Ben91
Plans are rapidly falling into place for the Ace of Herts individual championship (kindly sponsored once again by the Sainsbury's Staff Association) which will bring down the curtain on the 2009 season on Saturday, October 31st (7pm). In addition to the Silver Ski Rockets, the 12 rider field will include the likes of British Championship runner-up Edward Kennett, fellow former Rocket Steve Boxall, British U-21 Champion Lewis Bridger and exciting Newport Wasp Jordan Frampton. The final race will be followed by the huge end-of-season firework display that traditionally sets the seal on the Rye House season, after which the end of season rider awards will be presented in the Long Bar. Admission for the Ace of Herts is: Adults £15, Seniors £13, Children FREE. Current line-up, not in rider order. 1. Chris Neath 2. Joe Haines 3. Luke Bowen 4. Linus Sundstrom 5. Paul Hurry (TBC) 6. Olly Allen 7. Ben Barker 8. Edward Kennett 9. Steve Boxall 10. Lewis Bridger 11. Jordan Frampton 12. Kyle Huges (Yes Huges not Hughes, it's what the programme said ) I have to admit I do not get as excited about the Ace of Herts as I used to. Changing from the 16 Rider 20 heat format moving to the 12 Rider and a final has made the event a lot less prestigious in my opinion. Considering the field could have included riders such as Danny King, Tai Woffinden, Davey Watt, Stuart Robson, plus more this event should be a lot better. I'll be there for my last speedway fix of the season but bitterly disappointed that we won't get a "real" individual meeting Edited October 24, 2009 by RocketBen1

I think the season goes out with a whimper rather than a bang. Has gone downhill since the twelve rider format was introduced. Plenty of decent riders around looking for a final payday. I go for speedway and not fireworks so again a disapointing end to a frustratingly disapointing season irrespective of the result against Workington. Just back from Rye, the last place is going to be Paul Hurry. Mostly unispired field, i hope if Ollie Allen or anyone else isn't fit then Len can get somone interesting to look at, Taylor Poole comes to mind as somene who's still around in the UK who has impressed and Rye fans haven't seen yet. Ben91
It'll be interesting to see Kyle Huges, i've never heard of him before, but it says he will be there in the programme. It's lucky really Kyle Hughes isn't racing too otherwise there could be a lot of confusion On a Serious note, why not stick in Halsey, Courtney, Strudwick and Mason, wouldnt cost much and would give us a real individual meeting, plus if the rumors about Magic's retirement are correct, wuld be a nice way to send him off as a Rye House legend. crazysue
Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the updates site? If so, could you please either leave a message here or send me an email or pm. Thanks Edited October 31, 2009 by crazysue

But please no loud noises in the pits. A few fragile riders after the Bees dinner dance. If there are updates I think I may just check them out. Should be an interesting afternoon. Ben91
Weather was terrible this morning but has cleared up now, looking quite bright outside. Should be good for the track if anything. No updates on the line-up, if there is no Olly Allen I do fully expect to see a Cobbler, shame as riders such as Stuart Robson had reportedly offered their services tonight, I'd rather see Robbo than Olly, let alone a Cobbler! torpointfanatic22
Have just heard Kyle Hughes finished 3rd in this, behind Eddie Kennett and Olly Allen. Dont have any more details at this stage but well done to Kyle, he will be a great 3 point signing for the Rockets next season!!
davidba
Just back from last official action of the season. Big well done's to Kyle Hughes and Jerran Hart who made the meeting worth watching. Pretty shoddy for firstly Barker to drop out(Presumably with a hangover from the Coventry awards night if you read other threads!), then Bridger to give up after one race(Craig said he was feeling jaded!), and when Schramm was also out through injury(Get well soon) there were no reserves on hand to take their places, so most heats had only 3 riders and only 2 riders dropped out from the semi's!! Jerran's 3 heat wins after two lasts got him a deserved semi final place(Sundstrom and Hurry missed out) and Kyle got through just but then made a great gate in the semi. Bowen fell off in the final to give Kyle the third place and Olly Allen got the jump on Kennet and held on to win. Surely Len is lining up Kyle for a reserve berth for 2010? Roll on Sittingbourne on the 15th November and hopefully some four man racing!

Roll on Sittingbourne on the 15th November and hopefully some four man racing! Not the Promoters fault that Ben Barker didn't show. Did you miss the massive crash the Bridger had in the first heat? I think there was a little more to it than pulling out after one ride feeling jaded. Easy to knock the boy and i'm not surprised he pulled out I also thought that despite the bad crashes the track did well and was better than it has been in months. Not sure why you don't mention the efforts of Luke Bowen who was excellent until his trying too much gifted Hughes a third place in the final. Clearly the best crowd of the season and if the Promotion let themselves down anywhere it was no meeting reserves, The queues in the chip bar, sausages and fish running out at heat 6 and no boxes for the chips to be put in meaning much smaller portions in the styrofoam plates they used. The extra quid I suppose went towards the fireworks which were of no interest to me but most people stayed so they must have wanted the fireworks i suppose
