Mark Jones! :)

Recommended Posts

We got a Broadford meeting in !! It rained quite a bit in the days leading up to the meeting but the track turned out to be extremely good after being a bit on the heavy side during practice. I was glad to get a meeting in at all but the racing turned out to be better than usual. Speedway is strange isn't it ?

Points

Ty Proctor 3,3,3,3 = 12

Mark Jones 2,3,3,2 = 10

Dakota North 3,2,2,1 = 8

Mitch Goodwin 2,1,2,2, 7

Jake Anderson 0,2,1,3 = 6

Beau Evans 1,1,1,1 = 4

Matt Jones 1,0,0,0 = 1

Bob Stoneham - absent

Heat 1 North, Goodwin, Matt Jones

Heat 2 Proctor, Mark Jones, Evans, Anderson

Heat 3 Mark Jones, North, Evans, Matt Jones

Heat 4 Proctor, Anderson, Goodwin

Heat 5 Proctor, North, Anderson, Matt Jones

Heat 6 Mark Jones, Goodwin, Evans

Heat 7 Anderson, Goodwin, Evans, Matt Jones

Heat 8 Proctor, Mark Jones, North

Ty Proctor was way too classy and his third to first ride in heat 8 was the ride of the day by a long way. No disgrace for Mark to finish second against riding of that calibre.

In Mark's first heat he followed Proctor home although Proctor finished quite a distance in front. Mark's second ride was a belter as he took Dakota North up the inside on lap 2 to record the win. His third heat he led easily although he found it hard to shake Mitch Goodwin, and in the final ride all you could do was applaud the way Proctor fought back from third after messing up the start.

Mark's next meeting is the Victorian championship in two weeks time. I would usually do a live update but this time I won't because it's a day meeting which will start at about 2am UK time. I'll post results on here when I get home from the track (about breakfast time in the UK) so it will be something for you to wake up to !! To be honest the four favourites on paper look to be Proctor, Cam Woodward, Cory Gathercole and Jason Doyle but don't be surprised if Mark pinches some points off them, he is riding well. On todays form Proctor would be my pick.

Cheers

Good to hear Mark is back racing, I was in the pits at Weymouth in 2006 when he was riding in a challenge meeting, he had Chris Holder with him as his mechanic, he looked smooth on the bike then and when I spoke with him seemed really keen to ride over here full time. It was disappointing when he stopped riding but glad to hear he is back and looks like he hasnt been away, going by his scores from Aus.

Victorian state titles results follow. Mark placed 5th (by virtue of second in the B final) and one spot out of the main final. His score was really hurt by a "did not finish" in his first ride after he had been comfortably in the lead. In his second ride he was in front for three laps before James Holder pulled off the pass of the meeting to get by and pinch first. To be honest though the riders who had ridden in the UK in 2009 (Proctor, Woodward, Sedgmen, etc) were just that little bit sharper when it mattered. No way should Mark be too disappointed though, he was well on the pace and it was a good opporunity for him to find out exactly what level he is currently at.

Jason Doyle and Cory Gathercole were late withdrawls which didn't overly please the organisers

see that Mark has nominated to ride at Gosford (NSW) this coming weekend against the likes of Holder x 2, Masters, Poole, Penfold, Kurtz, Davies, Skidmore, Sweetman etc etc.

That's as good (if not better) a field as last week and he should certainly know he's at a race meeting against that lot. I can't go (it's 700 miles away), hopefully I can get some results from one of the locals

thanks to lunchy from the Un-official KL forum (: for the updates

Good to see Newport are attracting decent newcomers to the club, unlike previous years.

Instead of the likes of Truminski, Mroz, Kujawa ( ), Vedel etc we have landed the likes of Nilsson, Mellgren, Kurtz and now Mark Jones.

I think Jones will be a top NL rider and will almost certainly be pushing for PL in 2011. :approve:

Seems a surprising move but we'll look after him at Newport, we thought the world of his brother too and lets hope he has a really successful season.

He's a bit of a hunk as well, Tanya; doubtless there'll be an increase in the gate once youse Sheilas get an eyeful!!
