Jacques
Why is it when people post perfectly good critisisms about any facet of speedway , you get classed as a moaning misery ? Was last night's GP any good ? - no it wasn't . Ok the weather didn't help , but any big meeting where one starting gate is so dominant over the other can't be good . Was it a major irritance that Sky replaced the last hour or so with Tennis ? Well yes it was irritating , wouldn't happen to cricket or football - so why speedway . Hope you get a decent crowd for your meeting on Monday , but having genuine opinions of something you don't agree with doesn't necessarily make anyone a moaning mysery . The best bit about the GP is you and this thread, despite the fact you've resorted to your usual shallow comments We fell fowl of the red button malarky cos we recorded without realising. Sat down at about midnight well oiled to wath it and WTF!! we had to record it again this morning and have just watched it. But it WAS a mediocre GP, not moaning either Slightly concerned that the evil Dane is down in 9th. A GP series without him is unthinkable, he provides the entertainment.. Mauger_Magic
In a nutshell....Gate 1 (Red) 23 rides 16 x 1sts, 4 x 2nds 2 x 3rds and 1 x 4th Bloody awful advert for Speedway... and certainly bemused my non Speedway friend who said....."Gate 1 the red helmet...is that where the favourite rides from??" Ipswich Jules
So why not just Skybox the 10.30 showing?, simples. Because I wanted to watch it on delay when I returned from the meal at around 8:30....... In the end I watched it and +'d it 10:30, saw all the qualifing rounds before falling asleep (given the first dozen heats I think I done well!) and watched the semi's and final at 5am before work this morning - an ideal situation? Far from it!
johnc
If Tennis is on the red button no problem but if its the speedway I am stuffed as I am at a wedding until 10 pm and like to watch it on the fast forward over an hour when I get home. Who gives a toss over some dour Scot with a personailty of a sweaty sock anyway? Edit. Yep its on the rd button from 8PM. Disaster. How many people actually care about some obscure Canadian tennis tournament? Sky have acalled this wrong. there are more speedway fans than tennis, and whilst Wimbledon is big news, this tennis isn't. If you are not on Sky Plus you have had it. Is he British now that he actually won the tournament Steve?

SCB
All I can say about last night's GP is, thank God for the Twenty20 Cup Final. I love my speedway but I was offered the chance to go to the Twenty20 finals on Monday and said yes, before finding out there was a GP, then we had a 2 minute, "oh God, what should we do moment" then decided the GPs had been crap this year, decision made. I've never been to cricket before or watched it on the tele but I had a bloody great day out, to think for 2 minutes I was almost tempted to say no to the offer for the sake of that GP. I'd have only been upset anyway as the pub would not have shown the last few heats any way. I can't believe some other sporting event was better than the speedway But I made the right choice Thanks Jenn

SCB
fuelled by a substantial amount of alcohol I am led to believe! Well if security had done their job and stopped me taking in my cans, that would have been less of an issue
Adder
Another boring GP i'm afraid. As pointed out it was a good job there was the alternative of the T20 crickat and the golf to keep me entertained. The SGP format has become very stale now. Same old riders, processional tracks, Millard doing the commentary, it all adds up to a boring three hours. Time to bring back the old 'two strikes and you're out' format which may liven it up a bit. As for the Sky thing, fair enough in my opinion. The sports which speedway had to make way for are all more popular in the UK than speedway i'm afraid which, despite the cycloptic views of some on this forum, is very much a minority interest sport. Humphrey Appleby
I can't believe some other sporting event was better than the speedway I'm afraid Twenty20 cricket would for me win out over speedway every time these days. Even though cricket is often tarnished with reactionism, you have to say that someone somewhere recognised the existing product was unattractive, and developed an appealing form of the sport that would keep it in business. I suspect the golden goose will eventually be killed through over saturation, but I'm sure speedway wouldn't mind having 93 million quid to spend on keeping marginal tracks in business. If the SGP is considered the pinnacle of the sport, then I truly fear for the future of speedway.

Sir Jasper
I agree its not an idea situation, but if you are a subscriber to another provider, probably because its cheaper, its hardly fair to bleat about it, is it? As a sky customer, I will enjoy the whole meeting live, but thats what I pay for, isn't it? I'm sure Sky are really bothered about the Virgin customers. p****d off watchin up club red button didnt work, now home trying to get stream, ditch sky, and go to proper channel, speedway i remember problems when we had oz gp few years back Sky charge business accounts for use of the red button, shocking!
