colincooke
At last a GP that does the wide spaces of Leszno justice. Thank you Mr Tony Olsson for allowing the guys that do the track get on with it, take a bow & long may that precedence continue. For once i can say i enjoyed watching a Grand Prix. Nobody really dominated this meeting, which made it all the better entertainment wise. Have to say though, Jason's move in Heat 10 was pure class. Loving it, loving it, loving it. SCOTLAND1314
How much does it cost for a Leszno season ticket? Any left?
Pirate Nick
What a breath of fresh air that was. Just goes to show if you let the local track staff get on with it you get good racing. On a Poole note good debut from Chris Holder and well done Zorro on your first GP race win.
Star Lady
I enjoyed that and I haven't said that about a speedway meeting for a couple of years or so. I agree it maybe wasn't quite as spectacular as Tatum and Pearson were making out, but given some of the dross they have had to try to make sound exciting over recent years, you can sort of understand them getting carried away. SCB
An absolutly fantastic meeting on a fantastic track, well done everybody involved! Watching at home there was just a totally different atmosphere... usually its a case of filling in the scorecard job done after the first lap or so and feeling completely let down at the end of the meeting when you realise you've wasted 3 hours. Instead it was entertaining and definately a great advert for the sport. Similarly you felt a different atmosphere in the studio with their jobs being made much easier as the racing did the talking. Well done to everybody, finally SGP is a product we can be proud to say is the pinnacle of our sport. Lets hope rounds 2-11 are as good. Can't argue with that at all. As someone else mentioned, the openness of the meeting made it good anyway but the racing was top draw. Glad Hampel didn't win, would have been an injustice for one of the most boring riders, probably the most boring in the GP's, to win what has to be one of the most exciting GP's for a long time. spin king
Absolute cracking Grand Prix, and something I have been waiting for sometime. Surely Ole Olsen should be banned from all speedway tracks in the World, as soon as he leaves the Grand Prix the meetings get 100% better, and big Well Done for Tony Olsson for doing the blindingly obvious. Also enjoyed listening to Gary Havelock in the studio, never afraid to speak his mind and been brutally honest. As for the Brits, Well Done Bomber Harris, a semi final place and 1st Grand Prix up into 8th place is a decent start, Tai looked out of sorts and never got going, but his first Grand Prix, and I am sure that he learn from the experience. End of the day the best rider won for me overall, but plenty suggest that this could well be a very competitive Grand Prix series and I for one are looking forward to the next one, a long time since I could sauy that. salty
Good start to the season, plenty of overtaking and certainly better than any of last years GP's. Slightly spoilt by the massive imbalance in the gates - total points from 1 & 2 = 91, from 3 & 4 = 47. Only one win from 3 and just two from 4. gypilgrim
Entertaining meeting. The track was nearly as good as Scunny last night.
Dogstar
Watched the whole meeting and thought it was decent. Some good races and close scoring which kept it interesting, but some of the comments on this thread are making out it was the best thing since sliced bread? In comparison to the crap we are used to on Sky this was an improvement and a decent advert for the sport, but to rave about it seems a bit ott to me. LisaColette
Enjoyed that GP, good racing throughout! Lets hope this continues! Agreed! Excellent GP, loved it from start to finish. The final was shaping up superbly before the crash (speaking of which, going by their comments afterwards, was I watching a different race to Havelock and Nicholls!?) so it was a shame that was cut short but what a GP on the whole. Crump brilliant, as was Hampel but I expected a good one from him and I thought Kolodziej was very good aswell. Bomber had a good first 2, was nowhere in the next 2 and then did well enough to just get through to the semi-final where he was never really in it. Tai was on the pace at times but didn't look to have the same speed or control as others, but I'm confident with time we will see big improvements. Also want to mention Holder who, in his first GP, gave a good account of himself with some tough racing and I think we can look forward to some good GPs from him in the near future. So a good, well-prepared track is all the GPs needed. Hopefully with Tony Olsson in, we can look forward to this all year Oh, and as always I loved the commentary. "I'm glad it's only a minute long, I couldn't cope for 2" Classic Kelv Yep, thought Holder gave a good solid effort in his first GP
Steve Shovlar
Holders mistke was to swap to another bike for a heat. Cost him very dearly and a likely semi final spot. he did show some great fighting potential though and will be in the mix at most GPs. Not going to get close to be challenging for the title just yet but certainly right in there. Felt sorry for Tai. Clearly way off the pace and out of his depth. One season then gone? I hope he does much better at the next GP but reckon the British GP will be his best shot at points. Zorro's race win was great. Showed he is not way off the back of the pack. 4-5 points a meeting is about what he can get with thye very occassional better score. Having fun with nothing to lose. His problem was in his first 3 heats he made some silly mistakes that cost him but i think with more experience and maturity he won't be making these mistakes. it's all part of his learning curve and he can only get better. BigFatDave
He had problems didn't he? Anyone with SS supporting them has got problems, Trees! BTW, did you enjoy this one, for a change? I thought it was a ripper, although some dramas Down Under with the broadcast meant that the interviews were totally out of sync with the vision - like about five minutes behind! The riders did full justice to a great track; well pleased with Chris Holder in his debut, he'll learn, as will Tai, who'd better have a look in the shed for better machinery quickly or he'll be well off the pace. Most of the Continental-based riders seemed a bit rusty at first but plenty of lines at Leszno gave them the opportunity to get into the groove again. I would have thought KK would get the nod at wildcard, but Janusz Kolodziej certainly didn't disappoint, unlike AJ who was well off what we've come to expect. Great meeting and a great ad for Speedway. Go CRUMPY!!
Icicle
Mr SS seems VERY hard to please (unless it's Poo winning!). I must admit that I was slowly finding my love of Speedway fading due to the garbage that had been shown on Sky so far this season...UNTIL NOW! WOW! Now that GP was what I know & hope & expect from Speedway!! More like that please (only next time Gollob to win!!)
Searley
What a fantastic meeting, a real credit to the sport. Fingers crossed the rest of the GP's can live up to that standard.
Wolfsbane
Strangely that meeting will, in the final analysis, have done Tai the world of good. Fantastic race track and he couldn't get anywhere near 'em. Playing with the big boys now. iris123
Was certainly far better than the usual GP stuff, but not sure i agree it was fantastic. The commentary team seemed on a mission to hype it up.One race the guy was over-excited but was actually saying something like "well that race didn't develop into the race i thought it would....." Good to see Harris do ok after the season Coventry are having i thought he was going to struggle like Tai did.As someone else said AJ should have done better.Looks like him and Hans are never going to really set the GPs alight.Definitely some great racing at times, that you could watch over and over
John Hannibal Thomas
It was good to see a track follow Newcastle's lead regarding track preparation. I think what let it down was that gates one and two had such an advantage over three and four, hence the riders who got more rides from them having higher scores. Crump was lucky as usual, right place and right time to get an easy route through and win. There is still time for BSI to call in Robbie Best if they want truely great racing. Damon
What did anyone else think about the european grand prix last night ? I thought it was excellent, superb racing with lots of over taking and only one crash all night when Emil had no chance.. roll on Cardiff and all the other Grand prix's..
