Classic At Newport

Recommended Posts

It never ceases to amaze me the folks that come on here whingeing - I thought this was a forum for Speedway Fans? They can't even wait for a meeting to finish before they vent their bile in their attempts to belittle the hard-working folks, promoters, track staff and riders alike, that actually get off their backsides, get their hands dirty and attempt to put on a show. Maybe they should take up another sport? :approve:

Well done to the WASPS crew for providing some out-of-season entertainment for the speedway-starved Pomgolian public.

As for the whingers - I've never felt good about wishing misfortune on anyone, but in this case I'll make an exception.

You know... I wondered how long it would take for someone like you to come here and defend (you know, someone who wasn't at the meeting to see how things actually went on the day)... Wonderful how you can tell that there was "entertainment" from 1000's of miles away (you call a meeting that was freezing cold with 20 heats, numerous reruns and barely 1 pass "entertainment- give me some of what you're on) WE'RE ALL SPEEDWAY FANS OR WHY ELSE WOULD WE HAVE TRAVELLED!!.... The whingers ARE NOT trying to belittle anyone... In fact, I DO credit Newport for trying but last year at Poole, in the same kind of cold climate, was a far better show!! (Hell, you've even seen Wanna say it was poor and you know how far he'll go to lick Nick Mallet's rear end  )

Someone like me - you mean someone who doesn't whinge at the drop of a hat? I was at a meeting that was freezing cold on Saturday night as well, don't hear me whinge. B)

Always the Negative Waves, Man. Can't see anything in your postings praising the Newport Promotion or the Riders. Always the Negative Waves.

Full credit to Newports track staff for getting the track racable... in fact I have to say its the best I seen the track looking in all of my 5 visits there!

Bloody hell it was foooooooooooking cold I spend a good 30/40 minutes queing for hot food by the time I got back to my seat in the first section of the stand it was cold so it promptly went in the bin! Thank God I took a couple of flasks!

I thought the line up was fairly good for this time of the year I would imagine most of the Prem league riders are in Oz at home or racing there ! So a big thank you to those riders who turned up and also a big up to those that stepped into the breach at the last minute !

I honestly don't know what you folks really expect for this time of the year, me I just wanted my fix of the roar of the bikes and the smell to tide me over till March !

You think that's whingeing I'm doing  (Dietbowers knows when I REALLY do whinge)... Nah, that's called just expecting a wee bit more for money than what I got, that's all... I'd count myself as entertained if the £13 was for the wonderful noise of the bikes and methanol fumes, but no... I was just wanting to see more than one pass after the 2nd bend and a race that wasn't won from the gate... If you think that's whingeing, I quite frankly don't give a damn...

p.s. What was your freezing cold then may I ask (did I read it right when I saw a balmy 12 degrees or something close to that  ... 'spose that is like the Arctic for you poor Aussies)...

This has been the coldest winter in Newport I can remember in all honesty.

Must admit the meeting was poor but as I have said, with such cold weather there aint a lot you can do.

Sorry about lack of match report. Will be on this evening without fail!

Wanna, I looked out for someone wearing T-shirt and shorts, but couldn't see you.

All the best

Rob

Yep. Dietbowers, nice to meet you for the first time yesterday - and thanks to your contribution to the SRBF collection around two seconds later.

All the best

Rob

No problem young man, just don`t make a habit of taking my money off me

It cost me a packet yesterday, numerous pints of `Bow,a roast dinner for the gravy swilling swamp donkey a.k.a. the Moose, and the Brick, plus a tenner for the Moose for winning our speedway fantasy competition.

Must admit it was a lot more cheap last year when they had the Classic at Poole

That's a big ask, lisa-colette, getting colin cooke to put his money where his mouth is!!

About as likely as you not being an arse I suppose.

Probably the most boring meeting I've been to in 25 years of watching speedway, and that's from a Rye House fan!! Don't think it was quite as cold as last year at Poole, although I couldn't feel my toes by the end ... To cap it all we went to Nando's in Watford on the way home .. No Fanta, No corn on the cob, no red pepper dip, no ketchup and they had strawberry frozen yoghurt when the sign said vanilla!!

.... On top of that, you forgot to add that the first dish I got for the yoghurt was dirty

Very boring, very tedious meeting today.. Irrespective of whether it's cold and would affect the track... the standard of what Poole put on was 10 times better!!

Only two stand outs to me today were Boxall (yes, without the H... take note some people ) and Mellgren.

I felt sad watching Roynon today though... thinking of where he was before his terrible accident to what he's got to try and get back to... I really hope he can get the confidence back and get back to the standard he was at

depends on what you call entertaining, all done and dusted after the 1st / 2nd bend bar one, persoally I don't call that entertaining! IMO heat 5 was the best race of the afternoon...close and challenging for the lead but that was it.

track like a ploughed field, only one line round the 3rd / 4th bend - much like the sheffield meeting and that was c**p to start off with!

winner superb out of the gate bar one when off the outside and couldn't get across, deserved to win.

Doesn't take a lot to please a Newport fan clearly...

I must admit,I do agree with Bandits4eva.

Credit to all those that made the effort to get it on.All the riders who turned up.All the fans for turning up.

Sadly it was a poor meeting.

I have two man grumbles. The length of time it took to run it.The Referee,Dave Robinson, didnt seem to have urgency to keep it moving. Also agree with others re tapes exclusions etc.

The other was the time it took to get food. When I joined the queue, early on,I was fifth in line, yet still took nearly 20 minutes to get a cold bacon roll.

Same queue even for drinks.Very poor.In the end,I went up to the bar to get a coffee, but no milk or sugar! Got it,went along to main foof bar on 1st turn, same there.Very poor on freezing cold day.

Do I know you? What's the matter, mate, someone pinch yer bowl of milk?

I don't believe I've had the misfortune of meeting you, s'pose I should count me blessings, eh?

BFD responds to all these apparent whingers yet has no response to my reply to the deliberate personal dig in the 1st of these quotes.

Obviously knows i am correct to berate.

You stood or sat in the wrong place, just what did you expect from a JAN 3rd frozen meeting, you just cant please some people

No matter where I stood or sat, the view is still the same. Expectation of a Jan 3rd meeting, not high but given the statement by the promoter on the Wasps web site "The weather and track is perfect for today" perhaps it should have been higher.

In summary, we saw a speedway meeting - that is true so credit there to the promotion for putting the meeting on (rewarded by a very good crowd), however, entertaining it wasn't! However, I have also seen the same level of entertainment at Newport during the normal season!

And before the replies come back to say why bother, next year I'll try and manage my son's expectation downwards and not go. All in all, just my view and depends on whether you want to see a meeting or an entertaining meeting!

I thought that the track held up very well today considering that we have had one frost free day in over two weeks with plenty of snow to contend with, not ideal conditions for preparing a track. I know the track staff have worked tirelessly to try and get a meeting on today let alone get the track into a position where it provides entertaining speedway. I think credit is due to these people who have been there all over the Christmas holidays, I know where I would of prefered to of been.

Out of interest, why was Nicky Mallett saying prior to the event there was no frost on the track and the track was 'perfect' ?

It was ride-able, no question about it, but no race-able.

Brilliant offer but I we assumed that they ripped up your programme to keep the voucher so for us it wasnt an option. We needed to keep our programmes in one piece.

There was a space for the manager to sign, which they did and left the cover intact on our programme.

All i've read here , was the same in the aftermath of the Scunthorpe meeting , is how people were freezing - the track was poor - the entertainment value was nil .

Is it worth carrying on with these types of Winter meetings if they are so bad . I'll be honest , i find March bloomin cold enough and there is nothing or nobody who will get me to stand and watch speedway at the beginning of January unless it's in Australia .

Just wondered , on the back of loads of critisism , are these meetings worth the effort ?

I find it very sad when people are critical when it is very difficult to put on a show this time of year.

Judging by the amount of people there many enjoy a meeting this time of year.

Do you really think other tracks want to have a meeting this time of year, your damn right they do.

wherever they hold it I will be there.

Najjers birthday announced as well, plus I met his girlfriend, oh it was worth it??????????

Paulco, I wasn't that cold yesterday - I was wearing a T-shirt, three sweaters, a leather jacket and my bright yellow SRBF gear on the outside - a total of 6 layers.

All the best

I wasn't being critical , i was merely asking the question - is speedway in the winter months really feasible ?

If people went yesterday or at Scunthorpe and enjoyed themselves , then fine . But i've just read so many negative comments about both meetings .
