ylinenhare5-1
Pouring down at the moment - not looking good
mervjankefanclub
Just been reading on the Chatzone that a decision will be made at 6.30. There is constant drizzle falling on the track at the moment. Not a good sign once the doubts start setting in.

mervjankefanclub
Even if it does, I will be very surprised if they manage 22 heats. I think I made the right decision to stay home and save the dosh. Edited July 31, 2009 by mervjankefanclub

Dekker
MEETING OFF Despite working on the track and the riders willing to give it a go the promotion felt it wasn't worth it with a worsening forecast
mervjankefanclub
I think if it was league meeting it would have got the chop a lot earlier. But you can understand them trying their utmost to get the meeting on, with all the time, effort and money that goes into a meeting like this, a costly postponment is the last thing they want. To be fair I think they were fighting a losing battle from late afternoon, I think my my mind was made up from about five bells. I enjoy my visits to the Open, so hopefully now I can go through on a good night for speedway, because tonight most certainly wouldnt have been. Thats if it can be squeezed into the busy fixture list Edited July 31, 2009 by mervjankefanclub

SCOTLAND1314
I feel sorry for the Edinburgh promotion. IMO they'd constructed a meeting where approx 6 riders could have won the meeting, with the others able to contribute to a potentially decent night's speedway. You cannot fault their effort. The track staff were still battling away right up until it was called off. Let's hope for some better weather soon.

BongoBrian
Ok..Ok...Ok... so you told me so? (Well actually nobody told me nout ) So I travelled all the way from Glasgow (£35 between trains and taxis) in the hope it would be on. But anyways, it was only slightly drizzly in Glasgow when I left Queen Street at 4:30pm (...Yes you'r right, it's a weak excuse for my behaviour) and it looked ok for the whole journey to Haymarket (through the train windows at any rate!) until that is, the train slowed down to pull into Haymarket and I was able to see the rain in slow motion (compared with 85 mph you understand?).... yup, it was peeing it.... nah, it was HOWFIN' IT DOON! (sorry, that was back to the broons). My heart really sank at that point. The BBC said that the weather front was moving from West to East... Bullocks! It was worse in the Edinburgh than anywhere. You really can not blame Speedway promoters when the proffessional (should that be 2 f's?) weather buffs do not even have a skooby about the difference between barometric pressure and relative humidity! .... Jeesh! Anyways, at least I found a good excuse for my slightly wasted time (as it could have been perceived), I forgot to pick up a DVD of the PL Pairs at Somerset that I had purchased at Armadale last week (Scunthorpe meeting), so I had to pick it up and the lovely lady at the stall in the main stand at the bar (where else Hic!) remembered me (luckily) and had saved it for me! Big thanks to you x On a final note, it may seem to the Speedway novice that there was actually no result to be had tonight and I can understand that sentiment, but I beg to differ... The result reads... Peter Duncan 1 : Speedway Racing 0 ... a resounding victory for soggy sentimentality to match the weather situation. Blue Peter rocked Good night all and hope to see you at the re-run (as I managed to save my wee ticket which lets me get in for nout next time round ) Regards, Bongo. ylinenhare5-1
Ah well, Bongo - at least you gave it a try! Of course, your best reason for making the trip was talking with me outside the bar Turned out that it was much worse than 50/50 The crowd was actually alot bigger than I thought it would be - alot of optimistic people left in the world!! The lineup deserved a drier night and hopefully we can pray for better weather for the re-staging.
