Where Was Nicholls

Errrr.....yes, its exactly what Bridger did by going from the Conference league straight into the Elite league as a 16 year old and look where it has got him in a couple of seasons he's become an Elite league heatleader on a 7.63 average and has now ridden in the SWC - not done too badly by riding against 'far superior opposition' has he?

very good point. And as for him having a 'long face' ANY rider would of been dissapointed with Thursday nights performance, Lewis will learn from this, it is a big shame what happened as we may of gone thru if Lewis would of had a different start to the evening. He'll be back as too will the other young guns, and the experience of racing in this SWC will go a long way in next years SWC, WELL DONE Rob !!!

Why do you think putting kids out against far superior oppostion is a good thing ? It certainly did Lewis Bridger no good at all , He was absolutely demoralised by the fact that he was so far off the pace and despite the "old boys" Rico and Bomber trying to raise his spirits spent most of the meeting with a face as long as a wet weekend . This is what you think is a good thing is it ? . The kids don't have good enough equipment, racecraft , backup or experience and losing races at world level will not put that right , kids don't become Crump Or Adams overnight and need to learn their craft at club level , and when they are beating the best in the world on a regular basis that's when they should be part of team GB .

With respect, what a load of horse manure.

Lewis was not 'off the pace', and was quite clearly demoralised by the fact that he'd suffered an EF and a tapes exclusion. The experience he has gained this week will be invaluable to him for the upcoming World U21 Final, and next year's SWC (as well as many after that).

Best post ive read on here in a long long time .... Kennett And Bridger must have been destroyed after what happen to them .... imo once lyon went with young riders he should have stuck with in but then change tact 5 days later into his plan by bringing rico back dumping Kennett and then leaving Lewis and Danny out of there rides .

Or on the other hand its probably made them more determined to come back stronger next year and in Kennett's case sort his big track game out. No doubt if Bridger had been given the choice this time last week to either sit it out on Thursday night or ride and not score he would choose the former every time.

As for leaving Lewis and Danny out of rides, thats part and parcel of SWC speedway. Denmark and Sweden did the same thing, is that going to destroy their riders too

But Sweden and Denmark picked there best sides before they were hit by injured riders ...ive been told by everyone that we were not trying to win this year as we had no chance so the plan was to give the young riders the experience. So why replace anyone after just one meeting and why take riders out of there rides ?

Thou i think Rico and Scott should be in the side if lyon has got a vision he should stick with it..looks like you and him have changed tact in a week .

You contradict yourself here! No the other teams won't slow down but equally we won't get any quicker if we don't get the young riders in early to get some experience.

The reason Denmark and Sweden have good teams is that they DID blood their youngsters early instead of sticking with the old guys till they are well past it.

How many times over the last 6 or 7 years have we seen Floppy, Barker, Havelock, Screen, Smith, Hurry step in to replace injured riders at the last minute when we should have been giving the young guys a go. We have failed to win anything with the older guys and our team will get older and weaker if we don't "blood some youngsters" now!

Denmark shocked everyone about 7 years ago with a team that included Hans Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen and Charlie Gjedde who weren't even riding at heatleader level at that time, but they came through and surprised everyone and have continued to do so since then. They currently used Klindt when they could have gone for a couple of other more experienced riders and Sweden left out Karlsson / Max and used yonger guys too.

Australia "blooded" Holder last year and Leigh Adams is likely to retire in the next year or two along with Sullivan so Aus will have no choice but to bring in a couple more then. Its pretty certain that someone like Ward or Gathercole will be riding for them next year. Crump probably won't be around for more than another 3 or 4 years either and by that point Shields & Watt will be well into their 30's!

Everyone has been "blooding youngsters" except us which is why they all have good teams and we struggle!

What part of all that isn't blatantly obvious?

Great post Coma, absolutley right.

Grow up and get a life. How does not being there extend to throwing his toys. Never read such a load of tosh on here for a very long while. Are you privvy to the inner workings of the team? Did Lyon invite him? Where was Stead? Throwing his toys too? Was Olly Allen there? (Should have been in the team imo!) Ben Barker? But no, you want to Bash Scott.

But surely if you are named captain of a squad, you should be there to captain them whether riding or not?

Hans didnt ride last week but was still there.

Oh no worries then . team gb can take the WTC seriously in another few years when lewis bridger .ed kennet and tai woff have a bit more experience and better equipment ,until then we should just look at WTC as a sort of training scheme to bring the kids on , we can just make up the numbers until they look like they can cut the mustard , by then bomber ,rico . nicholls will be ready for retirement and we can blood some more kids for the future , so we will be ready for an all out assault on the WTC in around 2030

:approve::approve: ...

With scott in side we would have been in the final this year with a chance of a medal .... Mucking around with Riders who are never going to cut it at world level has already cost us already

As you say useing the wtc as a training school is a waste of time ....we should be doing somethink at grass roots level all this doing is costing us final places .

lol well I understand your frustration but..... basically yes  ...................... the alternative of a slow deterioration hasnt exactly been working has it?

If Team GB was a business.... in fact your business... what would you do? Would you continue with the same losses year in year out praying for something bordering on a miracle to stem the bleeding? Or would you formulate a new plan investing in the future and accept the same losses over a shorter period of time before hopefully seeing a return?

the less dramatic version for a few years time is that Bomber will be around for some years to come and we have a few other rays of light coming through behind these guys ............... Once we have a bonafide team like the Poles, Aussies, Danes it is up to the youngsters to force their way in

as posted before I dont understand the direction that people are venting their frustration...... it is clear as crystal for me that the blame lies at the policies of our league system...and the fans that accept it quietly....... not the latest fall guy national team manager..... and not the riders

I say it again, until you know exactly what happened and was said you do not know the reasons why Scott was not there. the point has been done to death now.

If I had been named as squad captain, I would have made a point to be there to show that I was committed to the cause, in the hope of a pick for a later round or in the future. Speedway rider, commentator he is about the same at both! Over rated
