Dexter
Basically Poles love Gollob only if he wins important international meeting. He is booed at most of Polish stadiums when riding against home team. Throwing bottles, whistling, booing, cursing - that all happens in Poland on regular basis, especially towards Gollob. Trees
Jesus, the price he pays for being a top speedway racer in Poland eh!
Dexter
That's probably why he never got gold medal in Individual World Championship. The pressure from fans, promoters, media and everyone else was so high that even he was unable to endure it. Pity... I don't like the guy but he is a brilliant rider. Trees
I guess the Polish riders have the same mentality as the Polish fans, they are all Polish people after all and know nothing less than top spot is good enough and perhaps expect to be booed when things aren't going right. That's why they keep winning the SWC!
Phlipphlopp
Not booing him now !! great last ride , but Poland blessed with great gate positions in the last few heats , which proved vital
BongoBrian
It made for a classic 'hollywood style' villain to hero story though... I bet there are script writers all over hollywood with their notepads out after seeing this one. Roy of the Rovers eat your heart out! Well done to Poland & commiserations to Australia, it was a fantastic meeting which was not ruined by the rain delay. Ps. Just about to go to Ashfield, so as I said in another thread, I hope Shane is more fired up than dissapointed and ready for a bit of whoop ass to get it out his system. KiddlyKestrel
And of course nobody British would ever say anything nasty about our top rider if his form dropped off I would boo our so-called top rider regardless of how good or bad he was scoring!!!!! GeneralMelchett
Sure is, they dont deserve him It's only the same treatment we (as in England) fans dish out to footballers. I can remember Beckham post World Cup 98 it was embarrassing the treatment he got. I remember Man U coming to Hillsborough Wed won 3-1 and Beckham got booed abused and spat at all day long, particularly when he came to take the corners at the Kop end. Of course a couple of years later when he scored that goal against Greece he was once more lauded as a here everyone conveniently forgetting they'd hated him for the last 2-3 years
Bartolus
It's mine point of view: There are many people here who dislike T.Gollob almost as much as N.Pedersen. Still he is the best Polish rider and he is representing Poland ....so the Poles have no other choice but to cheer on him. Funny( or rather pathetic I would say) but most likely true. dziobak
What I could add to the above post is that things get changed as for Gollob being booed as soon as he decides to sign a contract with particular club whose supporters are used to whilst on him. It happened to Tarnow, then Gorzow. I could also assume and be able to see even Torun fans accepting Gollob in their team line-up and cheer on him if necessary heh. That's how it looks like in Poland. Apart from that, most of the time Gollob is disliked by the majority of polish supporters for a reason, in my opinion, I am not even able to explain. It's probably related to his past and some incidents that took place with his brother and father in a main role.
