers are firmly crossed for him, and we'll see how he goes tonight.

Dave...

By 'grew up' I meant he made his first steps in professional speedway in SA (from what I can remember at least). That's why I am expecting him to be a difficult opponent in Gillman.

Northline in Darwin, where his dad was a champion sidecar pilot, was where he learned his craft before heading to Adelaide. Northline is also where he won his Under 21 crown.

Did I mention I tipped Troy to win tonight? :blink:B)

Mate ive been going to Speedway for a lot of years and that meeting tonight has to go down as one of the best ive seen

Imagine a meeting like that with the type of TV coverage the GPs have.

How was the ride of Alex Davies to knock off Darcy, but then nearly all the races had some close dices.

Take a bow Gillman, top nights entertainment, any spare seats heading to Mildura.

Cheers Chopper

Bruv in Adelaide text me with results, said it was a brilliant meeting, one of the best he's seen for some time. Better without Adams and Crump who always dominated. Swindon's Gathercole rode well. He was sat next to Mrs.Holder and spoke to Leigh Adams and John Boulger.

Well done Troy :approve:

Just a quick question, im not quite sure how this competition works, but why do none of the older riders like Adams/Crump/Watt/Sully etc compete in this?

The old ones need a rest after the European season.

It would be interesting to compile a list of established Australian British League riders who do not participate in this year's Aussie titles.

There's no

1 Lason Crump

2 Leigh Adams

3 Ryan Sullivan

4 Jason Lyons

5 Davey Watt

6 Craig Watson

7 Travis McGowan

8 Shane Parker

9 Steve Johnston

who else?

The Australian Titles are a MUST for those who want to progress through to the GP Qualification series.

BUT - there are obviously the likes of Crump who are there already and Adams who has stepped down from them.

It costs a lot of money to ship bikes and fly home every year and if you feel you have 'been there and done that' then maybe the 'oldies' have decided to just rest.

For British and European riders, if they have had a knock at the end of the last season then they have 4 months to heal but these Ozzie chaps have to ride through it.

Looks like after round 1 that the excitement hasnt been lost by the missing riders, looks like a good competition hotting up.

I thought that was the reason to be honest, but wasnt 100% sure.

Does make for an excellent few rounds though! Will there be a way of watching online?

That would be fantastic if we could watch online altho presume not as we'd all have been watching this one!!

Sounds like a cracking meeting & when ya look at all the Aussies not there like Crumpy, Adams, Sully, Watt etc then it shows the strength in depth that Australia currently have.

As a matter of interest, what sizes are the 3 tracks over there that are hosting a round?? Always think of them as huge but in reality they probably arent!!!

Only written form and not television as far as I am aware, I am afraid.

You missed a beauty! Gillman is renowned for its multiple lines (no, not that sort!) and last night turned on an evening to remember. From the opening tones of master ringmaster David Tapp introducing Aussie Legends Jack Scott, John Boulger and Mr Speedway Leigh Adams thru to the heats, when Jason Doyle showed he's lost none of his track craft, then Lemo showing us why he's graced the top flight for so long, before a spill put him out for the night; Troy's insatiable quest for Ozchamps glory; Chris Holder fighting back after an uncharacteristically slow start; Rooboy's determination, fighting through from the repechage to meke an exciting final only for his bike to fail at the last hurdle; young guns Justin Sedgmen and Alex Davies giving us a taste of what's to come; Pomgolian visitor Josh Auty continuing to grow in stature; Cory (crash through or crash) Gathercole living up to his reputation (and giving his family heart failure as usual); Darcy's undeniable talent shining through, it was a night to remember.

A decent crowd of a couple of thousand dedicated enthusiasts braved the Antarctic Elements (12C with the traditional Gillman Chill factor, man!!!) and were rewarded for their efforts with some first-class racing, both in Seniors, Juniors and Sidecars.

The traditional Gillman Pasties and legendary Hot Dogs proved popular with locals and visitors alike, and the bars flowed copious amounts of amber nectar as we partied on - all in all a typical Aussie Speedway meeting. If I were you I'd keep my eyes on the Gillman website for a DVD of this one, it was a Ripper. The visiting Pomgolian TPTourists headed straight for the souvenir stalls like seagulls fighting over a chip and everyone I spoke to thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of Speedway Down Under, while those who'd returned gave knowing grins - they were already aware of what was about to unfold and mingled with old and new chums in a festive atmosphere - and you missed it!!.

No excuses next time, alright? Give up the tabs, pawn your firstborn, sell the Family Estate - do what you have to do in order to sample the finest Speedway Racing in the land of its birth. :approve:
