Oliver Allen Testimonial

Recommended Posts

It's not the riders fault he has changed clubs, it's the points limit system. Without wishing to sound bad I have to agree that there are too many testimonials for riders nowadays. Factory workers don't get one after 10yrs service do they !

No we don't, but hopefully our careers are not finished at 40 years old either

Incidentally the first prize for the meeting is to be a new GM engine, a good prize I reckon, something a rider will actually want to win, better than a set of golf clubs etc

This testimonial stuff is out of hand.

Used to be to celebrate a rider riding for the same club for 10 years (a loyalty thing), fair enough, that hardly happens much nowadays and probably wont in the future, a rider then got one for being signed to the same promotion for 10 years, no matter how many different clubs they had, now its lowered again to just being in the sport for 10 years!!! ridiculous.

Not having a pop at Allen just the system that allows this, 27 years old, ridden for 6 clubs, been in the sport for 10 years, does this warrant a testimonial??

If you don't agree with it, the answer is simple.......... Don't go!

I'm sure that, along with Jason Crump, who has now been confirmed as taking part, there will be plenty of people at Brandon on August 23rd who disagree with you.

I won't be there, typical of this place, you have not read what I put but taken it as a pop at Allen.

Good luck to Olly, but like others I'm completely baffled as to why he has a Testimonial.

He didn't leave Swindon because of the points limit. He was struggling there and wasn't happy. Career took on a new lease of life at Coventry, then he switched to being a Coventry asset a few years ago. surely a testimonial would be due 10 years after that.

Anyway, not his fault I guess, and I'm pleased to see he has done well for the Bees.

When is Simon Stead having his Blunsdon testimonial then?

Are you really suggesting riders remove all sponsorship and that Sky also remove sponsorship?

Looking forward to this. I've become something of an Olly Allen fan. In my opinion he's something of a success story for young Brits to look to. He showed some promise as a youngster, tried the EL but it didn't work out, moved back to the PL for experience and gain confidence, had another crack at the EL when many thought there was no chance he would be good enough (myself included) and hasn't looked back since joining the Bees 4 years ago. He's now a solid EL rider that causes some upsets from time-to-time. :approve:

He has done well, and sorted his career out, when he could have easily remained a big rider in the premier league.

He needs to ditch the flat bill cap though. Cool on Yanks & Aussies but on a Brit.. not a good look. Maybe he can ask for one that fits next time..

I have to disagree, Chris Holder looks awful in his...

OOOH Crumpy, excellent news. As for the negative comments I dont believe this is the time or place for them. Riders deserve testimonials if they have given 10 years service to british speedway.

Oh god, please - get the sick bucket

Can't wait to see what you say when Magnus Karlsson has his. :P

I thought you would be more concerned with organising Morten Risager's. I think this is his 5th season over here so he's half way there already. It'll be here before you know it.

FORMER Treble-winning Coventry skipper Scott Nicholls will be back at Brandon for Olly Allen's Testimonial meeting on Sunday, August 23.

Nicholls, currently on loan at Ipswich, will be one of several top stars vying for the first prize of a new GM engine at the event.

Also confirming their attendance are Wolverhampton duo Fredrik Lindgren and Tai Woffinden. Swedish star Lindgren is a current Grand Prix competitor, and he pulled off one of the rides of the season at Brandon earlier this month when he secured a dramatic draw for his team in the final race.

Woffinden, meanwhile, is one of the sport's big rising stars tipped for a Grand Prix future - and the same applies to Poole's Australian ace Chris Holder, who will also be taking part.

Several of the field are either current or former team-mates of Allen, with Brandon specialist Simon Stead having ridden alongside him at both Peterborough and Coventry.

And a new name for supporters is Swedish youngster Robin Bergqvist, who will be making his first appearance at Coventry.

With World Championship leader Jason Crump also involved along with current Buildbase Bees stars Chris Harris, Edward Kennett and Ben Barker - plus, of course, Allen himself, a terrific afternoon of racing is expected.

Turnstiles open at 11.30am, the parade is at 12.45pm with the first race at 1pm sharp. The meeting runs over 20 heats and a Grand Final for the top scorers, and is followed by a disco and auction in the Under-stand bar.

The final line-up looks superb & i wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion Crumpie will win the GM on offer to the winner.

Really hoping Olly has the excellent day he deserves.

Oh, and a few extra pie & chips for Joe. :P
