Leszno Gp - 24th April 2010

Recommended Posts

hi there, two of us did the train thing last year and it worked out well. we got to leszno in plenty of time for the gp and arrived back in wroclaw at about 1am, train journey if i remember rightly aprox 1hr 30 mins anyway i have a link for the polish rail service here http://www.intercity.com.pl. or email this guy he helped me out no end last year Polrail Service-Jeffrey Dobek [jdobek@polrail.com] i ordered the tickets online and they were sent to me in the uk so i knew i had the tickets before i travelled. i also find it best to travel first class as it is more comfortable and the second class carriages can get busier with locals on the journey back to wroclaw and rail travel in poland is cheap as chips

Just a bit of info about trains. Am hoping to visit Leszno for GP and mentioned it to colleague who is Polish and how likely was it to get a train after the meeting. She said that the rail service is gearing up for a strike over there (she was there for Christmas) and that already some routes are suffering disruption. From her experience, she said its likely to get worse and that often they cancel routes altogether.

Don't mean to be alarmist and it could well be that it is in a different part of Poland or strike may be averted/sorted by April or the rail company will ensure trains for that meeting as there is little else to put Leszno on the map and they will support. I realise its three months away and things may change, but hope info is of use.

PS - flying from Liverpool to Poznan for just under £40.

There are trains running almost every hour from Wroclaw/Poznan to Leszno in a daytime and there are a few running back to Wroclaw/Poznan after the GP so I would not worry at all as for this. Poznan-Wroclaw (Leszno is almost exactly in the middle) is one of the busiest railways in Poland, I have done journeys there and back dozens of times so you can trust me.

Closer to time I can paste here all necessary time tables of Wroclaw/Poznan - Leszno trains with the train types etc... - all the info you may need to buy a ticket.

The wild card and reserves for the opening round of the 2010 FIM Speedway Grand Prix season has been confirmed. Wearing the number 16 race jacket at the FIM Otomoto.pl European Speedway Grand Prix, on 24 April in Leszno, Poland, will be 26 year old Polish rider Janusz Kolodziej.

This is the first time Kolodziej will ride in a Grand Prix as a wild card, he has previously been a track reserve at GP’s held in Poland and is a regular first team member of the Unia Leszno club.

Kolodziej’s compatriots, Damian Balinski and Maciej Janowski, take up the number 17 and 18 track reserve berths respectively. This is the third consecutive year that 33 year old Balinski is a track reserve at the GP in Leszno. Maciej Janowski (19yrs), currently holds the record as the youngest rider to participate in a Grand Prix when, at 17 years and 17 days, he took his place in the main body of the field as replacement for the injured Niels Kristian Iversen at the 2008 FIM Final SGP held at Bydgoszcz.

I have three tickets for sale, located in Grandstand Turn One in row VII. Face value is 190 Zlotys which is about £44. Originally there were seven of us going but now there's only four.

Offers welcome and I will split them if you require.

Apologies if this shouldn't be posted, here or anywhere.

Thanks Richard

Will the Grand Prix still go ahead if the air restrictions are still in place>. Will all the riders get there?. Chris Holder and Chris Harris both have League matches at Coventry and Ipswich on Thursday evening. Perhaps both of their teams will use a guest. I would presume that if you had bought a ticket and cannot get there then that is your bad luck.

I think it would be good if perhaps the organisers made a statement at this early stage to confirm the event will take place regardless of the flight situation in order to allow people to make back up arrangements. As it's in western Poland it's not so bad.

Booked to fly out on Thursday, but I can see the car being used. Really don't fancy the drive, but needs must.

Rico

Bernie Ecclestone says if the restrictions to air travel stay in place the next Formula One in Spain will be cancelled and they will hold another one in China. They need 6 Boeing 747 to transport all the equipment from one country to another. He even joked that they would hold all the Grand Prix's there if necessary

How long I wonder will it be before there is an announcement confirming that the Leszno Grand Prix goes ahead.

They've just been talking about the situation on the radio, here in Poland, and they said: "No chance the volcano ash cloud will leave the Polish airspace till next week ... Very likely no flights landing/taking off from Poland this week"

So I'm sorry to say this but it doesn't look good at all ...
