Steve Shovlar
It doesn't mean though that it should be scrapped or banded about between other clubs like has been suggested, this is Newport's life blood meeting for god sake. Not only that this was Tim's meeting & in honour of Tim, Newport is where it should always remain. Rubbish. It should be passed about to another clubs to have a go. Newport might make a tidy sum out of it but so would other clubs. Stick the names of clubs that would like to run this meeting into a hat and draw out the lucky one. Newport started this meeting and most speedway fans see it as being theirs. Just because you had a reasonably successful meeting at Poole last season when you had the meeting on loan you now want it to be taken from Newport! tigers forever
well we went, it was bl**dy cold and not very good racing but we knew what to expect before we went so we were not disappointed, good weekend away all in all and no riders hurt which is even better

So for the sake of argument Steve, say Poole took a gamble on a mid-winter meeting and it was a sucess, and their idea. I take it you'd be quite happy to loose it would you ? wjm
All i've read here , was the same in the aftermath of the Scunthorpe meeting , is how people were freezing - the track was poor - the entertainment value was nil . Is it worth carrying on with these types of Winter meetings if they are so bad . I'll be honest , i find March bloomin cold enough and there is nothing or nobody who will get me to stand and watch speedway at the beginning of January unless it's in Australia . Just wondered , on the back of loads of critisism , are these meetings worth the effort ? Sounds like Armdale in June ....not for much longer though . stressed
I enjoyed the day and catching up with so many people, ok the racing could of been better but how many times do we hear the same said at numerous other tracks during the 'season'? Good on the promotion and all the helpers and riders for getting the meeting on in the adverse weather conditions and a big well done to all the supporters of 'Speedway' who turned up on the day
beercellar
yes i agree stressed, was a good meeting, even if some of the racing was a lil naff ( only 2 in some heats ) but rem we dont usualy have speedway in these condictions, so well done to the lads for puting a show on for us fans that went. i finaley warmed up on 3rd bend where the sun was. nice size crowd as usual. leave meeting at newport, in honour of tim

Its called the NEWPORT CLASSIC so I say let it remain at Newport its their baby ! Especially in memory of Tim !!!!!!!! I'm not Shadders but I'll answer. Some racing. Don't say it's not possible, it has been in the past, at Poole and Newport. It's called the New Year Classic. Newport is not in the title. Some people mention Newport started this meeting, well technically, Tim Stone started it, not the Malletts so why should they benefit any more than someone else? newpwasp
No, keep it in Newport! its not as a prestigous event like the Premier League Individual, Pairs, and 4TT Chapionships, which SHOULD have a different track each year (should be held at an elite league track so know one has home track advantage)! it belongs in Newport and should stay in Newport. dickiemint
Exactly. Time for it to be passed around. It should always be held at Newport and renamed 'THE TIM STONE MEMORIAL NEW YEAR CLASSIC' If it hadn't been for Tim it would never have happened as nobody else would have come up with the idea. Pinny
I remember Tim Stone explaining to me and my father that no other club would host the event because of the threat of bad weather, as well as most clubs not being able to run the meeting. Tim took the chance on hosting the meeting year on year. Poole had it last year no problems with that as when they were confirmed to be running it, Newport's future was still in doubt. If Poole are that desparate, apply for the December or Febuary meeting instead. Newport started the event, no body else wanted to know until last year.
