Bavarian
Decent Idea TBH, Think its Cape Town, where they have built a brand new stadium, about 500 yards away from the Sharks Rugby Stadium, the new one is 55000 all seater, yet the Sharks isnt far from that capacity, costing 250 million pound to build, what a waste, the African people arent happy as hitting there pockets. Could be a decent move, as would be cheap to get the stadium for a night or 2. This stadium You refer to is not in Cape Town, but in Durban. And You may be surprised to know that the old stadium which had to make way for the brand new one, has staged speedway in the past, in fact as recently as the 1980's and early 1990's! That stadium was the old King's Park aka Kingsmead Raceway, where Buddy Fuller & Co ran sprintcars stock cars and solo speedway! Durban has some tradtion with Speedway. It is a great holiday resort. If SA does get a SGP, it should go there! But I agree, it is not likely to happen in the next five years! And it would be quite a risk for the promoter! Snyper1010
Just out of interest, lets just say this did happen would that not mean that Byron Bekker would have to be the Wildcard as South Africas number 1 rider?
MattyHart
Wouldn't have said so.
Snyper1010
Wouldn't have said so. Who else would it be then? Isnt the Wildcard supposed to be someone of that nationality?
MattyHart
Don't thinkso no, for some reason I remeber Pavlic (maybe?) being a WC in the Slovenian GP.
Humphrey Appleby
Isnt the Wildcard supposed to be someone of that nationality? Doesn't have to be. In fact, a non-local wildcard has been named on a number of occasions, usually when the host country already had several riders of its own in the GP. Snyper1010
Ok must have just been coincidence. Just i dont pay overly much attention to which wildcards are in each GP and their nationality. Just seemed that anytime i did conciously look at the two they were always of the nationality of the GP
jeff...
Who else would it be then? Isnt the Wildcard supposed to be someone of that nationality? No necessarily, the wildcard is a rider the organisers feel will be beneficial to attracting a healthy crowd, Was not Jason Crump once a wildcard for the British GP

iris123
Robert Barth was a wc at Prague one year. But that was when there were 2 or maybe more wildcards. But didn't Hans Andersen get a couple of wc's the year he was left out and then won a GP? Ghostwalker
wasn't Hans Andersen given the WC for Målilla in 2006 at first but then when TRick pulled out Hans was in full time from Målilla and PK was the given the WC?
