whowasthatberntpersson
Nick is in Scunthorpe for the weekend, and will be riding in the Amatuer meeting on Saturday. Realistically he has very little chance of getting a ride on Friday night, I'm not about to get into any arguments but I can't recall a third reserve getting too many opportunities in any individual meeting I've ever seen. Who said Nick wouldn't ride for GB???????????? Edited September 24, 2009 by whowasthatberntpersson

Scunny Stag
After last year's debacle when several riders dropped out in the days running up to the meeting (and even on the day) I was appointed co-ordinator for this meeting (the SCB provided the line-up though) and put in a lot of effort to make sure we have at least sixteen riders tomorrow. Last year we were reduced to just 14 riders on the day and I hope everyone can understand why I was eager for this not to happen again. This year we have had five riders (Ben Hopwood, Josh Dingle, Jason Garrity, Danny Stoneman and Michael Bovis) withdraw for one reason or another but replacements have been contacted and participation agreed (Jake Knight & Scott Meakins have stepped up whilst, with John Resch also unavailable, Tom Young, Richard Andrews and Jack Hirst have been added, the latter two as reserves). With only eighteen riders being paid travel for this meeting, and some form of contact having been made for all eighteen (thus hopefully reducing the risk of riders not turning up), it was felt unlikely (on Monday night with the programme having to be produced the following day) that anyone would be prepared to travel a long distance at their own expense to not get a ride. However, knowing Nick was to be in town I enquired about his eligibility and was informed that there wasn't a problem. Hopefully now knowing more about what happened people can understand why we are in the situation we are. Hopefully, there won't be any problems with the eighteen riders tomorrow and Nick, as planned, will be sat on his backside all night. Not something I really wish on anyone but at least Nick won't have travelled more than a couple of miles to do so. Great Central
Richard, I certainly don't want to get into an argument about what you are trying to do to get a full starting line up, but at least one of the riders listed was never going to ride and that was Jason Garrity who is still suffering from an injury sustained earlier in the year. How many times do we see the SCB, the rulers of our sport, nominate riders who are either injured or even no longer competing? It does seem that names are pulled out the air as an afterthought without recourse to the riders. That said, well done to you and Scunthorpe for trying to put on a credible meeting for the British U18 riders. At least the last minute organisation of the riders has fallen to somebody that will do his best to ensure that a full grid plus reserves is present. Finally best wishes to all of the riders tomorrow evening. Enjoy the occasion. Martin Widman
crazysue
Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the updates site? If so, could you please either leave a message here or send me an email or pm. Thanks

Richard Hollingsworth Scunthorpe Speedway i think your doing a great job richard,so what if young nick gets a ride.....same can be said for queensland letting kyle newman ride in the queensland championships.if there good enough and the qualify that should be it. all those knockers should watch young nick go........im sure you would love him in your team next season. only wish i could watch the meeting tonite.im tipping a big upset,my hope is both jerran and kyle in the top 3. squall
Lucky Jerran more like. Joe was a class above, won the meeting, then suffered bike problems before a race that isn't needed. Great Central
The format is what it is and every rider has to ride to it. Feel sorry for Joe but that is speedway. Well done to all the riders - some fast times and good racing. Marcus - you obviously didn't get much sleep last night following Kyles progress. Time for a few beers?? However, the rules were such that you needed 7 good rides, not 6. Sure,it appears Joe was unlucky, but that is how the cookie crumbles,Im afraid. Many congrats to Jerran. Special congrats to Kyle. Great effort mate.

This meeting proves that we need to go back to 20 heats and that's your lot Luck plays a part in all speedway meetings......Jerran had hard luck in the race when he had e/f... he weas leading and he had the fastest heat time of the night. In the final race Jerran gated and was gone.....Yes had to feel for Joe who had gone unbeaten but I certainly wouldn't go so far as saying that Joe was a class above ,Jerran looked equally as good. Shadders
No more to add really, I told my other half this could happen as we watched the qualifying heats come through ..... to go through the qualifiers unbeaten only to lose out in the final is ridiculously unlucky ..... I agree with Squall, twenty heats and thats yer lot ..... Congratulations to Joe Haines, the REAL U18 champion

June I have to agree with you. Jerran & Joe were both a class above & I thought Joe was a nailed on certainty to win it. In the final Jerran gated, Joe as usual had a blast around the outside only to find Jerran had closed the line on the 2nd bend. On the 4th bend (still first lap), Kyle kept his line & forced Joe wide enabling him to get 2nd place which he held. A fantastic race to end the night. Lets face it, all the riders in the final (as well as others who didnt make the final) have a big future in speedway.

Congratulations to Joe Haines, the REAL U18 champion Shadders you sometimes write really good posts but this time your spouting nonsense, they all take part knowing the 20 heats are qualifiers for the semi/final. The final is where the champion is decided. Joe had 5 good races & one bad race, unfortunately for him it was in the final. Don't get me wrong I like Joe & thoroughly enjoy watching him at the EWR, he is definitely a future star. Performance of the night for me though was Kyle Howarth, at 15 what a future he has
