speedway_dan
Would love to see this prestigious event return. Excellent meetings in the past (Matousek doing Havelock and Screen, Chris Mortan, Peter Collins etc) and one that would bring many of the sports top riders and supporters from the North together for one meeting. Why did Sheffield drop it? Could Belle Vue or preferably Sheffield bring it back so we can the top stars in the North doing battle. squall
Top stars in the North? So from the Elite League we have BV....
boxerbob
To much home track advantage for Ricky, so they pulled the plug. They should have it at a neutral track to give everybody else a chance. Edited October 5, 2009 by boxerbob
Killer Cat from Mars
I really miss Belle Vue not being in the Northern Riders Championship - it used to be one of the highlights of the year - watching PC, Mort, Ivan Mauger, Shawn abd Kelly Moran, Kenny Carter et al all vying for the title. I'd love to see Belle Vue host it and invite Sheffield, Workington, Newcastle and Scunthorpe riders(plus others I've probably forgot!) . Come on the Northern clubs, let's get this sorted! bendover
Like the Scottish clubs? No.. Your reasonably young so ask your father, True Northern riders was the best yorkshire & lancashire could throw together. No Halifax, No Hull, No Bradford(Halifax in Disguise) Thats why it died a death. The idea of throwing it open to teams outside this area never worked. Certaiinly the jocks and Berwick never considered the originals as northern anyway!

Must admit to only being able to recall meetings with the clubs I mentioned, some great battles with riders like Collins, Morton, Carter, Mauger and they certainly seemed to take it as a serious title to win Edited October 6, 2009 by bendover
kaiser
Cannot see this one coming back, indeed it was a great meeting, with lots of top riders, remember Shooey winning it in 82(i think!!!! i was only 7 at the time!!!!) for Sheffield he was bloody awesome(probably the first time i watched him race ). Great races over the years with PC and Mort, and some guy from Halifax who was pretty rapid as well!!!!! This meeting was treated as a big deal for the winner as well. It was a classic event, that needs to be brought back to whet the appetite of us speedway buffs who like to see a good old fashioned head to head with the best that the north can offer. Such as: 1.Ryan Fisher 2.Kevin Woelbert 3.Shane Parker 4.Wullie Lawson 5.Andre Compton. 6.Michal Makovsky 7.Kenni Larsen 8.Rene Bach 9.K.K 10.Ty Proctor 11. Ben Wilson 12. Ricky Ashworth 13. Josh Auty 14. David Howe 15. Magnus Karlsson 16. Carl Wilkinson That would do for starters

SUPERACE
This used to be one of the best meetings of the season, and home track advantge was never an issue, would love to it back but it would need a big prize money to make it attractive for the riders. Yeah you are right there, it's all down to sponsorship at the end of the day. Wish I could win a few quid on the lottery and the rest would be history
