Ghostwalker
I also think there are too many who get in without doing qualifying rounds as such - and I don't mean wilcards, but the riders who finish in the top 8. I think it should be the top three only. There are riders who perform very well in 1 or 2 GPs but poorly in the others but continue to get in top 8. There is too little change from one year to the next and on the current state of motorway tracks & dull racing then the only real points of interest are how the newcomers get on. If this doesn't change I think the series will continue to decline - something I won't be too disappointed about anyway as I've always much preferred team racing. i dont like that suggestion because its hard enough as it is for the new riders to establish themselves in the GP series and if you would change 12 of the 15 riders for each season it could mean allot of new riders each year and the new riders usually dont ride as good the first season as the experienced riders. One thing to do would to do a swap so that the 4 finalist in the GP challenge gets a place in the GPs and then only 3 WC picks. Also put an age limit on the WCs and GP Qualification. Lets say 35 years of age? Also add a new limit of the amount of permanent WCs a rider can get in a row.
iris123
I don't really go along with giving more GP places to riders from the GP Challenge.Speedway is a curious sport where certain tracks favour certain riders. You could bet that a couple of Poles would make it through last year. And the year before you could have a good guess that the Danes would do well and so on.If the Challenge was in Gorican you would be almost certain Pavlic would get through or Zagar in Krskro.........Harris will stand a good chance of making it through in Coventry, whereas he would just be among the field at other tracks in other countries. We almost had Tomicek make it through in Vojens. And Let's face it that would have been a disaster to watch him in a GP season....... In the old one day World Final it wasn't sooooo bad to see a couple of strugglers. But in a whole GP series it is painful. Ghostwalker
Ageist!! well what's the point of someone like Zorro trying to get in the GP series? or PK? They aren't an especially good addition to the gp series. Lets say Zorro won a place in the GPs by finishing top 3 in the GP challenge and someone like Miedzinski or Pavlic or Bogdanovs or Hampel would finish 4th and miss a spot in the Gps just because a 38 year old wants a try in the GPs. Zorro shouldnt be in the GP Challenge if the riders themselves dont get it well then someone will have to make them understand. About the other stuff well i dont want to have the history to repeat itself every year when 2 of the 4 WC are the same as last year and the year before (like Nicholls/Harris) especially when there are other riders t hat are better (like Richardson/Hampel). Seb the Snail
Didn't Greg Hancock win the GP in question? Last time I looked he was definitely over 35 too. Age and nationality should be irrelevant; the only thing that matters in a World Championship is ability.

I fail to see why the Fish is continually overlooked for a GP berth, then.

I think there is something wrong when "oldies" like Zorro, PK etc tries to qualify for the GPs. They dont bring any addition to the GPs and should know to step aside for younger riders, the GPs series does not need another bunch of old boys riders in the GPs. The same goes for Holta if he misses out on this years top 8, then he should realize that his time as GP rider have come to an end and accept that he no longer have what it takes to be in the gps. I'd much rather see someone like Antonio Lindbäck or Jurica Pavlic or Chris Holder in the GP series then someone like Zorro or Holta or Ulamek. BigFatDave
I'd like to see Zagar and Hampel in the GPs - too good to leave out. Can't wait for Chris Holder and Tai Woffenden to qualify.

If the likes of Zorro and PK got through , good luck too them , its not their fault that the rest of the entrants werent good enough. If you dont buy a ticket , you cant win the raffle

Ghostwalker
Good Post - The World Championship??? SHOULD be won on MERIT and against ALL COMERS. you recently complained about the lack of re-newing in the GPs and still want to see pensioners qualify to the gps. If we want to get fresh blood into the GPs then the likes of Zorro, Holta, Ulamek, PK, Max etc shouldnt be allowed to stand in the way. Zorro would be not be a good addition to the GP series. Ulamek &Adams really struggles this year and compared to those how would Zorro do?

And compared to "Real" work life the standard age of retirement is 65 y.o. and those who are over 60 rarely gets a new job because they are considred too old so i dont see how BSI/IMg couldnt do the same with those who are a year or two away from retiring from speedway. Do you really want to see a GP series that would look like this (exaggerated) : 01. Crump 02. Nicki 03. Greg 04. Gollob 05. Adams 06. Holta 07. Ulamek 08. Zorrro 09. PK 10. AJ 11. Hans A 12. Nicholls 13. Lindgren 14. Bjerre 15. Harris 16. Local WC Edited August 8, 2009 by Ghostwalker
Humphrey Appleby
Do you really want to see a GP series that would look like this (exaggerated) If I were actually interested in the SGP, I'd prefer to see a competitive process for deciding the lineup. Yes, you might get a Zorro or Tomicek in there, but that would be better than this nonsense of trying to second guess who 'might be good for the GP', and then just nominating Nicholls once again anyway. Furthermore, if the GP Challenge actually meant anything, some of the better riders might start putting more effort into it, and you wouldn't have the potential scenario of a Tomicek coming within a whisker of qualifying. In any case, such riders might even end up being a refreshing surprise, because at the moment the whole thing is duller than dishwater.
