BOBBATH
Just got my much anticipated autumn issue-what a great magazine it is. I noticed in the articles on Nigel, Louis and Vic their CMA's(Calculated Match Averages )are given for the years before 1965-which I thought was the first year they were calculated(by Brian Seery). This must mean someone has done a lot of historical research(these stats are credited to Matt Jackson and Hugh Vass). I think that is a great contribution to the history of speedway.THis leads me to a question-can anyone tell me who topped the NL CMA's from seasons 1946 thru 1964, and the PL CMA's 1960 thru 1964-this would be great to know-65 on I have the data. This may also throw further light on the potential GP World Champions for the years it was a one off!!. Anyway it was great to see the stats in the Classic Speedway mag-could it indeed (the CMA champions) be the subject in a further issue?? Jim Blanchard
Also, there is an article on Bobby Andrews. In that article there is a photo of Wimbledon from 1964 which includes a rider called Keith Whipp. Its so far back in my memory I am struggling really to some extent but I am sure (maybe due to my tie up with Ken Brett and to follow that on a bit) I can vaguely recall traveling around the tracks with that young man for a short while. Raleigh and Poole (the only time I was at Poole) come to mind, though I am sure he rode for Poole but not certain by any means. Any info on him anyone? norbold
Keith Whipp played a part in the best meeting of all time - the Wimbledon v. West Ham Knock Out Cup Quarter Final Replay on 14 August 1965, about which I have often waxed lyrical. He was drafted in to the Wimbledon team in place of Trevor Hedge and scored two points. star ghost
A very comprehensive answer from Matt on this subject. It also shows just how good Ronnie Moore was with 5 years in the top place. This run was then rivalled by Ove Fundin who did even better due to his wonderful World title record of rostrum places for ten years Edited September 21, 2009 by star ghost
