London Riders Championship

Hopes for a revival of the London Riders Championship at Lakeside look to have foundered. Their latest details of meetings until the end of the season give no listing for an event that was, at one time, much vaunted by the Hammers mangement for the fact it was returning to the sport. There was a Post about its return elsehwere on the BSF but I have been unable to trace it.

Hmm, as you say this 'event' has been blanked out of the pages of this year...: hmm, just like Lakeside had NEVER made a massive thing about saying they were putting it on...!!

For the life of me I can't understand why they said they were staging this, made a big deal about it and then, er, DIDN'T...

Might I suggest you two look under the appropriate section of this forum i.e. the one dealing with individual meetings?

Hmm, why...: does it answer the question, why did they make such a big deal about having this meeting and then, er, without further word simply not bother to stage it..?

Why on earth should we now believe that they'll be staging it next year..

I know what you'll say, they can do what they like...: but it wasn't either speedyguy or me who suggested that Lakeside stage a LRC meeting..; it was them. I'd have thought they might have explained why they, in the end, decided they actually couldn't be bothered..

I also note that they now say this Friday is their last home meeting.. That's weird, when I was there the other Monday I could've sworn they announced numerous times that they'd be a challenge match vs. a Rye House 'Select' on Friday 16th..?? That bitten the dust without a by your leave as well..?!

Why not telephone them during office hours (the number would be in your programme from "the other Monday") and put your queries to their general manager who I feel sure would be happy to answer any queries you might have Parsnips old fruit, and correct some mistatements in your posting above.

For example I can tell you the situation regarding the initially proposed home match against Rye House on October 16 was fully explained on the Hammers website yesterday - I take it that you didn't read that first before typing out the above this lunchtime?

I raised this because earlier in the year much was made by Lakeside Hammers of the revival of London Riders Championship, together with a promise (?) it would be held at the end of this season. That time has arrived yet no reason has been given why the sport's oldest individual event is not being brought back (at least in 2009). And why the early end of the Lakeside season at Arena Essex - the other motorsport at Arena Essex has a couple more meetings on its schedule before the end of this year.

As you say, a very early finish of the season.. When they were going on about the Rye House match on the 16th. it was 'doubling'as their Presentation Evening which itself had been cancelled.. Wonder what's afoot at Arena..?

And with actually THREE 'spare' Fridays in October why no thought about staging this London Riders Championship on one of these..??

I agree. No LRC - yet it was a much lauded event set for Lakeside earlier in the year. And wasn't there criticisms of those who tended to think it might not take place?

Otherwise as these dates confirm, it's business as usual for the "other motorsport" at the same facility -

ARENA ESSEX

Sunday, 11 October Rookie Bangers plus Ministox Essex Championship & Lightning Rods Supreme Championship

Sunday, 18 October 2L.Bangers Olly Moran Memorial plus 1300 Stock Cars Supreme Championship & Super Bangers Essex.

Sunday, 25 October @1pm Rookie Bangers plus Group A Hot-Rods Supreme, Outlaw Hot-Rods & Brisca F2 Stock Cars W&Y

Sunday, 1 November @ 1. 00pm The Unlimited Open Banger Meeting of the Year plus Gigantic Fireworks Display

Blimey, Parsloes & Speedyguy on the same side - how scary!!!:lol:

Haven't Lakeside said they will stage the LRC in 2010, though? They've simply run out of time this season, who knows what constraints they have to staging speedway there - after all the landlords always have the final say.

All the best

Rob

Not too my knowledge. When was this?

Slightly off topic I know, but I haven't been to Lakeside bar the U21 final this season.

Are they still doing the junior second halves and mini meetings before the main meeting??

I remember Douglas and Cook being big on this, but it seems rather quiet this season!

No - well not any of the times I've been there this year...

As that notable scribe Mr. Scott felt worthy of putting into print (but then he does have a rather scatter-gun approach to facts.. ) I actually used to turn up just for the junior races when it was Mark, Aaron, Jerran, Marc etc.!! :approve:

So after the press release telling us they were going to sent out a press release, the press release that most of us said at the time was far too over hyped has proved to be even more over hyped than many of us who said it was over hyped ever thought it could be. LOL

One reason being put out for the end of Lakeside's season is that the stadium will not be available. As I mentioned previously, it seems the stadium will be operational into November.

Lakeside first brought up the subject of a 'revived' London Riders Championship. They DO OWE AN EXPLANATION as to why it is being conveneintly forgotten. Not even a line like "plans to stage the London Riders Championship this year have been put on hold" or even "plans to stage the London Riders Championship have been abandoned."

As Lakeside first initiated the championship's return, surely they should give their reason for not staging it...when it appears the venue is still available?
