Who wouldn’t. :P:D

Here is one for you lot: An actor that appeared in Western films and that was actually in real life one of America's most highly decorated soldiers. No, not that type cast actor - Marion Morrison, that never saw any kind of real action apart from learning a script.

A real life hero, not the comic book type....

Audie Murphy. He certainly did have a distinguished Service career.

Awards:

He is authorized the Medal of Honor; Distinguished Service Cross; Silver Star with First Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device and First Oak Leaf Cluster; Purple Heart with Second Oak Leaf Cluster; Legion of Merit; Good Conduct Medal; Distinguished Unit Emblem with First Oak Leaf Cluster; American Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one silver service star, three bronze service stars and one bronze service arrowhead; World War II Victory Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar; Expert Badge with Bayonet Bar; French Fourragere in Colors of the Croix de Guerre; French Legion of Honor, Grade of Chevalier; French Croix de Guerre with silver star, and the Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 with Palm.

Used to love Monday nights on BBC 2 when i was a wean . 8 o clock it was the High Chaparral - Big John Cannon , Buck , Blueboy and Manolito - brilliant stuff . When it's run would finish we would get hit with Lancer , which wasn't that good . Then it was Alias Smith and Jones which was superb . Happy days :approve:

One of the best Westerns on TV was ‘Gun Law’ or (Gunsmoke) With Marshall Matt Dillon (James Arness) . It started with the viewer looking down the barrel of a Colt 45 being fired into the camera. 'Pow -smoke'.

There was also Dennis Weaver as ‘Chester’. ‘Mr. Dilllon, Mr. Dillon‘ , :D

Wyatt Earp - was also good TV with Hugh O’Brian. But did Wyatt really have that Butline Special and hit people with the long barrel.? Some doubt... :o

Don't know how you can mention High Chaparral without mentioning one of the sexiest women on tv at the time.Big Johns wife and Manolito's sister. She was a cracker. She wasn't in too many scenes, but i always waited for those bits :approve:

And Alias Smith and Jones was also superb tv

She certainly was a good looking Lady - I agree. :approve:

Anyone remember 'Gunslinger' with Tony Young or 'Branded' with Chuck Connors. Wish some Channel would run repeats of these all shows mentioned on here. 'Gunsmoke' and 'Wagon Train' with Ward Bond and Johnny Horton were classics. :approve::approve:

Ian, I think you'll find it was Robert Horton who was in Wagon Train, Johnny Horton was the country singer.

Apart from many of those listed I always liked Wells Fargo and Have Gun will Travel and for those of us of a certain age the Gerry Anderson effort Four Feather Falls>

Mayb it hasn't stood the test of time, but i always avidly watched The Wild Wild West.Never seen the recent-ish film though. But the series was a great mix of western and James Bond style spy story. Then again i used to love Hogans Heroes as a kid,but when i watched the repeats some years later it seemed crap

Ian Martin-sadly Ian I am a worse technopeasant than you as I don't know how to post a link. But hope this helps- enter youtube on google or youtube.com on google. That'll take you to youtube homepage-there is a window at the top where you can type stuff in. You may have to register first can't remember. In that window type in TV Western Themes and a whole bunch of stuff comes up-then you just have to click on the clip you want to watch.Hope this helps but if not perhaps someone in forumland more adept at computers than me can describe this better.

"Rolling, Rolling,Rolling, Though the streams are swollen, keep them doggies Rolliing, Rawhide".

Gil Favor and Rowdy Yates(Clint Eastwood).

Linda Cristal in High Chapparal

Bonanza: Little Joe and Horse Cartwright.

The Virginian: remember it being on TV, can't remember much else about storylines setting etc.

Was! Rin Tin Tin, a western series seem to remember watching when very young he was an alsation, I was scared of big dogs then.

Got to remember Champion the wonder horse if only for the title music song.

Of course the best ever cowboy was Four Feather Fours, absolute classic TV.

But my absolute favourite was Ivanhoe!.

Bobbath,

I viewed the Range Rider Film sites and was ready to order Volumes 1-5 but discovered that my UK DVD Player

may not be suitable so I emailed them to ask for the spcifications.

They came back very quick and said that The format required is 'Region 1' and they doubted that mine would be suitable.

Any thoughts?

Best wishes
