spiderweb
Well caught up with Bryn and his mate huddeled together near the new wind break fence in wind rain and Gillman Cold (you know what I mean BFD) I hope this friday night Jack Young Cup will be better with a forcast temp of 33 c! From the Gillman web site' Solos and Sidecar share equal billing at the third meeting of the season at Gillman Speedway this FRIDAY NIGHT (4 December). Although the Jack Young Solo Cup is the feature event, with some of the World's best Sidecar riders again in action it is hard to argue the Sidecars will not be the main attraction. Leading the way will be FIM Track Racing World Champions Mick Headland and Paul Waters, five-times Australian Champion Darrin Treloar from Sydney, and his Adelaide-based passenger Justin Plaisted, current Australian Champions Mark Mitchell and Tom Golding, Mark Plaisted and Sam Harrison, Trent and Jesse Headland and Mildura's Byren Gates/Michael O'Loughlin who will compete in a series of Sidecar Stars' Scratch Races with a final for the top four point scorers. However, there will also be a further 8 Sidecar races for the support riders who will be out to press their claims for a berth in the South Australian Sidecar Championship which will be held at Gillman at the end of the month. The Jack Young Solo Cup will be contested by twelve riders over twelve heats, plus a final for the highest three point scorers and the winner of a semi-final for the next four highest scorers. On first glance the favourites appear to be the local rider Robert Ksiezak, Merbein's Justin Sedgmen, and Englishman Josh Auty. 22-year-old Ksiezak is a past winner (in 2006) of this event and looked sharp in his first up meeting here last Saturday night, despite the wet track. Likewise Sedgmen was in fine form with an unbeaten run at the opening meeting and despite being only 17, he has a proven record here having won the Golden Helmet meeting in his senior debut twelve months ago. Another rider who performed well in the Golden Helmet was Shepparton's Jake Anderson who was runner-up to Sedgmen, so he'll fancy his chances of at least a final berth. We are without the defending Cup holder, Aaron Summers, this year as he has decided to brave the ice and snow of a Scottish winter instead of returning home, but we do have last year's runner-up Arlo Bugeja, and like Anderson he must fancy his chances of reaching the final four. But the rider they might all have to beat is the Englishman Josh Auty. Although he has only just turned 19 and is on his first visit to Australia, the teenager from Mirfield in West Yorkshire has been cleaning up in Queensland in recent weeks including victory in the Queensland Under 21 Championship. Auty was the British Under-15 Champion in 2004 and 2005, and then as a senior rider he won the Conference League Championship with Scunthorpe in 2006 and 7. He now rides with Premier League Sheffield and doubles-up with Elite League Coventry. There will also be events for Under 16 350cc Solo riders, featuring Arthur Sissis, Robert Medson and Victorians Sam Anderson and Braydon Munro; plus 125cc Junior Solos and 250cc Junior Sidecars on the infield track. Two of Jack Young's fully restored bikes from the 1940s will also be on display in the pit area. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and racing will start at 7.30 p.m. Admission is Adults: $20, Age Concession: $15, Student Concession: $10, Children aged 10-12: $5, Children Under 10: free, Family (2 Adults and 2 Children): $45, Programme $5. Full bar and catering available. Gillman Speedway is located on Wilkins Road, Gillman. The full list of entrants is: Solos (14 events) Josh Auty (England), Justin Sedgmen, Jake Anderson, Ryan Sedgmen and Mitch Goodwin (Victoria), Damien Koppe (Queensland), Samsurray Pigram (Western Australia), and Robert Ksiezak, Arlo Bugeja, Robert Branford, Ben Turner, Ben Hatcliffe, Adam Briggs and Damon Whelan (SA). Hatcliffe, Briggs and Whelan will contest a Qualifying race for the final place in the 12-rider line-up. Sidecars (15 events) Mick Headland / Paul Waters, Darrin Treloar / Justin Plaisted, Mark Mitchell / Tom Golding, Mark Plaisted / Sam Harrison, Trent Headland / Jesse Headland, Byren Gates / Michael O'Loughlin (Vic), Rick Stephens / Dean Hobbs (NSW), Andrew O'Rourke / Jason Mayes (Vic), Mark Radford / Steven Stagg (Vic), Tim Bichard / Derick Thomas, Shane Evans / Alan Gale, Brenton Dwyer / Jason Whitfield, Daniel Puddy / Chad Herbert, Keith Bichard / Adam Pfitzner. 350cc Junior Solos (4 events) Robert Medson, Arthur Sissis, Sam Anderson (Vic), Braydon Paver (Vic) 125cc Junior Solos (6 events) Luke Mitchell, Jake Mitchell, Dakota Ballantyne, Ryan Hatcliffe, Seth Hickey, Cooper Riordan (Vic) 125cc Junior Solo Novices (practice rides) Jack Norman, Tom Adams, William Coombes 250cc Junior Sidecars (5 events) Luke Mitchell / Tom Adams, Jake Mitchell / Dakota Ballantyne, Kane Turner / Ryan Hatcliffe, Robert Medson / Kelsey Gepp, Lara Wedge / Tegan Hartwig
BigFatDave
Is it warm yet? Not coming down until it is! It should be a ripper at Gillie tonight, then on up to Millie for the season opener? I hear Bryn's heading to Qld to check out young Darcy in the Titles next week. Has anyone warned Trackman to hide his boat?
