Bandits4eva
Doesn't take a lot to please a Newport fan clearly... So I've learnt very quickly... I wonder what he'd be like if he saw more than one pass in a home meeting

Think you just need to take off those Waspie sunglasses of yours and realise that!! If you care to look at my other postings I am often slated by Newort people for my views, but a meeting run at this time of year with all its temp, problems ice , frost snow etc, The riders that turned up gave the best they could ,if this is not good enough for you then I suggest you stick to summer meetings

Fine.... The track.... Not conducive to racing.. I'll say it again... regardless of what conditions were like, there was a far better racing display at Poole last year (gawd, I'm having to sound like a broken record here now).... FACT..... Watching Niels Kristian Iversen (who shouldv'e pished that field in all honesty) having to play the follow the leader game wasn't good... You think what you like... I'll think what I want.... I KNOW I'm right!!
tanya
track like a ploughed field, only one line round the 3rd / 4th bend - much like the sheffield meeting and that was c**p to start off with! I thought that the track held up very well today considering that we have had one frost free day in over two weeks with plenty of snow to contend with, not ideal conditions for preparing a track. I know the track staff have worked tirelessly to try and get a meeting on today let alone get the track into a position where it provides entertaining speedway. I think credit is due to these people who have been there all over the Christmas holidays, I know where I would of prefered to of been. There were riders that were prepared to have a go at producing some racing but you could also see that some of the riders didn't want to end up injured and put themselves out of a few months racing and not risking anything. Well done to Steve Boxall he was not rated to win this meeting but proved that he deserves a team place somewhere and his race with Doolan in the final was well contested, you could see Doolan having a go so all credit to him. For the Newport supporters it was great to see and meet our new rider Anders Mellgren, not on his own equipment he looked like a useful signing. Good to have him here. The meeting ran too slowly for my liking, other referees would of been pushing the pace of the meeting on. Some people had travelled a good distance to get to the meeting and had a long cold journey back too. Lots of Sheffield supporters about and I felt particularly disappointed for them because of the withdrawal of Ricky Ashworth, a long way to come to find out your rider won't be there. I didnt like the format of not allowing the riders back in the rerun for tapes offences it was detrimental to the meeting. I'm sure Mads Korneliussen wasn't too pleased when he missed a ride, the supporters pay their money to watch the 'stars' in these meetings not having a junior put back in which just caused the meeting to take longer. Good to have the meeting back at Newport though and to meet up with lots of friends in the off season.

I agree that it may have not have been the most exciting meeting but considering the conditions of the past few weeks it was a tremendous effort by all involved to get the meeting on. It did seem obvious to me that some riders weren't prepared to try terribly hard but some riders did and I think on the whole it was a good meeting. Sandie
Should of used your £5 off voucher from the programme to go Frankie and Bennys just behind the McDonalds as you come out of the stadium. Bloody lovely in there, best bit of the afternoon that was. Have to agree. Brilliant offer but I we assumed that they ripped up your programme to keep the voucher so for us it wasnt an option. We needed to keep our programmes in one piece. Hopefully it was a good marketing idea but could, maybe, have been thought through a bit better. Pizza hut near home was our answer. I enjoyed the day but it did give the impression of a practice day. How the Poole meeting and the Newport meeting can be compared is silly. You dont compare Elite and Premier during the season so why do it for an individual.

You dont compare Elite and Premier during the season so why do it for an individual. Wasn't really a comparison I was trying to make initially (no comparison could honestly have been made) other than I said the meeting held for the New Year last year at Poole was 10 times better.... My opinion, like it or lump it... I know others agree!
Sandie
Its the only thing i can compare it to, as i first new years meeting i went to was at Poole last year.. Thats fine. But if you ask regular Newport Classic fans they will say that this was a poor meeting. Others have been a lot better. But I still dont think you cant compare the two (Poole and Newport) on an equal basis.
Diesel
I think we all need to leave our cars running 24/7 for the next year to try and speed up this global warming lark. Perhaps the track, and most of the ground in the area, won't be frozen.
BobC
I must admit,I do agree with Bandits4eva. Credit to all those that made the effort to get it on.All the riders who turned up.All the fans for turning up. Sadly it was a poor meeting. I have two main grumbles. The length of time it took to run it.The Referee,Dave Robinson, didnt seem to have urgency to keep it moving. Also agree with others re tapes exclusions etc. The other was the time it took to get food. When I joined the queue, early on,I was fifth in line, yet still took nearly 20 minutes to get a cold bacon roll. Same queue even for drinks.Very poor.In the end,I went up to the bar to get a coffee, but no milk or sugar! Got it,went along to main food bar on 1st turn, same there.Very poor on freezing cold day. Pinny
This has been the coldest winter in Newport I can remember in all honesty. Must admit the meeting was poor but as I have said, with such cold weather there aint a lot you can do. Sorry about lack of match report. Will be on this evening without fail! Silver Bee
You dont compare Elite and Premier during the season so why do it for an individual. Do you not read this forum? It happens all the time! Of course you can compare 2 individiual meetings regardless of what track they're at. Poole was easily the best winter meeting I've been to. Scunthorpe last week was probably easily the worst. The line-up at Poole last year was excellent, unlike the 2 meetings this winter.
Main Man
The late withdrawals were something no one could have predicted. Jerran Hart got as far as Reading Services and had to turn back home unable to make it despite doing his best to. We cannot cater for illness and I spent hours and hours on my phone trying to locate every rider still in the UK to see if they could ride but the main problem was that most did not have any equipment ready yet and Will Lawson was snowed in as well!! I must thank all those who at the 11th hour stepped in to ensure we had a full line-up and at least one reserve. Except for exclusions we had four man races right to the end --so thanks to all the lads for battling on on the day when things were not perfect taking into account the winter elements. The track staff had worked throughout the holiday period on the track having to battle against the weather and deserve a medal!! Dietbowers
I thought it went o.k.,but what`s with having no bar on the second bend,me and the Moose had to keep walking around to the bar on the home straight. It was a wrong`un .......
BigFatDave
About as likely as you not being an arse I suppose. Do I know you? What's the matter, mate, someone pinch yer bowl of milk? I don't believe I've had the misfortune of meeting you, s'pose I should count me blessings, eh? It never ceases to amaze me the folks that come on here whingeing - I thought this was a forum for Speedway Fans? They can't even wait for a meeting to finish before they vent their bile in their attempts to belittle the hard-working folks, promoters, track staff and riders alike, that actually get off their backsides, get their hands dirty and attempt to put on a show. Maybe they should take up another sport? Well done to the WASPS crew for providing some out-of-season entertainment for the speedway-starved Pomgolian public. As for the whingers - I've never felt good about wishing misfortune on anyone, but in this case I'll make an exception.
