Humphrey Appleby
The crowd of around 37,000 was the biggest at a speedway event for around 20 years... until exceeded by a GP at Cardiff. Was the attendance at the 1989 World Final in Munich not bigger? I don't know if real figures were ever published, but the 80,000 capacity stadium looked more than half-full to me. I wasn't at Chorzow/Katowice in 1986, but I'd have thought that must have run it pretty close as well. It must be said though, few of the other venues used after 1982 could actually hold 37,000 - Norden, Vojens (twice), Bradford (twice), Wroclaw, Pocking etc.. Probably only Gothenburg and Chorzow. Ghostwalker
Bad planning I reckon.. We won't be able to go to this meeting in 2010 as it doesn't coincide with the school holidays in the UK or in Sweden. This would mean that our friends from Gotland possibly may not travel (well one of their family will definitley be there) I also wonder about the weather at that time of the year, whereas the date at the end of May is usually quite good. Its a real shame as Gothenburg is an ideal option for a short break, with some speedway thrown in for good measure. the only school holiday in May is in the second full week (19) where the kids (and many parents) have 4 days of (May 13th - May 16th). After this the kids will be in school for four weeks before they the summer break starts. so the GP should at least be held on that weekend instead of the current.
