Now hope for good weather......

Forecast for tomorrow,it will be dry in the morning with rain coming in around lunchtime. That rain is forecast to stay for most of the afternoon before turning to showers late afternoon-early evening. The wind will be SW or Westerly so hopefully that will blow the rain/showers through and out to sea.

Dont see the rain being to much of a problem,I remember a while ago when everything was flooded but the speedway ran the meeting with Somerset, infact they needed to water the track thanks to the way it had been prepared earlier in the week.

Jeremiah Thelaus is taking part in the meeting at Scunthorpe tonight so it will be interesting to see how he gets on in these two meetings.

Tai Woffinden was also due to take part in this meeting but has had to pull out through illness, hope he feels better tomorrow.

As promised - here's the latest news bang up to date direct from the promotion....

THE BIG NIGHT OF THE YEAR IS HERE!

Speedway whizz-kid Tai Woffinden has lost his week-long fitness battle against a bout of swine ‘flu, admitting late last night that he was still “too weak” to hold onto a bike with no brakes at 75mph!

This means he must obey doctor’s orders and withdraw from tonight’s Bordernapolis at Shielfield Park.

“It’s a blow – you could say I’m pig-sick!” said Berwick club boss John Anderson. “I arrived home at 11pm from a radio interview to get Tai’s message. But we promised we would inform our public of any changes to the line-up, and all I can report is that the hunt is on for a last-minute replacement rider”.

“Of course, with Finnish Champion Kauko Nieminen coming into the field, you could say we had already replaced Tai, even before we knew he was being forced to call off so late”.

Another late change has taken Swedish teenager Jeremia Thelaus off Anderson’s parade. “Jeremia crashed heavily at Scunthorpe tonight, and will not be fit to ride” explained a Berwick spokesperson.

“We have recruited 23-year-old Australian Arlo Bugeja to replace Jeremia – and I’m told young Thelaus, despite his injuries, still intends to travel to Berwick to watch the racing”.

“Including the two reserves, we have nine nationalities on parade tonight. Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris is a pre-meeting favourite, but with our handicap formula to even things up, virtually any of these guys could end up on top of the rostrum around quarter-past nine!”

The line-up will comprise:

Chris Kerr (USA) Michal Makovsky (Czech Republic) Chris Schramm (England)

Ben Barker (England) Thomas H Jonasson (Sweden) Ben Wilson (England)

Kenny Ingalls (USA) Paul Clews (England) Jac Rempala (Poland)

Arlo Bugeja (Australia) Kauko Nieminen (Finland) Lee Complin (England)

Chris Harris (England) Derek Sneddon (Scotland) Stan Burza (Poland)

Reserves: Tamas Sike (Hungary) and Greg Blair (Scotland)

The Bordernapolis – an event which Bandits’ co-owner Lynda Waite is quick to remind everyone would not have been possible for Berwick to stage without the support and event sponsorship by Hugh Hayes – will see these sixteen riders from their eight nations contesting twenty heats of racing under the unique handicap formula first introduced at Berwick in 1972.

As announced, there will be no increase to regular admission prices on Bordernapolis evening. Indeed, the match programme – although increased in size by four extra pages – will remain at only £2. One proviso however, is that season tickets are not valid for this one big night.

“Some people have been asking about our not having followed the example of other tracks and added two or three pounds to our turnstile price” said Lynda Waite. “Well, if they think our event is worth more, we are running a big end-of-tern raffle, and a book of tickets will cost £2.50”.

“We won’t object if everyone who is surprised or pleased at paying less to get in buys at least one extra book of our big yellow tickets, by way of saying thanks!”

A tribute to this season’s marvellous back-from-the-dead speedway revival at Berwick will be paid by BBC1 TV at 7.30pm on Monday, October 26th. During the ‘Inside Out’ programme (broadcast to the North East and Cumbria) presenter Diana Binks will host a nine-minute segment, telling the story of Lynda Waite and John Anderson’s first amazing season in charge of their Bandits – featuring action from matches against Newcastle, Workington and King’s Lynn It will also be available on the BBC iPlayer for the following seven days.

There will also be a feature about Berwick Speedway on BBC Newcastle - Radio for the North East - (95.4 and 96.0FM) during the Monday 26th Breakfast show hosted by Charlie Charlton and Alfie Joey.... 6.30am to 10am.

Next Home Action TONIGHT:

Shielfield Park, Tweedmouth, Berwick upon Tweed

IT’S THE BIG ONE…………

THE 2009 BERWICK ‘BORDERNAPOLIS’ – Handicap Classic

(Sponsored by Hugh Hayes)

Saturday October 24TH 7.00pm (Parade 6.50pm)

“BERWICK – BRITAIN’S FASTEST SPEEDWAY – 75mph AND NO BRAKES!”

was kinda hoping rye would call of there match against worky today and adrian could replace tai :P

Nice thought but it looks like the Rye v Workington match is going ahead,at a guess it might be that they look at one of the Newcastle riders.Jason King maybe.

Weather remains the same, dull, overcast but as yet no rain.
