Shadders
Shadders you sometimes write really good posts but this time your spouting nonsense, they all take part knowing the 20 heats are qualifiers for the semi/final. The final is where the champion is decided. Joe had 5 good races & one bad race, unfortunately for him it was in the final. Don't get me wrong I like Joe & thoroughly enjoy watching him at the EWR, he is definitely a future star. Performance of the night for me though was Kyle Howarth, at 15 what a future he has I'm aware of the format Lewis, I just don't think it's fair ..... In esssence the U18 champion was decided tonight on one four lap race, rendering the previous 21 heats irrelevant. We are saying that a meeting should be run over 20 heats, 5 rides per man, each man meets each man once, thus seeing who scores the most on an even playing field, giving you the meeting winner. We do not like this format that means someone can score a 15 point max, thus beating everybody in the meeting, then someone can get beat more than once in the qualifiers then sneak in via a semi then win the final while the previously unbeaten rider has bike trouble moments before the final starts

I understand what your saying shadders but you could say that Jerran & Joe both beat each other once so theyre equally as good & thus equally the Real U18 champion. All the riders race against each other during their 5 rides but you did not have the race with the 4 top riders until the final, thats when all 4 riders are on the same pace, lines & it is the most difficult for them. Anyways like I said theyre all good & I look forward to seeing each & every one of them for years to come.

Albert
Well done Jerran, fully deserved. He needed to pull something special out the bag in the final and did so brilliantly. Cleverly took Joe wide on bends one and two, joe had no answer after that. Qualifying for a final is one thing..winning its another. Kyle Howarth, runner up..a fantastic achievement. squall
eleven points in the qualifying round says otherwise Opinions would change on Sunday if Karlsson scored 15 then suffered bike trouble in the final and finished last, handing the win to Ashworth on his home track
Lewis
Opinions would change on Sunday if Karlsson scored 15 then suffered bike trouble in the final and finished last, handing the win to Ashworth on his home track Kalsson wont score 15pts but David Howe might :-) he was announced as a last minute replacement for Emil Kramer. I wasnt going to go but I am now, looking forward to the even more than tonight. Guys I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, your right Squall at the end of the day I guess the format will suit who you want to win. WIE-JA
But Joe beat him in the qualifiers, was that hard luck too? ..... Whats the point of riding yer arse off for five heats only to lose out in an uneccessary final?? It wasn't an uneccessary final. To win the meeting, the champion had to win the final. Is that difficult to understand?

Whats the point of riding yer arse off for five heats only to lose out in an uneccessary final?? Happens in most of the competitions....we see it all the time in the GPs....It seems necessary to have qualifiers in championships, The final being the climax of the meeting! marcusthepom
No more to add really, I told my other half this could happen as we watched the qualifying heats come through ..... to go through the qualifiers unbeaten only to lose out in the final is ridiculously unlucky ..... I agree with Squall, twenty heats and thats yer lot ..... Congratulations to Joe Haines, the REAL U18 championwhat rules are you following mate, joe aint the 18s champ that goes to jerran........what if,could have etc etc
BobC
I shouldnt worry about it Marcus. On various other threads, both Squall and Shadders have made it very clear they are anti Jerran. You have to remember that Shadders supports Rye House....and where does Haines ride?...oh yes,Rye House! To be honest,Im far more impressed that Kyle Newman secured a rostrum place.Hes only ever been there 4 or 5 times in his career.Jerran and Kyle Howarth ride the track every week, while Haines rode for Scunny in their superb Conference League team a few seasons back. WELL DONE TEAM HART AND TEAM NEWMAN........ROCK ON THIS SUMMER

Well said, Robert Speaking as someone who was actually at the meeting, Hart actually had an EF in one race when he was well clear and rode the first corner in the final superbly to block Haines - it was that that left the Rye House man at the back (along with a couple of bumps). Everyone knew it was 20 heats a semi-final and a final so any whining about the format is completely unjustifiable. Newman rode extremely well - he also had a duck when he fell and was, for me, probably the most impressive there. Well done to the two Mildenhall lads - JJ would have got a semi-final place but for a disastrous first corner in his last ride, while Ollie's gating let him down a bit but he still managed to pull off a double pass - if memory serves me well, it was the only one of the night. No doubt he was hampered by the additional pit crew, who did little but get in the way. One other point - very good to see Kevin Doolan, Barrie Evans & Ty Proctor (and possibly others) in the pits and helping out.
Main Man
Well done to one and all -and to Jerran on securing victory in the end in a hard fought Final and to Kyle Howarth who rode superbly for 2nd spot. Commiserations to Joe Haines who was untouchable in the qualifiers in his five races but lost out when it mattered. The semi-final was a tough one for me with three Newport riders in contention for a spot in the Final with Kyle Newman not only making it through after a tough battle with young Marc Owen but also to finish on the rostrum --well done Mr Newman!! Credit too to Tom Young who was drafted into the meeting only on the Monday but rode with composure to short space of a season. Nine well earned points for the Newport born band bred rider that made Team Arnie very proud!! Marc Owen outlined what a golden talent he is. He has hardly ridden really in 2009 with his two wrist injuries but is ending his first short spell in competitive racing with some impressive scores. He has bikes troubles in his 4th ride causing him to fall on the last bend when 2nd but he pushed home for a point. He then gave Kyle Newman a hard battle in the semi with Kyle's PL experience seeing him through in the end. A good day then for Newport riders with 3rd, 5th and 6th. But overall a good day for British Speedway in general with our emerging young talent shining through. Swift Saint
Well I must have my own two pennorth here the entire Scunthorpe Saints team is filled with prospective superstars. The evidence is clear, look at the results of the Under 15's and the Under 18's and you will see just what I mean. Under 15 Champion Ashley Morris superb rider superb young man. Under 15 Runner-Up Kyle Howarth, becomes Under 18 Runner-Up and he is not 16 until February! First rode a speedway bike August 2009 But there are others to who on their day are just as good in fact the whole of my team. Did you see Richard Franklin riding courageously last night seven weeks out with an injury, one practice and still getting over a horrible operation but won his first ride. James Sargeant and Adam Wrathall on their day just the same. Excellent young men and great potential for the future. Others awaiting an opportunity believe me and a great potential star in Gary Irving just too old for these events career delayed due to an RTA etc. John MacPhail of whom I amn expecting big things next season and Scott Richardson a disatrous season since he cut part of his finger off but gone on loan to Buxton to try and get a decent quota of matches in. Scott has great talent and desrves a stroke of luck in his life. All potential stars all 21 or under and most 15 or 16. Watch them go next season. And the phone rings very often with more young riders to assess who want to ride for Scunthorpe Saints. Great evening last night and a fine win by Jerran and please don't belittle his achivement with all of this squit and petty jealousy about 20 heats. That is not how we do it now and Jerran won by the rules in use on the night and deservedly so. That final race was awesome. Those who were not there have no idea. Even the GP's are done that way now. Scunthorpe the place where stars are now in production. You are ONE of the places where stars are now in production!! We have at Newport the emerging talents of youngsters in Tom Young, Shelby Rutherford, Grant Tregoning and the three 15 year olds Marc Owen , Shane Hazelden and Darryl Ritchings!!
