BOBBATH
With the sad passing of Louis-as before Cyril Roger is the oldest surviving World Finalist, Split Waterman is second-so who is the third oldest-I reckon it must be Fred Williams(who is also the oldest surviving World Champ.)?? Do others e.g. Norbold agree??
tigerowl
I agree. Freddie at 83 is the oldest surviving champion, Â After that would come Ronnie Moore and Ove Fundin, both 76 with Ronnie a couple of months older. Â Then it would be Briggo who is 74. tigerowl
Is Phil Clarke still alive? If so, he is slightly older than Split but not as old as Cyril Roger. Â If Phil is no longer with us, I reckon the third oldest surviving World Finalist is Danny Dunton - born in May 1924.
norbold
I agree. He must be older than Ove? Is Phil Clarke still alive? If so, he is slightly older than Split but not as old as Cyril Roger. If Phil is no longer with us, I reckon the third oldest surviving World Finalist is Danny Dunton - born in May 1924. Phil certainly is still with us. I'm hoping to see him in a couple of weeks.
star ghost
Yes, Phil is still with us. He is still the same modest bloke as he always was. Phil was a star among the Stars As far as I know Olle is still around as well. Mrs Grosskreutz is now 100 so is our eldest "Star"
tigerowl
What about Olle Nygren? He must be older than Ove? Â He is, but that post was relating to oldest surviving World Champions
star ghost
In that case I have posted wrongly then as I thought we were talking "oldest world finalist" here. Never mind Phil, Olle you are both still fantastic blokes
norbold
He is, but that post was relating to oldest surviving World Champions Sorry, I misunderstood you as the thread itself is about Oldest Surviving World Finalists.
tigerowl
Sorry, I think the mistake was mine in not reading the first post properly!!!
BOBBATH
Thanx folks the thread was indeed about oldest surviving World Finalists so it sounds like 1-Roger 2-Clarke(I didn't know that) 3 -Waterman 4 -Dunton. Interesting stuff on the oldest Champions also.
tigerowl
These, I think, are the top 10 surviving World Finalists. Apologies if I have included any who are no longer with us. Â 1. BOBBATH
Thanx v. much Tigerowl-was under the impression that Arthur Payne had passed- tho may be wrong.
tigerowl
Arthur was the one I wasn't sure about, plus Dick Bradley (?) Â Â
chunky
If Arthur Payne is still with us (and I haven't been able to find any reports of his passing) he would actually be 86 now, and not 85 (born August 1923). Â Steve

He is very fit and well and is a spokesperson for pensioners here in WA. He still has a lot of fire in him when speaking out for the rights of Aussie over 65,s! Vonny
Arthur was the one I wasn't sure about, plus Dick Bradley (?) Hi Dick Bradley is thankfully alive and well and is at the Abbey every week, regards Yvonne (his daughter.)

BOBBATH
Just heard from Reg Fearman who confirms that Arthur Payne is still with us.
mickthemuppet
What about Olle Nygren? He must be older than Ove? Phil certainly is still with us. I'm hoping to see him in a couple of weeks.  Ole Nygren is 80 this month and he is having a big party in Stockholm which will be full of Speedway riders. I had an invite , but the trouble is they will all be speaking Swedish which is hard to understand and I also had a prior engagement. BOBBATH
Ok then it sounds like the list is 1. Cyril Roger 2. Phil Clarke 3. Split Waterman 4. Arthur Payne 5.Danny Dunton 6. Dick Bradley 7. Fred Brand 8. Freddie Williams 9. Chum Taylor 10.Eric Boothroyd. However can somebody confirm this by adding birthdates as a couple of these gentlemen are listed as having the same age e.g. Chum and Eric; Dick and Fred; Split and Arthur. So until we know birthdates we won't know the actual order. Sorry to be a nerd (or"anorak" as you Brits say) about this!!!!!!!.Incidentally the only survivor of the 1949 World Final(sixty years ago- hard to believe) is now Cyril Roger. For the 1950 Final(assuming Mike Erskine has passed away-BTW anyone know the answer to that?)- besides Cyril , Freddie is still with us, as are Split,Ronnie Moore,Danny Dunton and Arthur Payne. Long may it remain this way.
