noggin
Have you been watching the same GP's I have? Nicki P has spent more time on the floor than on his bike. At least Crump has managed to remain upright most of the time. Crumpy's good enough to win this year..and I'd like to see him eventually challenge Rickardsson's tally (I don't think he'll do it back to back, but I think he'll come close) On the other hand, I still can't stand Gollob since I saw the way he rode in the beginning of his career. Nicki's spent so much time on the floor,he could have a career as a Rug
Blazeaway
How Crump must be rueing a silly move to come back to England. £££££££££££'s
Tim Templeton
Looking on the SpeedwayGP website, I see the crowd capacity of the venue is only 4000. There were loads of spaces all around, so on that basis, a reasonable estimate of the attendance would be 2000. That is pretty dire. Any comments? gary moore
Best GP of the year from a racing point of view...................pity about the dust though............... RP was you watching the same event as me? it was Rubbish!! but then as a Poole supporter you would be used to the blue groove etc??
Pollyanna
Loved the Sky commentary - Lap 2, turn 4 = "Hans Andersen is looking brilliant here & what a fine victory this would be for the Dane - Yes its nice to see Hans out front..... Here comes Gollob - Wow - how much speed is he carrying there".......... Mr Pearson & Mr Louis jnr, never forget a speedway heat is never over until the chequered flag - especially when TG is one of the riders Excatly what I thought. When will they ever learn that Speedway is unpredictable? Annoyed me that they were looking ahead all the time, trying to assess Emil's scores in each of his forthcming heats instead of concentrating on the race that was going on at the time. Grrrrr! Gemini
Hi Gem's, I must have been blinded by Gary's obvious homage to the 70's to have thought about the water, twas dusty tho eh? xx Yes, it was very dusty unfortunately, even though Chris Louis (think it was him) said at the beginning it wasn't dust. I don't know what he thought it was then. I'm sure the track looked wet after each break and if you went to Olly Allen's testimonial you'll know that even after a track is watered it's still nigh on impossible to keep the dust down sometimes. Otherwise one of the best G.P's this season and I enjoyed it.
rabbit
Best of the GPs so far - totally unpredictable and making the big boys work for their points instead of the usual powerhouse tracks with zippo passing. Bemused that the commentary boys were playing it down as not being 'pure' speedway - perhaps someone can enlighten me as to what 'pure' speedway is, cos I gotta say I prefer racing of the more unpure kind if that's the case. Think JC still has it in the bag, but this does at least give some interest in the last round. If it's as good as last night that'll do me fine. Did love Holta's wave of his water bottle as a mick take of this stupid craze of holding up drinks cans. Made I chuckle that did.

Dont know how much they paid to stage it, but they must have lost money with that crowd. Reckon the biggest problem was lack of locals, obviously put off by the price. There's no way they'll stage another one, from my experience, most of the brits like to go to a new gp venue once, so based on that, the crowd would be even smaller next year. Of the 15 brits i know off that were there, only one would go back again. And allthough it was entertaining to a degree, it was hardly top class speedway that makes others want to book up and go next year.
rabbit
Oh I dunno...it was the first track this season that I've thought whilst watching that I wouldn't mind going to next year.

Also wasn't it Jonsson who held his gate position up to his sponsorless arm as a parody of that trend?Plus Nicki's sponsor was all wrinkled up as to make it pointless when he done it .....then Emil playing with his Red Bull bottle during his interview(on Polish tv anyway)..... Sandie
Agreed this was the best GP for a good while, with a deserved winner, may have been a bit dusty but racing was awesome. Agreed! I was beginning to think that I had attended a different meeting completely to that shown on TV but pleased a few have said it was a good meeting. Because from where we were sat it is probably the best GP we have attended this year and probably one of the best for quite some time. Gemini - yes it was watered every 4 laps but unlike a dark track the water never changed the colour of the 'shale' at all. Spoke to a couple of mechanics before the meeting and they seemed to be looking forward to it as it posed challenges for them as it was a leap into the dark. Yes it was dusty but 'live' it seemed to settle quickly and didnt linger in the air quite so much. Numbers were definately low - certainly not the 4 thousand as suggested but a good atmosphere. The stadium was very smart and clean. Google earth showed a track an a small stand. Well lots of work since then. Lots of temporary stands but also lots of work in the pits area. Downside was the slow service in the food / drinks outlets - they really werent sure what they were doing at the start of the evening!! So, as a weekend away, good hotel, WONDERFUL weather, lovely beach and a GP that made the whole trip very enjoyable and I would definately consider doing the trip again. No I'm not a poole supporter , This for me was the Best G P this year for racing, I don't care that the track was Slick/ sand/ dustyblue grooved/ or whatever , It produced great racing . WHAT DO YOU WANT
spook
its got to be said that the racing WAS good........... certainly not authentic or what we are used to ... but who is to say that what we are used to should be the standard? I do however remember the first set of races and how dire they were........... this happens a fair amount not only in the gp's but also in speedway in general I guess but Ole Olsen noticeably never waters a track before a meeting starts........... progressively year on year we seem to be getting slicker tracks with finer material and always bone dry........................... this is a complete world away from the tracks in Ole's riding days and I cant help thinking that slowly but surely he is helping to change speedway ...................... the question has to be asked though is it becoming something that is better or not? Think that is normal capacity, but looked like they had put in a lot of temporary grandstands in for last night on back straight and second bend. Looked like a decent crowd, more then they use to get at Lonigo. Edited September 27, 2009 by Rob B
wizardofos
QUOTE (Rob B @ Sep 27 2009, 09:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Think that is normal capacity, but looked like they had put in a lot of temporary grandstands in for last night on back straight and second bend. Looked like a decent crowd, more then they use to get at Lonigo. Absolutely superb evening's entertainment (for those who were atually there) - much better than Udinese versus Genoa the next day, incidentally. Reading through this thread is a huge disappointment and an injustice. Perhaps the problem with falling speedway attendances is actually too much TV (and too many judgemental armchair supporters / keyboard warriors)
[chris1875]
i felt it was one of the better Gp's this year.My only problem with the GP was Gary Havelock's shirt.Seriously what was he thinking!!!!

westhamboy66
ITALIAN GP Another nail in speedways coffin. Bad track, bad racing, bad entertainment, somebody give BSI or old olsen a slap because this is dire. As for start girls blue is far better than the racing. From where I was sitting on the second bend this was a half decent meeting. Far better than what i saw served up at Vojens Cardiff and Copenhagen. A decent venue, no agravation, no drunks, no over zealous security people. A decent day all round. Given the choice of a day in the Udine area or Cardiff then no prizes...I wouldn't be in Wales

Actually there were far more locals there than i thought there would be. I think there was more high class racing than at Cardiff. As for the local area with the choice to spend time in Verona or Venice it makes me wonder where I would like to spend a weekend there or watching the antics of a load of p'heads in Wales come July 10th
