In this weeks Star there is an article entitled, Brandons Big Night. It says, "A massive crowd is expected" the article is not signed as I guess the writer did not want to be seen as an idiot. Nobody in their right mind would pay £25 to watch this meeting. Come to Somerset the same night and see Crump, Peter Karlsson, Woffindon etc etc. Meet Sam Ermolenko and Phil Crump in the pits, also pre-meeting entertainment and all for £13-50. YES £13-50 what a bargain.

But this £13.50p meeting means nothing except to Mark Lemon, I'm not disputing that the old fella deserves his day, but it can't possibly be compared to a meeting of guys scrapping to get into next years GP series. The GP challenge is the modern day equivalent to the old intercontinental final with riders battling to reach the top table. Just how many riders have battled away to try to reach this stage during the season is testament to this, how anyone can gripe about £25 entrance fee is beyond me, it is a genuine world championship event for Gods sake!

edited to add; Hey Bruno "at follow the leader Coventry", you obviously don't watch much racing at Brandon!

I know I said I was not going to respond, but looking on here yesterday I just found the negativity so odd. As for travelling to Somerset, I'v seen Crumpy batter the opposition twice last week!!!

£15 for 15 el heats, 3 heats of which are littlke more than old second half riders 2,8,14. £15 for 12 meanigful races. £1.20 a race

20 heats no duffers £25 seems about the same as above really!

so the val;ue imo is about the same, why bother witha programme we can all download the things anyway!

Heats 2, 8 and 14 have contained Ben Barker in the last few weeks at Coventry, are you really suggesting he is "little more than old second half riders"? Kennett has been in heat 14 all season too.

Dryml, Pavlic, Bogdanovs, Miedzinski, Smolinski, Nieminen. If they're now in the "no duffers" class, then I fail to see how Ben Barker and Ed Kennett are "little more than old second half riders".

There is also the fact that to me, most of the riders in this meeting mean nothing, after Chris Harris I'd have nobody to support (other than every rider racing against Zetterstrom) and in fact quite the opposite I don't like most of the riders (Dryml, Zorro, Smoli, Watt, Walasek, Hampel), at Somerset there are a few riders I like and it's on a phenomenal track. I can only assume that those who prefer this meeting to Mark Lemons have never actually been to Somerset and certainly never seen Crumpy there, I assure you, Crumpy at Somerset is speedway heaven!

Each to there own, but £25 to watch Dryml, Pavlic, Bogdanovs, Miedzinski, Smolinski and Nieminen hardly gets me excited!

That I think, is the fundamental problem with individual racing. It can only ever be an adjunct to team racing, and the powers-that-be shouldn't lose sight of that.

Each to his own of course, but in my mind when You are a speedway fan and have the chance to see such a really important qualifying meeting for the new SGP season right at Your doorstep and decide not to go there ist a strange decision, to put it mildly.

What do You think where will You see the more hard fought racing action? At Your Somerset friendly event or at Coventry's world championship eliminator. Come on, get real !

Just out of interest, how many times have you seen Bogdanovs?

I've not seen him but when you consider he cant even get to the U21 Final, you have to fancy he's nowt special. If you like, remove Bogdanovs form the list, still not enough to get me there however much some try and convince me, notice I'm not trying to convince anyone they shouldn't go?

Using this theory every GP should be great, they're hard fought, sadly, this seaosn everyone one of them has been a pile of crap. On the other hand I have yet to see a poor meeting at Somerset. Frankly thats a poor argument, I support my preferred riders, I don't go to speedway because some rider I don't care about might get some prestige. Only 1 rider at Coventry means anything to me, so why would I go just for the sake of the 5 races he is in when I can go to Somerset and financially reward a rider I like (Mark Lemon) and see a handfull of other riders I enjoy watching race (Crumpy, Matej, PK, Gathercole, Woffinden, Larsen and McGowan)

just making the point that it isnt that far off el standard cost thats all!

just because we dont know these riders does not mean thjat they couldnt easily get a place in an el team

Miedzinski have done a great season so far in Sweden riding really well. point wise he is on the same level as riders like Lindgren, Hans, Walasek, Jonas D, Antonio L, Gollob and that is better the rider like Holder Tai, Nicholls, Harris, Iversen, Kasprzak, PK, Shields.. Miedzinski is also among the top 20 i the Polish league

so dont judge the riders if you dont know who they are. Miedzinski is a good rider and i wouldnt be surprised if we saw him the GPs within a few years.
