gypilgrim
Surprised that no topic for this one yet. Am I right in thinking that only Jerran Hart and Joe Haines amongst riders above NL level are eligible ? Who do you think deserves an invite ? I hope to attend and cast an eye over the future of British Speedway, but can anyone stop Haines from winning the title ?
Scunny Stag
From www.scunthorpespeedway.com: Scunthorpe Speedway have been awarded the British Under-18 Final for the second year running and it will take place on Friday 25th September. A leading contender will be Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions’ rider Jerran Hart but he will face some still competition from former-Scorpion Joe Haines, former-Saints’ rider Ben Hopwood who finished sixth last year and Marc Owen, who was seventh whilst only just having turned fourteen. Kyle Newman is another rider with Premier League experience whilst five Saints riders (Richard Franklin, James Sarjeant, Adam Wrathall, Kyle Howarth and Ashley Morris) are eligible. Other National League regulars who are eligible include Rye House’s Ben Morley and Michael Bovis, Mildenhall’s Oliver Rayson and Joe Jacobs, King’s Lynn’s Rhys Naylor and Jake Knight. Plymouth’s Josh Dingle, who leads the British Under-15 championship with the Saints’ Ashley Morris, may be a rider who gets an invite whilst it would be good to see the 2008 British Champion Jason Garrity back in action. With riders like John Resch, Danny Stoneman, Tom Young, Richard Andrews, Jack Hirst and Scott Meakins also eligible the meeting, just like the 2008 version, is set to be an interesting affair as the countries best young riders go head-to-head one of the countries best race tracks. Scunny Stag
Taken from www.scunthorpespeedway.com British Under-18 Final line-up announced The line-up for the British Under-18 final, due to be raced at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday 25th September (7.30pm start), has been announced and there are six riders representing Scunthorpe. The Scorpions’ Jerran Hart will start amongst the favourites whilst five Saints riders (Richard Franklin, Kyle Howarth, Ashley Morris, James Sarjeant and Adam Wrathall) will also be in a strong field. Joe Haines, a former Scorpion, will be leading contender whilst Bournemouth’s Kyle Newman has also had Premier League experience with Newport this season. Another former Scunthorpe rider, Ben Hopwood, has had an good season with the Isle of Wight whilst there is good crop of 15-year olds in this year’s competition with Ben Morley, Marc Owen, Joe Jacobs and Josh Dingle joining Scunthorpe’s three (Howarth, Morris and Sarjeant). Scunthorpe Promoter Rob Godfrey was delighted to be offered the meeting again after the success of the 2008 meeting. “It was an excellent meeting last year. The only disappointment was we were down to 14 riders but steps have been taken this year to ensure there isn’t a repeat. Last year saw Jerran impress and ultimately his performance in that meeting won him a team place with the Scorpions this year. Marc Owen was exceptional last year despite still being 14 and having only ridden a 500cc bike for a couple of months or so and I’m sure there will be riders this year who surprise us. We’ve also got five Saints riders in the field and there will be real battle between them. They are a talented set of riders and they will all be looking to be up there challenging for honours”. Prices have been set for the meeting at just £10 for adults, £8 for senior citizens and students, £4 for children (aged 10-16) with children aged nine and under free of charge. The full line-up, in riding order, is: 1. Ben Morley (Rye House) 2. Richard Franklin (Scunthorpe) 3. Adam Wrathall (Scunthorpe) 4. James Sarjeant (Scunthorpe) 5. Kyle Newman (Bournemouth) 6. Marc Owen (Newport) 7. Ben Hopwood (Isle of Wight) 8. Joe Haines (Rye House) 9. Michael Bovis (Rye House) 10. Joe Jacobs (Mildenhall) 11. Oliver Rayson (Mildenhall) 12. Jerran Hart (Scunthorpe and Bournemouth) 13. Ashley Morris (Scunthorpe) 14. Kyle Howarth (Scunthorpe) 15. Josh Dingle (Plymouth) 16. Rhys Naylor (Plymouth) Reserves: 17. Jake Knight (King’s Lynn) 18. Danny Stoneman (Plymouth) Stand-by riders: 19. Jason Garrity (Buxton) 20. Scott Meakins (Isle of Wight) 21. John Resch (Bournemouth)

Tiger Cub
Does anyone know why Dale Lamb (15) and Jack Hurst (16 I think) aren't included? Both these riders have raced and beaten a number of guys listed. Dale I know is still riding competitively, having ridden for both Glasgow and Berwick in junior challenges. Jack I'm not so sure about as I haven't heard much about him since he signed for Redcars National league side that failed to get off the ground. It would be really sad if these guys have just missed out because they live too far North.

Jack I'm not so sure about as I haven't heard much about him since he signed for Redcars National league side that failed to get off the ground. It would be really sad if these guys have just missed out because they live too far North. It does seem a shame that Dale does miss out alot. Shane Hazelden has been doiong academy matches all year and has been going reallt well and he seems to get over looked as well. Dont know how they actually choose who rides, we were suprised as anyone when Marc was chosen as he has been side lined for 15 weeks this season with 2 breaks, he did manage 2 practises in the middle of that before the second break. Scunny Stag
Taken from www.scunthorpespeedway.com Best of British youth takes centre stage This Friday night the best young British riders take centre stage at the Eddie Wright Raceway in Scunthorpe (7.30pm start) as they battle it out to become British Under-18 Champion. With the winner set to follow in the footsteps of Great Britain stars Tai Woffinden, Lewis Bridger and Danny King there is much prestige attached to the title and Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions’ Jerran Hart starts the meeting as one of the favourites for the crown. He will face stiff competition, in particular from former Scorpion Joe Haines who has reached the final for the last two seasons, but Scunthorpe Promoter Rob Godfrey feels Hart is more than capable of claiming the crown. “Jerran has come on leaps and bounds over recent weeks and is in the form of his career. He is capable of beating anyone around our track and can pass riders both inside and out. He used to favour the inside but he can really ride the dirt now and with the dark nights upon us the track is likely to stay grippy longer. Whilst Jerran and Joe seem to be the outstanding candidates we have a whole host of Saints rides who can make the latter stages. With two riders going straight to the final and four more making the semi-final I’m sure several of the Saints will be involved. Ashley Morris has been in outstanding form recently but Adam Wrathall, Kyle Howarth, James Sarjeant and Richard Franklin are also in the line-up and such is their ability I’m sure any of them will be disappointed if they don’t at least make the semi-final and thus have a crack at the title over the final two races when anything can happen”. “It is a measure of our commitment to British youth that we have six riders in the line-up whilst eleven of the eighteen riders involved have ridden in our amateur meetings over the last eighteen month. When you consider Jerran and Joe, who have ridden for the Scorpions, aren’t included in that figure and all bar a couple have attended our practice sessions it just shows what an impact we have had over the last five years. When you look at it like that it must be very rewarding to our volunteers who run our practices and amateur meetings. I’m sure Friday is going to be a cracking meeting. Last season’s was and I see no reason why this year’s won’t be too. I’m sure there will be a few surprises.” Along with Joe Haines and the six Scunthorpe riders another leading contender for the crown is Bournemouth’s Kyle Newman who also has had plenty of Premier League experience with Newport this season. Rye House’s Ben Morley and Newport’s Marc Owen have been impressive visitors to the EWR over recent weeks and Owen was one of the stars in last years’ final when he finished seventh whilst only just having turned fourteen. Mildenhall’s Oliver Rayson and Joe Jacobs have both achieved five-point plus National League averages whilst there are sure to be others who impress on the night. Prices for the meeting are £10 for adults, £8 for senior citizens and students, £4 for children (aged 10-16) with children aged nine and under free of charge. The full line-up, in riding order, is: 1. Ben Morley (Rye House) 2. Richard Franklin (Scunthorpe) 3. Adam Wrathall (Scunthorpe) 4. James Sarjeant (Scunthorpe) 5. Kyle Newman (Bournemouth and Newport) 6. Marc Owen (Newport) 7. Jake Knight (King’s Lynn) 8. Joe Haines (Rye House) 9. Scott Meakins (Isle of Wight) 10. Joe Jacobs (Mildenhall) 11. Oliver Rayson (Mildenhall) 12. Jerran Hart (Scunthorpe and Bournemouth) 13. Ashley Morris (Scunthorpe) 14. Kyle Howarth (Scunthorpe) 15. Tom Young (Newport) 16. Rhys Naylor (King's Lynn) Reserves: 17. Richard Andrews (unattached) 18. Jack Hirst (unattached) Stand-by rider: 19. Nick Morris (unattached)
